Time for a new sight. I don't want to sound like i'm bashing, but I don't hunt whitetail from a treestand but one week a year for the past 6 years, but I am 3 for 5 when I have, and if I were you I'd get a better sight with 3 pins or a slider that allows you to move to the correct yardage rather than holding over. My guess is you weren't actually lining your peep up to the sight ring, evan a 1/16" misalignment would add up to several inches by 30 yards...

Just curious, he said the buck was 30 yards yet he said he put his 20 yard pin on his spine, with a single pin if he knew the yardage adjust your pin accordingly, most single pin set ups are easily adjusted buy thumbs up or thumbs down correct, with the tape that reads 10, 20, 30, yards and so on, everyone misses I know this, but using Kentucky windage for the rigs we shoot today is unheard of, am I right or wrong, course if his 20 yard pin shot that far over his back adjusting for 30 would have him shooting at airplanes.

So it's actually the isolated patch of oaks that are congregating the deer in that spot, not a terrain funnel? Would like to see what this spot looks like on topo map. It does not look like much of a funnel to me. Looks like fairly open woods and gentle slopes. Confused after listening to the podcast and watching this.

Don’t feel bad the other night I had two missed same sit. I rattled a buck and he pushed a large herd of does right under my stand. I missed a huge doe with a branch covering her vital. Stuck right in. The. The buck came down the hill and I had a surgical miss at 15 yards. For reasons unknown I put my 30 pin on his vitals and released. What was I thinking 🤔 I just can’t get it out of my mind

When you shoot from a tree stand with a riser, your arrow will rise some. Shooting at 30 yards with your 20 yard pin, you’ll need to hold it about where you would at 20 yards with the same pin. Most deer will always jump string and with the rise of the arrow, you’ll hit where you aim.

Jon - I didn't see your stance in the video but I used to shoot right over their backs all of the time. It was so frustrating I almost gave up. Then I had a friend who knows his crap tell me to start stop shooting by bending my arms but keep your arms straight all of the time and bend at the hips. You need to make that perfect triangle that stays constant from your hands, hips, and eye. Good luck bro!

My guess is that enough dummies shot other hunters during twilight that they changed the hours to make it safer. The hunting demographic has changed alot. There was a time when car loads of hunters from NYC drove out to the western part of the state and would shoot at anything that moved. Lack of hunter safety, etc.

@@flowlineproductions I'd be interested to see when they made the shooting light law. These days there are very few hunter on hunter shootings. Most people up here get hurt getting in and out of their tree stands. My uncle did find an Old Timer that was sitting dead against a tree, once. Had a Heart attack. Poor guy. I obey the shooting light law because I self film and who's gonna video themselves breaking the law. Not that I agree or disagree , but most hunters up here shoot as soon as they can see.

Anyway Im curious as to why hunters from states with no such law seem to be doing just fine with not shooting eachother.

What these morons don't realize is by criticizing others they simply reveal how little experience they really have. Anyone who says they haven't missed or lost deer is either a liar or a beginner. Every REAL hunter has experienced those tough times. Only childish keyboard warriors who spend most of their time playing video games fail to understand this. @@genehalteman882 that's why it's important to have an angle-compensated range-finder. I got one for $60, one of the best investments I've made.

Awesome content. Love the terrain. Very similar to some of these alabama mountains. It would be great to see more of Jon Lewis and this New York hunting.

Trying to stop deer with a blat isn't the best idea much of the time, but seems highly copied by other bow hunters these days. They see it on videos and mimic it because it always seems to work out. Not a good idea overall because you voluntarily put the deer on alert when it stops and you still might not get the shot. Other times it just bolts off. Shooting at a calm deer slowly walking within easy bow range isn't any harder. Even the Big Buck Serial Killer isn't too wild about this practice.

Ever since I started letting them stop on there own to get a shot I've not had one duck like you said it sends them off to alert mode

We all miss eventually. I'd love to hunt New York someday. Maybe Allegheny or the Catskills. Great production guys. Fun watching! I thought the camera guy was going to get caught on the fence, lol. I do all my hunting on the ground. I haven't hung a stand for 5 or 6 years now. Just love the eye to eye in your face action. Do you guys shoot alot at ground level?

Time for Jon to get a upgrade on his bow sight. I was suprised to see that single pin on that red white and blue bow! Keep hunting it will all come together eventually. Zach and the THP crew i enjoy watching you guys hunt and the advice you give. Keep it up!

You should not have your range finder hanging from your left shoulder right where your bow string travels. Hang it from your right shoulder. Could be why you missed?

When ur shooting from a stand aim low cause the deer will drop down like their dodging ur arrow so aim near bottom of their body

You shouldn’t have put your 20 yard pin on his back , you had plenty of time to adjust that sight.... just saying... think about how much the sight moves from 20 to 30 maybe a half inch or so? So readjusting and aiming multiple inches is going to equal over shooting every time or under shooting and that’s my two sense maybe next time you will get’r done
