- Watch Peter Jackson: Movies That Made Me in full on BBC iPlayer in the UK for more of Peter on Heavenly Creatures & Braindead, plus even more Lord of the Rings: bbc.in/2C58obR
Legendary Director Peter Jackson joins BBC Radio 1's Film Critic Ali Plumb to look back at his career highlights and greatest cameos, from Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit & King Kong to his latest movie, Mortal Engines. Plus, he reveals how Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg borrowed from him for their Cornetto Trilogy, and he reveals how he risked Ed Sheeran's life in a hundred year old WW1 plane.
I still watch TLOTR with absolute awe of how they pulled off the greatest story ever told.
For me, it was perfect and my favourite film of all time.
I agree
I really like Fellowship of the Ring still. The other two not so much.
Jackson butchered the books he's a talentless hack
@@callumbush1 Those Oscars says opposite
@@VeritasForYou don't be so naive the Oscars are self-congratulatory go read the books !
I couldn’t agree more, that whole Moria sequence was unbelievable
One of Gandalfs most beautiful quotes he said there where he couldnt remember the right way for a while, but all of it is just so good
My favorite movie director, a legend himself, hope to meet this man one day!
Absolutely
He should direct a star wars film
The first Fellowship Of The Rings movie is a classic, the two sequels are good not quite great.
Peter Jackson is a decent film director. But he's no Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, James Cameron, Ridley Scott 👌🏾
@@C--A i believe Peter Jackson is more talented then Ridley Scott
Talentless hack
Peter Jackson is funny af. Wish I could meet this guy. One of my heros.

Like the books? go fucking read them then lol no one's butchered them, they're all still there. quit deliberately exhibiting your stupidity all over the internet. pretty clear who the telentless hack is here
@@jackrndm To be fair, the one thing i accept is when people say they don´t like it because it wasn´t as colourful as the books. I think it´s a fair point to bring up.
@@DerAykac nothing wrong with proper constructive criticism or simply stating whether you enjoyed the movie or not. But to call a filmmaker a "talentless hack" just because the movie wasn't your cup of tea, is just self-righteous and ignorant
Peter is such a mastermind. Thank you Pete for the biggest and by far best trilogy ever made! It followed me through my childhood and it still is as an adult now!
Mee too!! I think I was like 7 when I saw the first film in the cinema!! I've been a fan ever since!!

@@callumbush1 Then go on, use your time to make a better one, instead of using your time to post under every comment that you don´t like the movies. Why do you even watch interviews with him? Are you into SM?
@@callumbush1 He is a great director. He had many improvised scenes that are so much better than in the book.

Lol, the books, to this day, are the worst read I've ever had. An absolute borefest. And the movies are pretty much worshiped collectively.
Edgar Wright is a genius

I'm french and i can understand most of people speaking english but damn, Peter Jackson is a very tough lad to understand haha
Because he's a Kiwi and this is how people speak in New Zealand
Ok I see haha I can understand 80% of what he's saying but he do not articulate in some sentences which makes it difficult to understand ! I guess it's the same thing here in France with our different accent !
@@JohnJacksonMiller As a native English speaker, I too have a hard time understanding him. His speech has about the intelligibility of someone talking in their sleep.
As a swede i understand every word

Genius film maker.
More like a talentless hack who butchered the books and all of his other films are garbage
that Balrog scene was amazing
Yes - one of the best monster entrances in movie history. The army of orcs scampering away in terror and then the sound of the demon echoing through the vast, cavernous silence.....
Ty for taking this interview
Ed is okay but Pete is the real deal of awesomeness
When did he start looking so old!? Now I feel old. Peter, you are a genius, sir.
I'm guessing it's because of stress from The Hobbit trilogy
Maybe just unhealthy lifestyle, bad diet. no exercises, no moisture and that's it
Matthew PanZ or it’s just general ageing
Well the one ring was destroyed so...
lord of the rings was 20 years ago
You know what. Even if Peters Filmmaking at some points falls flat. Even in the worst moments of the Hobbit you can always feel that he's a man with passion for what he's doing.
Makes me happy to know Jackson enjoys the Moria sequence, as that's one of my favorites.
3:50 that was such an anime like scene! I can't get over it. That's what it's like when a guy (or even girl) laughs shyly in an anime.
PETER JACKSON WHAT A DIRECTOR OF LORD OF RING FILM !!!
I wish Peter could at least pick small bits of Tolkien works and make them into movies now that there's so much.
Also I wish everyone long life and good health
He butchered the books he's a talentless hack
I always loved LOTR but only after watching the materials about making this trilogy I realize what he (and numerous crew) really did.
And then you delve even deeper to find out what really made it great. Quite interesting for Jackson to bash plagiarism while he literally copied the entire 1978 Ralph Bakshi's LOTR animation.
One of the best directors of all time!!❤️
Apart from the LOTR trilogy what other all time classic movie has Peter Jackson made......
Answer is none 👍🏾
Compared to multiple classic movies by Spielberg - Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schlinders List, ET, Indiana Jones first 3 films. Francis Ford Coppola - The Godfather, Godfather 2, Apocalypse Now. Stanley Kubrick - 2001 A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Paths Of Glory, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket. Ridley Scott - Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down. Martin Scorcese - Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino. Alfred Hitchcock - The Birds, Rear Window, Psycho, North By Northwest, Vertigo.
He's nothing but a talentless hack who butchered the books
Never let this man forget that jacinda ardern, prime menester of New Zealand, auditioned for LotR and Peter Jackson said no.
So?What's your point?
she's annoying as hell
So what? She wasn't right for the part then. I trust his judgement.
Not pretty enough for an elf
He's a talentless hack anyways proper butchered the books
If GOT season 8 is remade this man needs to write it
can't belive you didn;t bring up braindead! his best film
I love Peter Jackson.
1:06 how come the jumping guy is wearing a Gryffindor muffler?
Peter Jackson is a good film director in another legend in the film business directed a lot of good movies my favorite Pierre Jackson movie of all time is the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy.
One of the best number one best sellers from a great Arthur written by JRR Tolkien
He took us on a amazing journey about the story about Middle-earth threatened by Lord Sauron to destroy the world what's the wonder weapon the One Ring what rule them all.
Peter Jackson and his team did a incredible job filming and directing and telling it one of the best movies in history.
Moria is my favorite part as well
lotr trilogy is up there with star wars ot trilogy as the best trilogy ever made
Am I the only one that loves his Hobbit trilogy?
No. I am a Hobbit lover too
It was flawed but had some fab moments for sure
I also love it. The haters are so wrong
The haters of that trilogy are just a loud minority.
This man would describe meeting God and meeting his Postmates delivery driver with the same tone of voice
You Should have asked about TINTIN tho
I would give anything to see Peter Jackson take on and make movies based on the four book series by Jack Vance, 'The Planet of Adventure: Tschai. Jackson is the only one who could possibly capture the spirit of Vances' work.
More like butcher it like he did with Tolkien he's nothing but a talentless overrated hack
Wish he'd make Dragonriders of Pern
6:12 It is in the extended cut.
jeez that thumbnail photo is atleast 6 years old hahaaha
I always see "Mortal Engines" movie as a methaphore for historical empires - I mean theres always cities and states that absorb smaller cities and states, that the big fish eats the small fish :)
@BBC Radio 1: please ask Peter Jackson when the LordofRings/Hobbit Triology will be released in 4k Mastered - HomeMedia Release on UltraHD Blu-ray? I want it official confirmed. Thanks.
Hello, I'm from the future. It will release for you November 2020.
I see bae I click
The guy is an actual hobbit.
WHY HIS DONT CONTINUEEEE MIDLLE EARTH FILMSS???
I remember watching the LOTR Appendices that the LOTR Trilogy was a one time only because it's a big movie franchise to make so when The Hobbit came Guillermo del Toro, was originally chosen to direct but during the production of the film MGM's financial troubles in the mid-2000s. MGM didn't even officially give The Hobbit the green light that's why del Toro left the project and Peter has no choice but to take over the project. That's why he don't want to direct any Tolkien films because its such a huge franchise plus the fact that he have some health problems. He may produce or make a screenplay of it but not direct it.
Because he's a talentless hack who butchered the books
Honestly, I think Peter Jackson should do a film on Manfred Von Richthofen A.K.A. The Red Baron.
Hahahaha I think he would have broken more than a few bones :)
And I agree, Moria is the best part of perhaps all the movies
I don't understand how PJ who did LOTR and King Kong could do the Hobbit that felt so incomplete. For each of the Rings films it never felt so empty, I wish they could have done just 1 Hobbit film that felt put together like Return of the King, at some point on the first Hobbit film it just felt like even the casting was off compared to Ian Kellen as Gandalf, Aragorn etc.
I blame the studio and cgi...
I think it was Warner Bros.'s fault. There was a huge rush and a last minute decision for Peter to take over...I think the stride of the film's would have been utterly different if this was not the case, the love triangle would for sure not have happened, which was Warner's idea!
@@CziffraTheThird Where did you read that about the love triangle and Warner Bros? I'd be interested to read more about it.
Merry Chase It was Warner Bros’ fault. They only gave Jackson a few months to plan and make the Hobbit trilogy. For the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Jackson had 6 years. The studio forced Jackson to direct the Hobbit trilogy after Guillermo Del Toro left and forced Jackson to make 3 movies instead of the 2 planned.
I think the Hobbit was originally conceived as a studio cash grab, capitalising on the success of lotr. I believe that it's only thanks to PJ and co that it didn't become an abomination and stain on the memory of the greatest movie trilogy ever.
there are many good things about the lotr and hobbit movies...but there are also some realy realy bad things, things that as a lover of Tolkien for over 30 years is hard to swallow. It would be nice if someone asked some hard questions to Peter Jaksson about some of his descitions.
It’s all fake grow up.

Your movies were great i still think he made a huge huge mistake by not giving a role to David Bowie he had an appearance that would go so well in those movies or Harry Potter movies for example, after i found out that he rejected him i thought Bowie was born to play in the Lord of the rings
