Thanks for the shoutout bro! Heads up to anyone looking for candy caps, these can be pretty tricky for beginners to identify and I have seen more candy cap look-alike mushrooms this season than any season that I can remember. They are a real treat to find, but please be 100% positive on your identification. Remember: when in doubt, throw it out! Taku and Jocelyn, I hope we get to meet up and forage again soon! Miso definitely wants to meet Roscoe!
I think you should do a video on your mom ( if she's comfortable with it ), making the aprons and knife bags, so that people can see the time that goes into making them and the quality of her craftsmanship. You could add that to every video you post.
@Danekim_ must be white. There's nothing nosy about wanting to see and appreciate the detail that any other culture puts into their craft work. Thats exactly the same as them showing us how the pottery was made, etc, when they go to central America. People LIKE that. It makes them buy more lol. After all, Taku *IS* using these as merch for us.
My wife says the look on my face when you were talking about making custom sized aprons and realizing you were talking about me was the best ever!!! She didn’t share details so I can’t wait to be surprised.
Congrats yall, Roscoe is beautiful and a great dog already! Don’t forget to focus on discipline and training as he grows up. Experience is key for him, crawl, walk, run. They’re highly intelligent breeds and great family dogs.
That's awesome news! Had my dog for 3 years now and we have like a psychic intuitive bond now. So happy for you guys with the property and the cookbook and Roscoe and everything. Awesome stuff!
Taku, congrats on deciding to adopt Rosco. He looks like a cool dog. Also the "falcon" Joslin saw with the owl was actually a Red Shoulder Hawk. One of the most showy small hawks usually seen near water courses. They are one of my favorites though I have never gotten to work with them.
Love that you guys rescued Roscoe, he definitely chose you and showed loyalty by helping you dig, what a beautiful story! This was dope to see the mushroom inoculation as well. I've never seen that before, what a cool project!
I love your vids....have watched many over the last couple years. Note about the tangled birds, if no one else has written this already: Owls are the predator of hawks, not vice versa. So Rosco saved a hawk!
I found a honey whole of Lyons mane and Morel mushrooms on my buddies property. He won't eat mushrooms, so he said I could take whatever I find. Last spring I took about five pounds of Morels. We also got about twenty puff balls out of my backyard. I recently bought ten of the Back To The Roots Organic Mushroom Farm kits. You grow them out of a box. Each box you get two grows from them. Great video, and congratulations on becoming a new pet parent.
For truffle/mushroom training with rosco you can use a little plastic container like in a kinder surprise egg, with some holes and whatever mushroom you train for. Just let him sniff it and hide it or bury slightly and try to use your best reward, like cheese or whatever he likes most. He looks like he loves to work!
It's just hard having a famous pet or a pet online because everyone will always find something that you're doing wrong and complain about the stupidest things....
I'm not sure what other people are hating on, but i would personally never operate a chainsaw or fell a tree without having my dog leashed up a safe distance away, or just inside the house
We knew you’d keep Roscoe! In the future, when you inoculate logs, it’s best to leave them a few weeks after cutting them. When they are freshly cut, the tree can still battle the mycelium. I’m sure you’ll be fine since oysters and lions mane are pretty aggressive. Love to see all the mushroom stuff!
I used to use a wax rolled strip that is used for covers for test tubes. I used it for covering horticultural grafts by stretching around the branch. It naturally sticks to itself. When in a pinch, it might work for covering multiple tree holes with mushroom spawn. No heat to melt the wax is needed. 🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🎉
I live in Northern California and our dog likes to run around outside too, I’d suggest looking in to getting a collar with a beeper for Rosco.. dogs love to chase deer, squirrels and, other sorts of things. Sometimes our dog bolts off and she will not respond to verbal commands. We’ve recently had bears and mountain lion sightings in the area we live in.. just something to keep in mind. Thanks for the awesome content!
Great job Roscoe, saved an owl from being lunch, found some mushrooms, Dug valiantly after a gopher (mabey). What a very good boy. It seems like he’s taking to your training, I believe that you can get him to chill around specific loud noises.👍. I never thought about making pancakes with candy caps. That sounds absolutely delicious.
So thankful for finding this channel, you two seem like good people. Since I‘m sadly not connected to the outdoors at all, your videos give me a little bit of peace at least …
HAHAHA (im sorry I don't know how to spell your name but i'll just use how I know to spell it) Jocelyn, you trying to record the funny noises of Roscoe was absolutely hilarious and made me cackle, Roscoe is such a good boy, him yelling "TIMBER" with you was priceless. He's a great addition to the crew!
I think Roscoe is less bothered by the chainsaw but the prospect of falling that tree! That being said, awesome thought to make him a mushroom hunting companion!
Magnificent animal. Much anticipation of blooming. Way way way back nearly fifteen years I had running water, and electric and gas but I recall then that the lawn sprinklers made incredible blooms.🤔
I really enjoyed this. Hope that you have good success with the mushroom cultivation. Foraging for wild mushrooms is a good thing to know. My dad and his brothers were good at foraging for wild mushrooms on his farm in Alberta, Canada. I had another uncle who was also good at foraging for wild mushrooms. Your property is very nice. Cheers, Taku and Jocelyn! ✌️#TakuTuesday
Cool video i used to grow mushrooms of the magic variety lol and when i got a couple flushes off of them i could dump it out in a shadey corner in my backyard and get another flush or two usually off them. The mold would take over inside but outside the mycellium could fight it and win.
yeah you can definetly train him to sniff mushrooms. just watched a hunting dog find shot quail in deep thick grass in mexico. ive never done it but i figure you get those mushrooms first off and then hide it somewhere in the house but close by then give him a treat then hide it farther and farther away until eventually he picks up on it
I've been watching you for years. I'm so glad to see you have a dog now. He looks like a shepherd cross With a Doby. Known to be Really great tracking dogs.
Can you do a video with your mom showing how she makes all your gear? I would love to see the behind the scenes into how that collab between the two of you works from idea to execution to the iterations you have done over the years.
Ao glad you adopted rosko..... Figured it would happenn but he seems like such a good boy.... dogs are the best, one thats as faithfull as that one you won't be dissapointed
I watched s3 of Clarksons Farm where he farmed Lions Mane mushrooms and it only took like a month. But that was in a bunker with humidifiers and temperature control. He ended up with way too much mushrooms in the end. I’m excited to see how your mushroom farm turns out
You might train Roscoe to be a "shroom dog" - very useful. I watched more of the video, you're on your way. I like how you tell Roscoe what you are doing. Dogs understand. I think it reduces any anxiety.
Gotta wait two weeks after felling tree to inoculate because the tree has anti fungal properties. In Japan they throw the logs in a pond for a few days with a log that has already flushed previously ( obviously inoculated).
id imagine not all trees are adapted to all mycelium otherwise they would never propagate right? Im a total noob so im just thinking out loud to you lol
@@tecreates2384dead standing trees may already have mycelium decomposing so it is best to use fresh cut and control any other contaminants. Keeping the log off the forest floor is one way to decrease the likelihood of that happening. 😊
@ oak trees have the anti fungal properties or they would never survive. Mushroom fossils outdate plant fossils so the trees had to adapt. Btw, mushrooms are considered a zoological mechanism, neither plant nor animal. Trippy, right?
Actually, youre supposed to innoculate within two weeks for best results. The longer you let cut wood sit, the higher likelihood of contaminants and unwanted fungi, which with a log is still unlikely tbh. Fresher is way better. But I'd do in the spring after all the sap (anti-freeze) is out of the wood and back mostly into the ground. Granted, yes, theres a few trees that do have true anti fungal properties, but to act like every single tree in the world is antifungal...Im sorry that's just entirely incorrect and such a broad generalization
i think you can also buy pre-inoculated spore pegs, which should be easier to use than ur current method - they sell all sorts of spore pegs ive seen some chicken of the woods even
Owls are raptors and will also try to kill other birds depending on the territory. Roscoe is such a good dog! Those mushrooms look and sound so great I wish I could find them myself.
You should make a video of your mom or if she doesn't want to be on camera you can talk over but would be interesting to see the process of creating the aprons and knife bags.

Stop being nosey bro
@@Danekim_that’s not being nosey that’s a great idea fym
Love the idea
I was just going to say the same thing about making videos of mom’s craft work

Roscoe is such a good boy! What a great doggy! Best foster fail ever! :)
im so very happy you kept the dog! what great news!!!! thank you for doing that! dogs are the best!
Congrats to you both for choosing to give Roscoe a loving home! 🌺
Thank you two for giving Roscoe a forever home! Your love for him will be returned many times over!
i do have to say your new videos on your property and the homestead aspect really leveled up your channel. keep up the good work.

Hearing the rain and frogs in the background really sets the mood. It reminds me of when I lived next to a tanbo. I envy the life you've built Taku.
Owls actively hunt hawks and falcons... Usually right out of their nests at night
Yeah!!!!🎉🎉🎉
We adopted Rosco.
I had a dog "Rosco PICO Colltrain Dash"
So happy
Always only adopt strays.
Roscoe fits in perfectly! I once had a Doberman. They are extremely intelligent, loyal, goofy, and will make a perfect adventure buddy. Go Roscoe!!

As a dog lover, your love for Roscoe inspired me. Roscoe is a very fortunate dog. So happy for you and hope to see Roscoe more in your video ❤
