Taku, so fun to see you using the mushroom knife I made you at 7:46, I hope it serves you well! Great video you guys made as always - like you said, who doesn't like pizza!
Here is a pretty cool tip for when you harvest Clams. Put your clams in a bucket and cover them with saltwater. Sprinkle about half a cup of cornmeal onto of the clams. They take the cornmeal in and expel the sand in their gut. The are much less gritty. Love your videos please keep up the great work.
I normally let them sit in the fridge over night with some salt water or just use and wash the foot and connective tissue. Cornmeal addition is a southern thing, a great southern thing:)
I made a similar one. It worked so well we immediately improved it with a real pizza stone for a cooking surface and changed the design by using more bricks to make a bigger fire and cooking chamber. Works great.
Not sure if you'll see this since it's months after, but did you replace that middle paver with a pizza stone all together? I have a pizza stone and have been thinking of making one of these ovens.
@@MandeeLiberty hi! Sorry I didn’t see this until now. I should turn on notifications. I replaced the middle paver with an 18x18 pizza stone and I changed the design so that I could use the whole cooking surface. Works amazing

Thank you for the amazing content and knowing that the "bucket of fire" moment was gold and should be shared. That's one of those "real" moments that's relatable and entertaining enough to be shared.
A tip for mushroom foraging, look for the corresponding flora. Each mushroom species grow around the systems of specific trees and usually along a drip line, directly on roots, or on decay. So you can really focus on specific spaces in the forest. Once you know the seasons, temps, and are aware of the moisture of an area, you can really just spot a perfect place and time for specific mushrooms. :)
I really appreciate what you do. The foraging for the wild mushrooms reminds me of what my dad and his brothers used to do with foraging for wild mushrooms on my dad's farm in Alberta. Another uncle of mine was good at foraging for wild mushrooms too. Wild mushrooms have a great flavour to them. You give great tips on foraging for them. In the future, I'd like to see what you can create with other wild edibles, including berries, other greens, and trying them with fish. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers! ✌️#TakuTuesday
I have a lot of wild mushrooms on my AB farm but other than puffball, we haven't tried any, just in case! We have a lot of amanita which aren't good to eat and several types of tree mushrooms, but just aren't brave enough to try them.
Knife is Life-Really appreciate your enthusiasm in your content. Having been a lifetime diver and fisherman, I appreciate the work you do to expose people to the bounty of the sea. Just learning how to do sushi myself after eating it for over 40 years so your tips are most helpful. Thanks for that!
The red bricks will crack at some point. You should have used fire bricks. They line fireplaces and such with them. They are designed to handle the heat without breaking.
Living the life! Love the mushroom foraging videos and Jocelyn's excitement in finding the mother load of trumpets and clams! This vid made me smile the whole time.

Best to get your wood fire going ahead of time enough that the wood had burned down to "coals". It might take a few logs to get there but once you have enough coals going, there isn't so much unburned gases (smoke) and flames reaching into the oven part where the pizza is. You also get a hotter oven with coals so you won't need as much to cook once you have a nice bed of them radiating the heat. There are other types of bricks or slate that will stand the heat better too but we'll presume this is an early budget plan for an oven. Great idea and review !
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I just want to say I love and look forward to every single one. I've seen your videos improve so much and it makes me so happy! Thank you for making this content!
I recommend leave gaps on bottom walls , especially the rear one, it feeds the fire more oxygen . Your fire would start much faster. Your fire appears chocking , thriving for oxygen in the back .
Next time you’re out there, I’d love to see just how similar the deadly mushrooms are to the edible ones! Maybe show a bunch of diff poisonous ones indigenous to the area too if u find some! Awesome video, love u guys ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love watching your videos. learn so much about cooking and because of this video my wife and I are going to build our own pizza oven and have pizza nights with our friends and family! Thanks Taku and Jocelyn!
The stone broke because of the moister inside the brick. The best way to avoid this is to pre-heat your new stove with a small fire first and allow the moister to be released from the bricks slowly, then make your fire larger afterward. p.s. There is no need to pre-heat your tomato sauce, it will cook on the pizza and your dough will be hard. Good luck! ;-)
My family and I enjoy your channel very much. If your going to use that style oven again make a bigger opening in the back and build the fire up slowly with smaller pieces of wood so the bricks last longer. And use something to dampen the fire. Awesome find on the black TRUMPets. Ive never had success finding them. We always look forward to your next upload. Thank you both.
Your best bet is get a slab of granite for long term use. Or a piece of steel for the cook top. Concrete pavers dont last long or natural stone that can absorb moisture
Thanks again for another great day foraging, and the pizza oven turned out GREAT!! I'm looking forward to what you make with it next. Maybe Miner's lettuce saag paneer with homemade naan or roti?
If you put a little cornmeal along with the flour between the pizza and the peel, it will help the pizza slide better. Love the content Taku, keep up the inspiration.
You don’t rip out the mushrooms. Cut them off clean with a knife and they’ll grow back. Something my grandpa taught me when we used to go find mushrooms in the austrian alps.
It doesn't actually work like that, the mushroom is just the "fruit" of the mycelium. Picking a mushroom is like picking an apple, the growing structing is un affected

oh wow that turned out soo nice, i was not expecting the bottom to get cooked so well
I wonder if this would be better with a white sauce instead of a red sauce. I think it would pair better with the clams and mushroom.
depends on where your from i guess, most restaurants use cream sauce because they can charge more for fat and sodium lel
Idk i feel like id miss the tang of the tomato
I would go the flat bread route with seafood, just some garlic and olive oil and top with cheese and toppings.
