This is a real work horse. It's a sweet sound to hear. Whished we could go back in time at least to the 60's. We need a do over. But, that just ain't gonna happen now is it.
237 with a mud stick 6 spd drove many Mack R models DM models very tough and extremely dependable these old Mack’s will run circles around the new crap built today
I still have a very early R600 5 speed 237 Hp maxidyne motor great to drive rough to ride in emtpy not bad loaded however the trailers have become to big for the truck and its not fast enough anymore must have been a great city truck with just 5 speeds has been here since 83 still gets used but is in need of replacing its known for a long way round and its still working
drove an r model 5 speed hauling chicken feed . reverse gear felt like it would run 50 mph . jumped and shook so bad trying to back around farms , i was afraid the windshield would fall out . got to be the toughest trucks ever made .
Yee like to see more vids my old man grew up driving Macks we are from Pennsylvania Lehigh valley etc... I was born there 😁. I did excavation as well there!
R models with 6 speed maxidyne were Bullet proof. They were a good money maker
Not comfy but probably one of the most economical and toughest trucks ever built.
E6 and E7 break the bank on fuel costs now but reliable, tough, and built to last. I love the perVolvo Mack’s
I agree, I'm 6' 4" tall and my knees hit the dash in R models. I'm bummed because I just don't fit lol.
@@ronyoung6054I feel like all Mack cabs were designed for shorter people
One knee against the window crank and the other against the heater box 😂
The sound of a Mackis one of the sweetest sounds a engine can make
First Mack I ever drove was a B61, then a U Model then many R Models. From 2x5, 5x4 and 6 speed.
Yeah we have those around the bogs still for site work this mack has 2 transmissions like the 2 sticks but the 5 direct, 5 low, and 5 reverse is air
Single stack Mack with a window in the back and a barking pipe 👍

Ol man’s a hoss on the pavement
Best part about driving a old r model is when you get out and go home hahahahahahha
Sorry being late to comment but give Mack respect to take a 5 speed 237or 285 and have enough balls to run highway speeds
I pulled 100t + for years with a 6 speed 237 in the 70s it never missed a beat.
