I always said they were great at delivering the lines and they were true characters of their own selves, the producers/talent scouts were always on point when it came to art imitating life through true personas. By the way, delivering lines on set with timing and direction is an art in itself so it does take some tallant to pull it off. As for One trick pony, I agree, most of the actors were/are type cast and would/have found it difficult for any other tv/film work apart from theatre.
