I'm an Indian but i feel so proud that a young Pakistani singer made it this far! 🤌🏻❤️ More love to her and her art! 🙌🏻 Truly amazing voice.
whenever desis are recognised we all just come together its so precious 😭
Armaan malik song "you" also nominated for grammy. I feel proud too for him

Yes I think for 2 categories
Her album 'Vulture Prince' is
Listen to her new song, 'Mehram'
This song is an experience. It rings a bell as familiar, the strings, the picking, but the Urdu singing is so foreign to me which just makes this all the more hauntingly beautiful. What a gorgeous language and song.
I would suggest you look into Coke Studio Pakistan. You would love it!
Music touches the soul, regardless of the language. It’s the universal language brother ✌️
If u like Urdu u will love Coke studio Pakistan. Check out the Qawallis there specially. Abida Parveen is a legend 🙌
SHE WON!! SHE WON!! Thank you from all of Pakistan!
OMG PAKISTANIS MADE IT ONTO GENIUS I'M SO HAPPY
Same Pakistan zindabad
You mean the Grammy nominee?
Grammy nomination is amazing
But i think there are plenty of gems without any grammy and its nomination in south east asia
Like nusrat fateh ali khan sb
Lata mangeshkar
Kavita seth
Begum akhtar
Farida khanum
Atif aslam
Sonu nigam
Ali sethi
Mehdi hassan sb
Rahat fateh sb
Abida parween ji
So
I believe grammy don't deserve such gems
That's why they were never nominated
grammy made it to Pakistan. Our music is already so rich.
Eh not really she US citizen
AND SHE WON A GRAMMY!!!! CONGRATS!! PAKISTAN IS PROUD❤🇵🇰
Such a terrible voice and she deserves it
@Lulu Ma bcz the majority didn't have the same music taste or opinion as you (mind blowing right?)🤯
💫 DIVERSITY 💫
I am great full to get to know her voice and music art some minutes ago. Magical
@Lulu Ma how is it out of tune, do enlighten us.
And met bts I'm soooo happyyygy🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮
She sounds almost exactly like the record! Incredible performance, hope she wins every Grammy she's up for
She won grammy
@@ayeshanaveed8958 So happy!!
I think the vocals are mimed. Great song
a poem written by Hafeez Hoshiarpuri circa 1921, English translation of the words:
seeing how you have ample lovers around you,
i will not be one of them
this is sad, as i love you the most.
the sadness of this is equal to the sadness of all the world.
and were there not this one sadness, how much happiness would there be
in this world.
and even if i do somehow get to be one of your lovers,
the sadness of my time spent in separation from you will be all that consumes me
i will not be one of those lovers to you.
You’re the reason I love comments sections 👌🏿
Well done
Kinda loses the beauty of the original but still a great attempt at translating

The violin solo made me shiver! what an amazing duo.
I heard you almost 12 years ago !! You were destined for this. You were destined to make a mark through the beautiful voice you have been blessed with.
When you listen to this song with close eyes you feel like walking in green forest , slow rain , dark night without fear , love in heart , animals walk with you with peace , breeze torching your face soft , you don’t have destination but love (mohabat) you are lost in love , you don’t know the world but just love . Thank you

No more brown….we are Gold
rough english translation:
you will never fall short of those that love you
but you will no longer find me amongst them
the sorrows of the world, or the sorrow of being without you
if i have this one sorrow, all other sorrows cease to exist
even if we do coincidentally end up together
the grief of your absence/separation will not lessen
Its too late.......pakistan is full of master artist...nd winning first grammy...in 22...

How does this not have 100s of thousands of views?! Mind blowing performance🥰🥰🥰
I just heard this song on NPR today while driving. I had to get out my phone and Shazam it! So beautiful! I fell in love with this instantly! Congrats to her on her Grammy win! 💜🖤💜
check out her song Mehram - Coke Studio. it has translation in captions.
Well she has done it . congratulations Arooj for winning the Grammy
I wish people would also listen to the original version of this song by Mehdi Hassan. He is referred to as Shahenshah-e-Ghazal (Emperor of Ghazal), a title that suits him perfectly. His voice drives you into trance.
I really wish too
The original one hits you differently. i think only we can understand and feel that feeling not them
Thank you for sharing - I will listen! Any more recommendations?
@@yonn IF you like this genre, then there’s also Begum Akhtar, Ghulam Ali and some others whom you’d love.
@@Kashboy1809 Ooh thank you - i'll check them all out!!
Original poetry by Hafeez Hoshiyar Poori and sung by legends like Mehadi Hassan and Farida Khanam. Love this version too
Iqbal bano origanally sang it beta. Go search. Begum akhter has also sung. But ahe copying iqbal bano
Mohabbat
Karne waley
Kum na hongen
Those who love you will never be any less
Teri mehfil mein lekin hum na hongein
Yet your surroundings will be devoid of my presence
Zamaney bhar ke gum
The miseries of the life time aside
Ya ik tera gum
Just this one misery inflicted by you
Ye gum hoga to kitney gum na hongen
Shall this misery be; so many miseries won't become
Teri mehfil mein lekin hum na hongen
Yet your surroundings would lack my presence
Agar tu itfaakan mil bhi jaye
Even if you shall be mine by chance
Teri furqat ke sadmey kum na hongen
The horrors of your separation would never be any less
Teri mehfil me lekin hum na hongein
In your company there will lack my presence
Mohabbat krne waley kum na hongen
Although your lovers will never be any less
Teri mehfil me hum na hongen
I would not be there in your presence.
Lovely, thank you
Thanks for translating
Thank you for this..

This may be a word-for-word translation, but it loses all the poetry, so...I suggest you try again, but with a sense of the spirit of the poet, rather than the literal meaning of words.
Sufi poetry is my life. If they knew how drunk off our wine we got, they would trade it for theirs. Thank you Arooj bhaji for bringing this music and poetry to a larger audience. Mehdi Hasan himself would be proud.
i had goosebumps, countless goosebumps. the beauty of sufi infused music, triggers the soul to feel consoled ❤️
I am from Iran . I meet her for the first time in backbone ost. She really deserves grammy congeats to her .

Thank you Ms Arooj for this beautiful rendition! Love from India 🇮🇳.
The government in Pakistan is anti arts and anti music but Arooj Aftab’s Grammy win is a huge source of motivation and inspiration for aspiring musicians and artists 🥁🎸🎤🎼🎷
the government in pakistan is not anti arts and anti music at all...where did you get that impression from? Have you not listened to Coke studio? Junoon? Strings? Vital Signs?

Beta orignally sung by iqbal bano. Go n search first
We can see that Pakistan is greeting higher day by day MashaAllah this is incredible, ❤️ let's goo grammyysss
The acoustic guitar throughout the entire song gives "country music" influence. That coupled with her voice bringing an Eastern influence and the reverb of the 🎻 makes for an excellent song.
Proud to see her on an International level... Absolutely adore this song
I've been listening to the album for months now and I've only started watching her live performances today! What a treat!
So happy to hear URDU song on such a platform
Wow, I love this! Never thought she would be on Genius, this is AMAZING!!

Got to see her at Pioneer Works last week. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Omg her voice is so beautiful. Her grammy is a huge win for Pakistani's and such a big step for inspiring Pakistani artists to preserve their culture and poetry.
Fabulous. She is bound to leave her footmarks in the history of Modern Music. Congrats on winnig Grammy.
Such an inspiration Arooj 🥲 almost in tears listening to this (for good) hehe love this 🙏🏻 thank you for sharing this Genius, truly genius of you! ✨
A Grammy nomited song and artist. I’m so happy that I found this artist ❤️
The violinist is amazing!!
this song is literally so beautiful, the instrumentations, vocal style, the vibe, everything is just so beautiful.
What mohabbat actually sounds like if it was music ❤️
Teri mehfil mein magar hum na honge.. this music is trend setting fusion. Many have tried but lost west to east or the east to west. She beautifully blends it without any accent and preserving the beauty of Urdu while bringing in the Soul, jazz, Sufi and Bhajan aspect. In short even traditionalist Urdu classical and new age western audience can appreciate the beauty of the song.
Pakistan has wonderful music and wonderful cricket. Both bring people together. With love from an English cricket fan.
We Pakistani 🇵🇰are proud of her. Rise and shine
