It sucks that we are forced have lots of popular keywords in the title to be promoted! UA-cam needs to offer us more detailed category options to list when uploading a video so it can promote from the category not promote from mostly on the title of the video. For example when I upload a fishing or camping video the closest option I have for category is "entertainment". They should offer me more subcategories like sports and outdoors, camping, fishing, etc.
I don’t. I stick to 1-3 keywords in the title. And I only do 1-2 on the thumbnail. I’m a new channel but I also have a degree in journalism, so the words you choose are super important for the title. Shorter is generally better. There are only so many characters that show up for long form, and even less for shorts. It’s all about giving people a reason to click on your video to find out more. Very specifically, it hooks **your** audience to click on it to find out more. My channel is super micro niched, but I still don’t exceed the characters that display on mobile devices unless it’s totally unavoidable-like the title would be just a weird sentence fragment if I didn’t write a little more of the title.

When Shorts were first introduced, they seemed great. However, I'm starting to believe they’ve negatively impacted long-form content. Once you get used to watching one short after another, your attention span shifts toward this quick, to-the-point format, making long-form content feel less engaging. On top of that, Shorts pay significantly less, and many content creators are likely struggling to earn the financial rewards they used to get from long-form content.

Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of fame - ster, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.
This was VERY helpful, thank you! 👍😎 I’m watching/listening to this at work on my phone on a high rise construction site. Can’t wait to go home, sit down and watch this whole video again on my Smart TV while editing my next video!
The algorithm does probably push it to the right people, but 99% sure either the «space» or topic you are making videos about is so crowded that your videos are drowning amongst all the other videos and there just isn’t enough viewers divided by channels, or your thumbs and titles simply aren’t good enough to make your vids stand out, make an impression and make people click. Generic haul videos and random topics with very specific small brand names or terms don’t do well in search, and thumbs with a million different things and text and whatnot in them tend to blend in. Try to make thumbs that are the opposite, focus on a simple finger either nail art on an even colored (paper) background and a simple statement in text next to it on the thumb, and a title that focuses on something of value, like «How I did this» or «how to get such and such results with product X» or «3 simple ways to get nails ready for office xmas party with product Y or technique X» «3 secrets to amazing nail art with brand C» etc etc - highlight value and result, focus on striking imagery, and do that in between your other videos and see which perform the best.
It’s not the algorithm. Look at your analytics. Look at your impressions and your click through rate. Look at your watch time and see where people are clicking off. Like it’s math. It’s pushing it to people who have watched videos similar to your own based on what you gave YT (title, description, tags, hashtags, etc). I’m not a large channel by any means necessarily. So feel free to point and go what do you know. But as an avid UA-cam consumer I’m telling you the algorithm is pretty good.
@ Very true:) of course it’s much easier to blame «the algorithm» and scream at the clouds rather than doing all the analytical work of looking at one’s work and make an effort to improve, or just realize that shit will go slow for the type of content one makes …
Regarding Hastag, As you already mentioned before, it can be based on channel authority... Your brand... Your topic or niche... And some others use viral or trending or some add ons to hit the deck..
Small channel here. . .thank you for for the great conversation/education on all the above! I wish you all the best in your UA-cam journey. You got this 💪
One thing I’ve learned is knowing more or less how to title your videos are shorts within your niche to get views. Besides, any advice to anybody don’t become obsessed with the numbers you see on your analytics it can become unhealthy and discourage yourself
I just want to comment on what happens when you take down a bunch of videos. I had to do that because people who made a doll I featured in my videos told me that I either had to pay them for a license or take my videos down or else they would strike my channel. Even though they knew about my videos for years and kept selling me dolls and said I could use them, they decided that they wanted to get paid for me to continue to leave the videos up so I had to take down over 400 videos and my views are absolutely decimated now. I'm sure the algorithm is super confused. So my advice is just to leave your videos up unless they are actually bad and go against community guidelines.
@@dawnweston10 I thought about that too but it just wouldn't be the same since people would be frustrated that they couldn't see them. I'm honestly just so sad. This is the last thing i ever expected to happen on my channel.
I think the algorithm is high on some form of digital acid. I once did a short on Diddy, and the search term that it was shown under was "turtle barnacle removal!" What in the ... do those 2 things have to do with one another??
This is the best advice so far in the conments my channel is 2 yrs old 500 plus videos but education space is tough and for 1 I know I wasnt consistent because I run a full time creative marketing agency ive made enough money though to finally do youtube full time this year and next! Im pumped and love Seans advice because this is mega value

Do any of you remember being a kid in a group and the teacher asking for volunteers to do something really fun and everybody shooting their hands up in the air and shouting, "Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!"? Well, UA-cam creators are the kids in the group and the "algorithm" is the teacher choosing who gets to do the thing.
Thank you so very much for helping us small business owners, youtubers too, how to grow...Awesome video, learned a ton this time! Many blessings to you and yours =)
There's a huge amount of small craters that upload consistently long form short form. In their videos will always stop at like 200 views with like three comments and never go anywhere and then. You see some creators to put almost no Talent into their videos meaning they could just be talking or they could just be showing a piece of scenery and they get like a hundred thousand views every video so make that make sense why does some channels get a lot of attention in others don't😊
Let me get it straight. If search results are personalized, then it is very hard to get unbiased information. If I watch a lot of videos about conspiracy theories, doing my own research on a topic if the Earth is flat will result in UA-cam showing me videos that the Earth is actually flat. Great!
This is the most valuable algorithm video I've heard in a long time. Explained in ways everyone can understand 👏👏👏 For the most parts it backed up my own sense of things, but I see so many creators daily, not understanding that (or how) the algorithm is actually the audience 😉
Being consistent doesn't always work and why I say the news Ivan on UA-cam for like 18 years if being consistent and making the best quality you possibly can would get you views and how come my channel isn't blowing up some videos will get 16,000 views other videos will get almost no views or likes
When you uploaded this same video it was not doing well, as far as I remember it was 300 views in first 1 hour for based on that it would have hit 6k max in 1st week and then you removed it and uploaded again and views are better. What did you change 2nd time that your views are now better?
I having am working so hard like the rest of and getting my 45 last subs to get full monetize .. I’ve tried so many things .. some work some don’t.. always appreciate these video ..
What I really don’t understand is why for 2 months now have my lives not had any new viewers unlike before we used to get a ton of new people coming by I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong
I think Lives are going to be all about if your hitting when alot of people are watching for example if i go live after 1am obviously I will have low views try the boredom hour 2pm
I had couple videos on my UA-cam channel and no one was watching them for 2 or 3 years and suddenly they blowup and get millions views. How UA-cam algorithm can explain that ? 😊
I really love youtube algorithm compared to most. It is not as hyper as Tiktok nor as pushing as Facebook. I like Instagram too but the platforms are usually diverse due to their lengths and it's a great thing to have that. But one thing I have the most problems with these algorithms is that for shorts that, for a few days it makes your contents seem good and recommends to like 500 to a 1000 viewers but then it never really grwos at all. It's almost like, here's your cap views, take it and make contents until you get past this limit. It feels planned and not actual viewer based. I always get stuck at 500 short views. Can't be a coincidence when it happens like 30 or 40 times can it?
Exactly!! It’s NOT the fabled algorithms fault. It’s all down to Audience satisfaction. Content creators are also viewers. Would you watch the videos you post? It’s either yes or no. I’m leaning this the hard way.
YT chooses winners and losers. Impressions only matter if they go to the right people. The "audience" will not be "satisfied" if it's not a topic they care about. I regularly see high quality engaging videos getting only a few hundred views where a very similar video with no effort and no production value gets tens of thousands. makes no sense.
New channel and there is definitely so much to learn!! I find it hard to predict which views will get better views than others but when a video does well I try and look back to see why. Still a long way to go until monetization but I gotta keep putting the work in!!
As a 18 year creator with 750 video uploads and 750,000 views, one of my quotes and advice to wannabe new creators is this: If you were to take some pine cones off the ground, spray them with spray on glue, cover them with glitter, and put two googly eyes on them... and sit under an interstate bridge with a table, and sell them as "Pine Cone Friends" for a dollar a piece... all you'd have to do is sell just one at half price to the first cop that arrested you, and you'd make more money than I have on YT in 18 years.
I checked out your channel, and you have many interesting videos but not many views. I feel you. I started out last year, worked hard to get monetized, and had some videos over 100K views but have struggled since. It confounds me how some low-subscriber creators make a video and get millions of views! Don't give up, we will get this!
I’ve found that when I post has a significant impact on the long term of the video. Especially for my podcast videos. They are very sensitive to this. Is it bad to have your podcast on the same channel as your main channel?
This is amazing ,it was like UA-cam class BIG THANK YOU Gents. I appreciate this great info, and now my mind got mire abd I'm very much encouraged. 👏 🎉❤ 😊
There's no real understanding it...I just started an over 50's blog type channel and one of the videos has a good amount of views but not the others and I cannot really put my finger on why...Who knows but I'm having fun trying something different and chatting away :-) Nice interactions too in the comments which I really like...
Wanted to give my personal experience on the "does a youtube channel die" discussion @30:36. Short answer is no. I don't believe it does and here's my personal proof coming from a small youtube channel (17k subs) in a niche category (sim racing). Every year for the past 3 or 4 years I take a 3-4 month break during the summer while we are more active outdoors. About a month in I notice a drastic decline in impressions and views and towards the end of the break the channel basically crawls to a stop, essentially becoming a "dead channel" which is not promoted by the algorithm. But every year like clockwork, as I start to upload videos again, the impressions and views climb back up to what I would consider normal for a channel of this size. That's for new and existing videos. I believe this would be the same for any youtube channel regardless of size. I do use a little trick which seems to work. I make my first few videos back about hot topics in the space and then once youtube "realizes" I'm back I can start to trickle in my normal uploads. Hope this gives some encouragement to keep grinding!
It's interesting to see how much effort goes into understanding its nuances. I'm curious to know if there are any strategies to 'game' the algorithm without compromising content quality.
I had 32 subscribers a year or so ago. I see my growth as good, considering the quality of my older videos were shocking. But just changing the aesthetic of the video look, it's boosted it for my subs to go up. It's interesting how much a thumbnail has changed the views too. The other day, one video went to 700 views in a short while. Yet this week's video has only got 10 😂😂 I like creating, but sometimes it's just a kick in the teeth
I think the “swipe away” counting against a creator on shorts is unfair. I swipe away because there are shorts pushed one after another that I have no interest in. Why doesn’t UA-cam just keep pushing out videos if people are watching and ignore swipe away. I look at it from the perspective of, if even 1 person out of 10 is helped, the video needs to have the opportunity to help that 1. Stay True.
I’m literally trying to ignore the algorithm and just focus on good content. genuinely curious to hear if there is something I can do in favor of the algorithm

Hi, can you tell me how do you do your 'initial boost"? I am curious, Google ads? or hire company?
Another 'famester' bot😂

I just wish the algorithm woukd push it to the right ppl honestly
@@AndreSjoberg Thank you for the excellent advice.
Subscribed to support, don’t give up.

One thing I’ve learned is knowing more or less how to title your videos are shorts within your niche to get views.
Besides, any advice to anybody don’t become obsessed with the numbers you see on your analytics it can become unhealthy and discourage yourself

It’s crazy this change is happening now, I just decided to kick start my UA-cam channel back up after 1 year of not posting thanks for the info
Done Please ✅🖤🖤🖤🖤
I just want to comment on what happens when you take down a bunch of videos. I had to do that because people who made a doll I featured in my videos told me that I either had to pay them for a license or take my videos down or else they would strike my channel. Even though they knew about my videos for years and kept selling me dolls and said I could use them, they decided that they wanted to get paid for me to continue to leave the videos up so I had to take down over 400 videos and my views are absolutely decimated now. I'm sure the algorithm is super confused. So my advice is just to leave your videos up unless they are actually bad and go against community guidelines.
That's terrible and greedy of them. Maybe you could blur the dolls out and re-,upload the videos. They can't complain if the dolls are blurred.
@@dawnweston10 I thought about that too but it just wouldn't be the same since people would be frustrated that they couldn't see them. I'm honestly just so sad. This is the last thing i ever expected to happen on my channel.
So much good info in this one. Thank you!

I think the algorithm is high on some form of digital acid. I once did a short on Diddy, and the search term that it was shown under was "turtle barnacle removal!" What in the ... do those 2 things have to do with one another??

58:18 excellent video and thanks for answers all the great questions. You now are covering hashtags! Bravo!
Biggest takeaway: concentrate on consistency, quality and what the audience wants
@@MakeMoneyAnthonyScott thank you! Yes I've been 'doing' UA-cam part time as well for a while. I've recently pivoted from a non profit to content creation so 2025 is my year to put all this advice into practice. I love Sean and the Think Media team.
BINGO! 🎉
Great insight! It's so important to prioritize audience needs and deliver consistent, high-quality content. Keep up the great work!
yes, like everything. consistency, consitency, consitency, consistency.
Love it😂😂
😂 That was an Awesome example!😉
Thank you so very much for helping us small business owners, youtubers too, how to grow...Awesome video, learned a ton this time! Many blessings to you and yours =)
yes it takes a lot of time to grow a channel.
I would love to know!
You tube promotes people who think like them, like all big businesses!
It's been a frustration of mine for 5 years. YT chooses winners and losers.
Any new youtubers out there? Don't give up! I only have 6 subscribers but I won't give up. Best of luck to all new small channels. 👍
Yes stay the course. When I started I had 6 subscribers. Now I am up to 42 subscribers. Keep being consistent and you will get there.
Let me get it straight. If search results are personalized, then it is very hard to get unbiased information. If I watch a lot of videos about conspiracy theories, doing my own research on a topic if the Earth is flat will result in UA-cam showing me videos that the Earth is actually flat. Great!
hahaha, ohno. flat earthers I never understood ever
This is the most valuable algorithm video I've heard in a long time. Explained in ways everyone can understand 👏👏👏
For the most parts it backed up my own sense of things, but I see so many creators daily, not understanding that (or how) the algorithm is actually the audience 😉
“Motorcycles , projects, muscle cars and ratrods. “New channel” wish me luck 👍
hey, good luck! how does your new channel go?
This is the best video on these topics!
UA-cam changes biweekly. For example. The three minute shorts hype was a big bust.
Did it ever happen?
Think shows us the way. We just have to do the work. 2025 will be great for creators!
yes, we just have to be consistent and do the work
Being consistent doesn't always work and why I say the news Ivan on UA-cam for like 18 years if being consistent and making the best quality you possibly can would get you views and how come my channel isn't blowing up some videos will get 16,000 views other videos will get almost no views or likes
@@djwavepad420 Then what should we do ?
This is one of the most useful videos that you have done. Thank you so much.
Never give up it takes consistency and keep going even if you don't get views or subscribes ❤
Stay positive, keep pumping out content and best of luck to everybody on their UA-cam Journey 💕
I just subscribed we can all shine together Best wishes
Just subscribed your channel, let's all grow together❤
Thanks for dropping the info on changes 😊
From 0 to 63 Followers in my first month 🍻🍻🍻
that's great congratulations
When you uploaded this same video it was not doing well, as far as I remember it was 300 views in first 1 hour for based on that it would have hit 6k max in 1st week and then you removed it and uploaded again and views are better. What did you change 2nd time that your views are now better?
"Think of channels, like shows."
Like that one.
For me , I’m learning patience and growing a community of other great growing channels has made my UA-cam journey so much fun 😊
yes I know, me too. but patience is not always very easy

It can be overwhelming 😮so many items like CTR,Search, browse, analytics. BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP I stand on FAITH!❤
Great information! Been on the grind doing my research, just hope all this hard work pays off🙏🔥
I having am working so hard like the rest of and getting my 45 last subs to get full monetize .. I’ve tried so many things .. some work some don’t.. always appreciate these video ..
Thank you for this video. Very informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This Video was very insightful to me, thank you! 🥰
This was so valuable! THANK YOU! 🥳💛
Does anyone know why UA-cam Video stops halfway from getting views?
500 is definitely a cap!
500 is definitely a cap on Shorts! Happens to me all the time!
Yep seem like it
Exactly!! It’s NOT the fabled algorithms fault. It’s all down to Audience satisfaction. Content creators are also viewers. Would you watch the videos you post? It’s either yes or no. I’m leaning this the hard way.
fact.
Still a long way to go until monetization but I gotta keep putting the work in!!
hey congratulations to your channel
What is my category?
I honestly need help categorizing my content.
Thank you for this educational discussion 🎉
Very informative. Thank you for sharing 🙏
I dislike the algorithm .. let me watch the new videos from the channels I subscribed to FIRST !!
Then I'll scroll through their "suggestions"
As a 18 year creator with 750 video uploads and 750,000 views, one of my quotes and advice to wannabe new creators is this:
If you were to take some pine cones off the ground, spray them with spray on glue, cover them with glitter, and put two googly eyes on them... and sit under an interstate bridge with a table, and sell them as "Pine Cone Friends" for a dollar a piece... all you'd have to do is sell just one at half price to the first cop that arrested you, and you'd make more money than I have on YT in 18 years.
Be consistent. This is what we had to do along with remembering our why and reason for creating content.
This is amazing ,it was like UA-cam class BIG THANK YOU Gents. I appreciate this great info, and now my mind got mire abd I'm very much encouraged. 👏 🎉❤ 😊
thanks for this very interesting topic and i learned a lot
Very inspiring as always.
I hope so because shadow banning should be illegal.
There's no real understanding it...I just started an over 50's blog type channel and one of the videos has a good amount of views but not the others and I cannot really put my finger on why...Who knows but I'm having fun trying something different and chatting away :-) Nice interactions too in the comments which I really like...
Great tips as always.
AI gives you information but not context…favorite quote in regard to deciding how to prioritize AI in content creation is “let the human win”🙌
This video really gave me hope man, i appreciate yall! ❤🙏🏻
This was very helpful! Great podcast with good information.
I agreee, super good
It's interesting to see how much effort goes into understanding its nuances. I'm curious to know if there are any strategies to 'game' the algorithm without compromising content quality.
Very informative,thanks for sharing ❤
Great information for a newbie. Thanks!
Is it good to upload daily for a new UA-cam channel to get more watch hours?
Very Interesting, will apply these tips to my channel. 👍
Thank you for sharing this video! I loved all the little gems of wisdom that were included.
Great information. Thank you.
I just started trying to put my niche together in away that makes since. Im doing shorts right now.
Yet this week's video has only got 10 😂😂
I like creating, but sometimes it's just a kick in the teeth
I think the “swipe away” counting against a creator on shorts is unfair. I swipe away because there are shorts pushed one after another that I have no interest in.
Why doesn’t UA-cam just keep pushing out videos if people are watching and ignore swipe away.
I look at it from the perspective of, if even 1 person out of 10 is helped, the video needs to have the opportunity to help that 1.
Stay True.
I’m literally trying to ignore the algorithm and just focus on good content. genuinely curious to hear if there is something I can do in favor of the algorithm
Great video! Good stuff guys!
This live was really helpful. Thank you!
