George it looks awesome with the soft top, the way they are meant to look 😊replace the plastic window & get rid of the hard top. When you operate the roof, your doors should be closed, when it finishes going up the windows will return to closed if they were closed, im pretty sure it also works the same when you put it down, you know it finished when the windows rise back to close. Get it right mechanically, maybe get a dent removal person to remove the dent and give her a good detail. Clean all the drain holes. Loving the Porsche.
Great vid, George! Cool project. I agree with the others, keep the roof. Get it resprayed. I reckon just fix the oil leak (new tensioner, or washer?) and take it on track! Enjoy it for a while, fix a few things as you go and make it available to buy whilst doing so.
If it is a 5-chain car, which the early 2.7's are the variocam pads are probably worn out, which means cam covers of, also spark plug tubes (they leak after 25 years), didn't do it myself yet but it is do-able with engine in the car.
Love your initial enthusiastic optimism there,.. we’ve all been there just to see money grow wings 😂💸💸💸. BTW it’s not a “oil cooler”. It’s actually an “oil and water heat exchanger” for better emissions.
I had the same issue with the timing chain tensioner on my old 430d. The spring and parts came out unattached. As i drove the car for a while like that the chain was already stretched so i had to get timing chain replaced. Although when i changed the tensioner the noise disappeared for a couple of weeks. Bmw upgraded the timing chain tensioner in 2016 but unfortunately i had an older car
You can replace the rear window, I’m sure this was shown on Wheeler Dealers…they took the old out and stitched a new one in for very little money. BTW sell the hardtop, you don’t buy a convertible to drive around with the hardtop on! Anyone who wants a hardtop will buy a cayman…and you can still use it in the winter, I’ve even driven mine in the snow!!
Unless you're good at sewing, it will probably be easier to replace the entire top assembly -- it's only two bolts on each side if I recall. Have you looked at part-out listings to see if any are available near you?
Looking forward to the deep clean George, I bet she comes up like new.. A bit of advice about the Garage foundations, if you dont get some concrete in the ground they will collapes and fill themselfs in, mother nature and all that, I've done Groundworks all my life.. Cheers 🍻
The ground is pretty solid so it shouldn’t collapse too much. I’ve gotta save up for the Concrete or sell a couple cars to pay for it so it may be a while
@@andrewschannel3635 Not true, if they are looked after and have a glass window then they are very hard wearing neither boxster I've had has ever leaked
One of the most expensive things you can buy is a cheap Porsche! I wish you the best of luck with your Boxster but I think your budget of £1000.00 is extremely optimistic, even if you sold the hardtop and spare wheels and got another £1000.00 to add to it you would still be tight. Second hand roof is circa £300.00, pair of springs £150.00, service kit £200.00 that’s before you tackle the oil leak and timing chain rattle. You must lock the engine before you touch the chain tensioner. When all said and done the car retail is at best £5500.00 done. As I said before good luck with it.
Timing chain alloy seal only pennies but labour locking engine to stop timing slip pricey I worked 30yrs in Porsche parts very common also rmos leak ,there's 3 tensioner on it best do all at same time
replace the rear window, sell the spare wheels and hard top - more funds for you. With the tensioner, there is a trick where longer reach tensioners are used to "tighten up" any slack - it is a road to ruin as the TC can let go without warning - worth checking out
If it's anything like the BMW Z3, the hard tops are rare and sell 2nd hand for approx. £1,000. Assuming Porsche used similar colours to BMWs of the same vintage, the body looks more like BMW Arctic Silver and the hard BMW Titanium Silver.
I don’t think it is.. Generally 5-10% of subscribers watching videos is considered normal. Bare in mind a lot of my subscribers have subscribed for a specific car I have done in the past so other cars don’t interest them👍🏻
George show or include somehow your girlfriend or wife in your video. Thats the trick for more views, and she helped you to lift off the hard top isnt she ? Why cutting her out 😊

I have followed George since his mini Cooper project because i own a Citroen DS5 with the same prince engine.❤

I like the hard top especially through winter😎👌🏽
Personally I wouldn’t drive one of these in Winter.. I’d keep an old diesel estate for that👌🏻

Painting the roof would take up probably half of the budget for fixing her up unfortunately

The window module is under passengers seat I believe. Check for wet carpets in that area

Looks much better with the soft top up. Sell the hardtop and the extra wheels to boost the £1000 you have left to make it really nice

But dont forget, if the hardtop would match the car's colour, people would probably pay extra for that.

That softtop looks nice
I agree!
Certainly looks better with the soft top not sure on those parking sensors though 😂😂😂👍
Oil leak might be the RMS seal (edit- or maybe not!)
I’ve never known a RMS to leak that much oil before - they usually just drip slowly over time🤞🏻
With a roof fix, suspension, oil leak fix, bumper fix, dent repair and a full service you’ve probably used up your 1k or maybe more.
I don't think it's really worth doing any paint to it.. It's not going to add more value than it will cost to do
Keep the hard to with the car, maybe even paint it black, let the new owner decide, better for winter use anyway.
I don’t think it’s really practical on these cars - the roof should be down whenever the weather permits👌🏻
I agree, but for winter it is ideal, so should stay with the car , its a bonus you are taking away, it also protects the car roof in winter
Where abouts in the UK are you? You’ve just made me buy a Boxster myself, also 250 miles away lol

Rattle on start up is nearly always the ims bearing failing. See the wheeler dealers episode where they upgraded it to the new IMS bearing kit
