This may be the best real life video on how to R&R the 270B. Like you mention, the step to reconnect the power beyond to operate the rock shaft is NOT listed in the directions. Brought my 2038R home today and it was after business hours when I tried to dismount the backhoe and had the same problem couldn’t figure out how to get the rock shaft to work found this video and no more problems...... thank you.

Thanks for the informative video! I have had my 2038R since they came out in 2017, but just this year ordered the backhoe for it. It is scheduled to come in by the end of August and your video will help guide me when I go to remove an attach it. Like all JD attachments (Mower - Loader, etc.), a key word I have learned to make your life easier is LEVEL GROUND when taking off your attachment!! And of course take your time and things go better with practice!
@@drizler I have had my Backhoe for about a year now and have experienced every possible, frustrating thing that can happen trying to remove and attach the backhoe (mainly attaching). I have found that the best thing that works for me is common sense, read the instructions each time (so you don't forget any steps) and TAKE YOUR TIME! Knowing what is happening and what you need to do to make it happen is half the journey. And don't get upset if you may have to "re-connect" the power beyond to use the backhoe to "help" you get the equipment positioned where you want it. (Especially PINNING and un-PINNING it) I also put a piece of 3/4" plywood under the backhoe frame, under the bucket and under the legs to help keep it more level and not sink into the ground. BTW: The dealership where I bought the backhoe is useless!!! Even they can't show, or tell you how to do it easily!
@@rogeramadon4064 it can go easily,or. More likely brutal if alone. Just getting straight with mine ( which has a whole different hookup) will be horrid if alone. I usually wait to put it on until some is here so I can get guided in nice and straight. If you have a concrete pad so much the better. The dealer told me many of his buyers build a Rick or support it at rest which keeps it at installation height. Looking on the internet I see they make storage ricks that have wheels, Those are the cats rump as you can dump it anyplace then hand snuggle it into the tightest corner out of the way. They are literally half the width with the stabilizers up😃. I’d definitely have or fab up one of those if😣 I had concrete which I don’t.. just like Pa Kettle used to say in those old movies. “ One of these days…………” The big issue with any of these is to shut the thing off and kill the pressure before hooking or unhooking any remotes. I had one got knocked ajar on me once and tried to push it on. Darned thing ruined my leather glove and pumped the tip of my middle finger with hydraulic oil. 6 years on that hard callous is starting to go away. I won’t forget that again🤕
@@drizler I hear what you're saying about a concrete floor and a way to store the unit, but few of us have that luxury and I am usually alone, so I also have to hook up and take off all my attachments by myself! So far, dropping the main frame onto a 3/4" piece of plywood has helped some and I know if you don't release the pressure in the hydraulic lines, you will NEVER get them disconnected!
I have the 270b and 2032r love the storage. If set down and pinned properly you dont have to worry about the hydraulics bleeding off. Good video. I also connect the two backhoe lines to each other to keep moisture and dirt out and pin the outriggers in straight out position so it cant tip over. Also the rockshaft arms need to be level or it will not connect properly. All in all it is a great set up, and you did a good demo.

I’m considering purchasing this tractor and backhoe, but still thinking about possibly stepping up to the 3r. Would love to see some digging videos if you get a chance. I have really rocky ground and just don’t know if it will be enough power for my needs.
Josh Petker - I'm hoping to start a large digging project here pretty soon. I'll definetly post a video once I can get to it. So far, I haven't had much troubles with it. It does have it's limits though. I'll try and cover that when I make my next video on this backhoe.
I got my 2038r in August and first job was digging out an 18” spruce stump. Ground was darn near bedrock but had success. We have over 600 more stumps to remove on our property and it hasn’t failed me yet.
Do your rock arms have to be in the down position for the backhoe to function? I am asking this because I took delivery of mine about 2 weeks ago and backhoe stopped working because rock arm position lever had gotten bumped up about 1/2 inch.
Yes, once you hook up the 3 point atms to the backhoe, and unhook the power beyond line. They should stay in the same position, even if you move the lever when the power beyond is hooked to the backhoe.
I'd also like to see a video on the backhoe in action and please explain the linitations your wrote about. I'm 90% sure I'll purchase a 2038 by March after the tractor show.

I have a 1026 and all I used in front were the loader and the forks, only item I would like to get maybe is a grapple. But yes it seems a nice tractor and a nice upgrade for me
Just ordered my 2038R FLB, going to get the svc I saw in your video. I'm going to try and use it to control my box blade. I know I can put one cylinder to lean it forward and back not sure about side to side yet with second cylinder. Just wondering if you have any experience with any other rear attachments that work your tractor svc's? Thanks for the video also.
I think you'll really enjoy your new 2R series. You'll have 2 remotes with the rear kit. Sounds like you should be covered if all your box blade needs is 2 hook ups?
So heres my take on that. A backhoe is an expensive piece of equipment that you paid for. If you're going to store it outside, I'd highly recommend greasing every fitting 1st and you'll definitely want some sort of cover to keep the weather off of it. I do store mine inside with the outriggers in the upright position. Haven't had any problems with this.
To the right of the yellow PTO switch, is the continuous hydraulic flow switch for running something like a log splitter or other attachments. To the bottom left of the PTO switch is cruise control. The switch to the bottom right is a lock out for the front hydraulic arms. Hope this helps.
How do you store the backhoe, lets say for a couple months? I stored mine on my paved driveway, and after a few weeks, the hydraulics bled down making it more difficult to attach.
Bill Thorwart - I have the same problem myself. Even with the backhoe detached, and on a level surface the bucket still curls. So I try to compensate by tilting the bucket up slightly before detaching.
I have another question for you. I’ve been having a little bit of a problem finding hydraulic center link for my 2038r. Have you experienced this? Dealership is looking for one now.
dangit...I should not have watched this. I own a 2520 with backhoe. It is a royal pain to install. I noticed a whole bunch of upgrades on the tractor too. This video is gonna cost me.... Does anyone reading this owe me any money? lol

Taking it off is still easy with any of them. When you came back to put it on again you will soon begin to HATE LIFE. That I promise you😵💫

Did you get those tires from a dealer? They don't look like the normal r4's for the 2038r.
They were dealer installed. Seem to work just fine
The little slot under the Power beyond is where you store the the hydraulic line. No need for a zip tie

OK i wondered if I needed to crib the backhoe to take the weight off the bucket prior to storing. I'll try and let ya know

Might look online at Agri Supply. The top link cylinder is sold separate from the hoses and fittings you'll need. But I've had good luck through them.

Way way different than the 46 BH on the 2520!
