In drag racing folklore, Ed "The Ace" McCulloch is known more for his ability to land a punch, than in winning Indy six times.
McCulloch grimaces at the reality but smiles because he understands everyone needs to have a legend. The past Funny Car legend, who helped make the plastic fantastics an iconic race car, stars in this Episode Three of Legends: The Series.
McCulloch discusses his early years of driving, and how he ended up racing nitro. He also discusses his days as the "enforcer" for The Dones, a.k.a Bill Doner. Join in the smiles as McCulloch comments on the comedic moments and then takes a somber route as he discusses the loss of wife Linda and the time away from his family.
You'll see a different side of the often misunderstood McCulloch as he opens up in this episode of Legends: The Series. - Авто та транспорт

Ace, I'd say after watching this, people will remember you as a super good guy, I know I think that way. Thanks for telling your stories. I still have a few pictures I took of the Revellution Duster at Maple Grove in about 1973 when I was about 12 or 13.
Ed just wanted to say ,Thank You for all the memories, I can't look back on the earlier days without thinking of you..You are forever a part of those memories that are so special to me, I still have a model car of your Revell funny car to this day
Thanks 'ACE'' !!!!
When he was driving the McDonald's digger I was maybe 6 years old and I remember he asked "how ya doing buddy"? In a respectful manner. He was one of few that gave that kind of attention and respect to a young kid. Thanks ACE!
P
In the early 70's when I was 15 it was a party. A camping trip. And just one hell of a great time at Seattle. Seeing Ed and the others at 64 Funny Cars. Thanks Mr. McCulloch for the great times. May your wife rest in peace.
Thank you, Bobby!
A LEGEND!
Ed "Ace" McCulloch
Went to the fights and a drag race broke out.lol.Absolute legend!
The wall of WALLYS says it all !
Ed the Ace McCullough an American hero an American icon an American Legend what a Class Act
Love the Ace. One of a handful of guys that made that era of Funny Car so great. Thanks Bobby & Ed for sharing the history.
HEART TOUCHING ❤ I remember watching Ed race at the first major drag racing event I attended at Maplegrove in the mid 80s. And many events since. Ed "The Ace" McCulloch, thank you for contributing to the fond memories that I have of my early life.
Ed was a big part of the golden era of drag racing. I witnessed four of those Indy wins.
I remember in the 70's when I was about 6 years old my Dad came home from work one day and handed me a poster, when I opened it, it was Ed McCulloch's Revolution Plymouth Duster funny car doin the burnout and thought it was the coooolest thing I ever got😊
I can listen to the Legends of the sport forever. Thanks for sharing! 👍👍🇺🇸🏁
Growing up I didn't really care for this man but what a time to br alive now all these guys are the super men of my youth anf I truly respect everyone of them the good ol days
Every episode of this series gets better and better. My dad was an Ace fan, I’m an Ace fan. I’m a Ron Capps fan because of Ace. This was an awesome way to tell his story and more about the great person he is. Thank you so much for this.
My best memory of Ed was at the U.S.Nationals when he drove the funny car back down the return road under power 😊
Oh man it's the ace I have to say that guy was a bad ass I love Ed him and Bernie fedderly were a good thing
It’s great Bobby
Gotta say the old race footage is just fantastic. Always loved drag racing. The one race that looks like the car sneezing off the line, and the blower gets spit out of the hole in the hood.....it just seems like the car is alive.
Linda was always a beautiful lady I did not know that end of the story thank you what a great video
ACE! Is the MAN! Thanks for the memories!
Most awesome interview. I see why you are the "Ace" Thank you .
I was lucky enough to have Ed autograph my Revellution model kit. He was a busy man, so it took me a while. At Rt.66 in Joliet. I still have my 1/16 version, a prized possession.
God bless you edYou are a great man
Thanks for doing all these great history videos, I absolutely love them
Best of the series right here, this one won't be topped.
Thanx, Bobby!
The story of a legend, in his own words! What a great video! Thanks Bobby and Ace!
Very very good Bob Bennett Thank you very much
Solid, solid interview.
He's been one of my heroes for years and always will be. I seen he was up in Redding a couple years ago about 2 hours from me at a bar after a race just hanging out having a beer just normal American. That's so love to meet him in life
Mike Smith told me a story about Ed throwing an engine out of his car and he was down at the end of the track with his speed wrench taking the spark plugs out to see how the cylinders look after the motor was laying on the ground LOL
Thats purdy funny rite there. Thats a man serious about his tune up rite there!
I have met Ed several times over the last 40 to 50 years.
Last last time was at the "March Meet" at Famoso. I believe Ed was the Grand Marshal that year. Ed is, and always has been a gentleman when I've been around him. Always a pleasure to see him and we've enjoyed his career in motorsports. Thank you Ed.
I was 12 years old going to Puyallup Dragway the Dragsters were okay but once those funny cars fired up it was like going to a Led Zeppelin concert
Thank you so much absolutely love these fantastic stories.
What an interesting guy, I could have watched another hour of this.
Thanks a lot I was raise in the car race business I think we all have the same story almost thanks for the memories
Ed and his son Jason always took time for me when possible at E-Town.
Ed Mccolloch a good person? Yes.
Outstanding! Very well made !!
I've always been a BIG fan of the Ace. I was disappointed when he left professional drag racing. I knew he left for personal/family reasons but I didn't know the exact reason. I ran into the Ace in the pits in Pomona on Monday Feb 11th, 2019 during the rain make-up day for the 2019 Winternationals. I didn't talk with him for very long but I did get a chance to tell him that seeing him at the track was one of the highlights of my weekend in Pomona. One of the all time greatest guys in professional drag racing. Thanks for being YOU, Ed!
Awesome thanks Bobby 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
As a fan of car racing and especially of Ed McCullough, this was fantastic to watch. What a story.
Very interesting article well done thank you
'the Ace'! I grew up in Boise, saw him race at Firebird a bunch and he was always my guy. Him and Bonin. I have probably been to a hundred National Events since and he's still the coolest guy there. I talked to his son Chip once at the Marriott in Ontario, CA during the Finals and I said to him how immaculate Ed's operation and how spotless everything was and Chip said to me...."who do you think had to polish and clean everything!" McCulloch was awesome!
Thank you Bobby for documenting the drag racing life..😀
Very well done. We get wiser as we grow older. Thankful for those who have supported us throughout our life.
Ed will always be one of my heroes. Saw him at Balboa dragstrip in Eugene. And Woodburn..
a long time ago.
What a change! Thanks, Bobby for an excellent interview. I've been waiting a long time.
Nice job Bobby
Thanks for the memories of an awesome time in drag racing
Love you Ace been watching ya since 1960s
This was great, thanks
This was such an awesome interview, I never knew most of this stuff about the "ace" and I'm a half assed drag racing historian!!! Always liked Ed Mcolluct!!!
One of the all time greats! Incredibly talented drag racer!
Great history about a great drag racer. My bro worked for "The Ace" on the Kalitta team, got to meet him at a few big NHRA events.
Don't be a victim! ACE has been my favorite for over 40 years.
That Miller car was one good looking racecar.
My grandpa said the same thing, NEVER start a fight but don't walk away, if someone starts with you, you finish it!!!
Coorp America takin the fun out. Imagine that...great video. Watch em all. Like em all. Could listen all day.
Thank You Bobby ,,
One of my all-time favorite people
Great story! I really enjoyed it
Living in the northwest the ace was one of my favorite drivers
And then go to Pacific race way park, I went out with a girl whose dad owned the track, that was AWESOME!!!
Just a super job!!!!!
Good stuff ed
Bobby Great Interview !
Ace's high! Great watch
That was good. I’ve always liked Ace.
Revellution!
Rebar business was good to me for 45 years but I'd rather been racing
Cuz of the fist fights in the staging lanes, then get in the car and race!!!
Ed.... no your not a Ass whole or Bad guy! That's was the time period of the era! Your a surviver . One of the Baddest Funny car shoes that's lived.
You should interview Bret Kepner. Wow, does he have a bunch of stories!
nice but.... You always miss what I consider a HUGE part of what makes these guys interesting - their memories, thoughts and insight to their peers. And I'm not talking about modern era crap, I'm talking only the great years - 1962-1985 (funnycar, 1962-1971 top fuel). Why could you not ask Ace about Jungle, Foster, The Chi-Town guys, etc?? He's one of the last ones living, and at 79 still very lucid! Please - make a part 2 with that in mind. THANKS!
Next time I will consult with you to make sure I am doing it right - before I spend untold hours editing these things the wrong way. - Bobby Bennett
👍👍👍🏁
Thanks Dan. Supporting Christian content. Be safe on power tour.
That's how men were made. And taught. Rule#1 don't start a fight but you better finish the fight if you start the fight you will have another fight when you get home. And if you lose you will get it again.. so you learned to handle it like a man.
Money wrecks everything
Did you know Jim Whipple?
Yeah, but is Pulde laughing about it..
I think everbody that was back then doing that car racing thing wears hearing aids ed
