Your information has been very helpful. Over 30 years of gardening (zone 6b),but this was the first year I planted a fall garden. I just harvested the last of my arugula and spinach in December! I also had success with lettuce, beets, carrots and bunching onions. So exciting!
Well, here is it! The last of my Monthly Planting guides! This time I talk about what you can plant in December! I hope you have enjoyed this series and that you learned a little!! Happy Gardening!
Thanks so much for doing the monthly planting guide. It was very very useful to my planning. Thanks for all the time, energy and research you put into it. Shall be watching all of them again this coming year!
So, I just planted some seedlings in a Dixie cup w/ some cling wrap. I put them on a heating mat (last year I used a heating pad). I have a mini plastic greenhouse w/ some grow lights that I put inside of it. Last year I did actually pretty good even without the greenhouse and grow lights. As for the seeds, I’ve actually used seeds from organic veggies that I found at Sprouts. Where there is a will, there is a way. Lol
Zone 9b here, there’s so much to do still even in December. And all the seeds that need to be start for January planting. Omg 😱 I’m all over the place. Trying to get my new property ready. Thanks
Thank you so much for all your hard work! I used to garden decades ago with my mother, (green thumb extraordinaire). I started back into it this past year, but have very alkaline soil with hot dry winds in the summer. So I have to start all over again and learn new skills to be able to grow in southern Utah. Again, just want to thank you so much for all your valuable advice ❣️🌱
We learned last year to grow indoors. Check out the Barrina grow lights on Amazon. They are great. We set up a metal 48" shelf and use this to start plants as well as all of our lettuce year round. We grow them in plastic under the bed sized totes and floating rafts. It's been fun and a great education for us this past year.
We are in the middle of a similar experiment this year. We just got a great light and we are trying out hand at some micro greens, herbs and some lettuce plants indoors.
these are exactly the things i've planted - zone 8. i started onions, chives, green onions, rudbeckia flowers, calendula, cilantro and others already - they've all germinated too outside in the cold. planning to do some roots and greens this weekend. maybe some fava beans and peas too.
I'm often really jealous of those of you that live in warmer climates. But then I remember all the bugs you have to deal with and I feel a bit better!! 😅😅😅
@@StoneyAcresGardening i'm in southern cali. i don't think i could deal with anything more than a zone 8 and be relatively happy, even though i've lived in the ne. i don't know if i get anymore bugs than others. no bugs right now. but they had me depressed over the summer. the garden can be a war zone.
Thank you so much for the efford on these videos!!! I loved them and will use them every year as a guide!!! I have a terrible infestation of Aphids that started in the summer and its continuing to eat my seedlings... do you have any advice for something natural, non toxic? Thanks!
Aphids are a pain!! To controll them you can use a homemade insecticidal soap. Apply every 5 days, you can look up recipes online. I don't have a video on that yet but I do have one coming soon. I have it filmed but need to edit.
Parsnips yes! I should add them to the list. I'm not a huge fan of direct sowing of cabbage family crops, I prefer transplants but my opinion is shaded by my zone 6 garden. Have you had success direct sowing? I'd love to hear your results.
@@StoneyAcresGardening this will be my first time growing broccoli and cauliflower. if i don't direct sew, i will start them in starter pots and put them outside under plastic sheeting. i don't like starting inside because i want them to be acclimated. i've lost plants i've tried to harden off. thx.
Thank you SO much for these month by month what to plant videos. Just as an aside,t it would be more helpful if instead of using the words "you can plant," if you'd distinguish the direct sow or plant out (from starts). It was confusing at some points whether you were talking about direct sowing the seeds or planting the starts Other than that, excellent videos and thank you!!
Not really much planting you can do in Zone 7 in December. The only exception would be if you have a cold frame or hoop house with some empty space, you could plant there. But it is so cold and the light is so low, that any plantings in December in Zone 7 or below really won't do anything until spring, so you really should just hold off until mid February.
I am in Zone 7b in Pine, AZ and have a heated greenhouse. Our sunlight hours are just shy of 10 daily. Am growing spinach, carrots, celery, broccoli, radishes, peas, green onions as well as lettuce. I also have a dwarf Meyer lemon and a dwarf Clementine Mandarine tree, plus 2 blueberry bushes. The latter are dormant. My Ozark Beauty strawberries in a mini greenhouse are still producing but starting to show signs of dormancy. Remember that we get more sunlight here in the southwest than the northern states. I admit the cukes aren’t doing well, even with grow lights...but my green beans(bush variety) are thriving. Was leery about the dwarfs but the UofA Cooperative Extension indicates they will do well but only in a greenhouse. I also have a cold frame receiving no sun and the kale, parsley and lettuce are growing good.
I am in zone 9 California! One thing I am planting this month is Cover Crops - this is the perfect time for cover crops since we are about to start our annual rainy season, and cover crops grow great if started now! Lots of legumes cover crops have been pla ted. Am planting garlic, shallots and leeks too!
Don't fear these times we are in, for there is hope. The hope is in Christ Jesus, And I encourage people to draw close to the Lord and Savior in these uncertain times. And for the non beleivers to have an open mind About having a relationship with their creator. For God made you special and he loves you very much. 😊
Really appreciate that you put the zones in there so I can skip to it, I only had a min before leaving to work and that helped a lot
Glad it helped!

That's a great idea! But remember that just because it is organic, doesn't mean it was an heirloom. So you may not get the same veggie.
Tks for sharing this with us and looking forward to more uploads & the workshop
Thanks for watching!

Eat your turnip greens. They are great with a ham hock and corn bread. A little hot sauce goes right along with it.
Thanks for the tip!
This tot me a lot
Lots of indoor growing going on here in Zone 3 Saskatchewan Canada! 👍
That is awesome! What do you grow inside? and what kinds of lights?
