Backpacking Through Europe: 5 Things You Will Love & Hate About Backpacking Through Europe
Eurorail vs interrail vs cheap flights. If you want to know more leave a comment below and I will do my best to get back to you.
Glad to hear my video could help. Have fun studying in germany and traveling. Im sure you will have a great time!
I really like that you talk fast, thanks for not wasting my time like a lot of other youtube channels. If slow people can't keep up then let them sivv out
as a fellow traveler I say THANK YOU. Because there are so many backpackers who do not. The travel size aisle at major stores have so many little things that can make a big difference. Johnsons baby shampoo makes a good clothes detergent and shampoo combo (a bit silly but for some it helps). Sounds like you are ready to go! have a great trip!
i can completely relate with the 3am reader :) hehehe Have a great trip back home then paris. thanks for watching and all the comments. I really appreciate it!
this is VERY TRUE
yep. I feel you!
and thank you for the kind words about the channel! big hug from the whole wolters world team!
its true, its sad, but it is true.
Depends on hotels bit probably 4000 euros maybe. Hotel transport food. 21 days. But that is a guess based on what I do while I travel
Yes, about a decade ago. I was working in Lithuania at the time, but that was before I started making the travel videos. I would like to get back again sometime in the next couple years.
so true. sooooo true :)
Kiitos! I lived in Turku when I was in high school. had a great year there :)
Italians love kids and makes it easy to travel there, what are your kids ages? we have a few videos on here (by my wife) about traveling with kids. there is a playlist for kids and female travelers videos that may help a bit.
Mark,
Someone once told me the best way to ensure that a marriage will survive is take a long trip together before exchanging the vows. If you can survive it together, he or she is a keeper.
So true. I find Johnson's baby shampoo is a good "double" for both washing clothes and yourself.
i just can hear u talk for 2 hours....
i wish i had teacher like that back in school,
aryel rasa thanks aryel.
Seriously! He's very enthusiastic and his voice isn't annoying.

same here :) well, the sleeping in sketchy train stations part that is :)
I am trying to set it up so I will be there for a next summer. so hopefully this time next year we will have lots of Belgium videos
love it :) we will be back next summer filming again.
Great review.
When you backpacking through new places it's also good to know which areas of the cities you are visiting to avoid, especially after dusk. You can save a lot of troubles. Greetings!
Wow, it seems like you really know how to experience travel to it's fullest. Love it :) I love the quote... "Traveling is the only thing that you can buy that makes you richer"
#5 every starts to blur together.. That is sooo true!!
i am a huge fan of brugges and visiting the WWI battlefields. i am sure i will have a few videos from there. heck, i might make a whole video on waffles and fries :) now you got me all excited and hungry thinking about next summer :)
Thanks for the great tips. I really appreciate it.
Eu amo esse vídeo ❤️
Well, as we are talking about the reach of social media and the importance of networks (which I will cover in November) being able to track the views and likes leads to a direct discussion later in the semester on how we can use our networks to build business. If you feel uncomfortable with this please come see me at my office hours and I will gladly negate the extra credit and not do this. It is up to you.
3:18, that's one of the reason why I usually travel no more than a week, it's short but exciting.
Super vid this one!!! Hits the nail on the head!! I am English, but live in Germany, and LOVE to travel. I liked all of your points!! The one about ending up hating your back packing partner!! (when she stays up reading till 3am with the light on!)Yepp!!! LOL I only travel alone now! I´m married to a German now, he´s fun!
Everything about tour channel is fantastic! My sister and I washed a lot of our clothes in the showers and sinks of the hostels. Our stuff smelled like cheap shampoo, but hey, better than BO
Great videos you are truly well travelled!
Haha, we've spent a couple of nights sleeping in sketchy train stations, even being rescued by local friends from the Naples station, thank the gods, on the rocky beach of Nice and dancing all night in Madrid due to missed overnight train. Being girly girls we had to do our laundry on a regular basis, horror of any stink, haha.
Thanks for the super informative video. Will be visiting your site if we head this way! :)
I can relate to t the clothes about 10 days but we didn't have time to go to wash clothes because of 8 tours and did get burned out didn't have time to see the dolg palace in venice but next time I will.
A good leader says "go." A great leader says "let's go." I can see why you might feel the way you do. But as a recent advertising grad, it's so important to teach students real world applications and getting them involved with something you like/do as a professor is a great way to ensure you're invested in teaching them.
Doing Uk next week, then Paris the week after!!
Haha, the guy at the end! Gotta love that Monty Python vibe.
Yup... I Look forward to your new videos WoltersWorld. I am a guy from FINLAND :). I hope i can visit USA someday
Excellent video man never have enough money backpacking in Europe but I love this video anyway thanks for posting it you actually make a very good point in a finding your own in Europe in the path you take. I can tell you have a lot of experience doing that. Great job. ChurchMouse
I am putting together a video on budgeting for traveling to Europe and backpacking so hopefully that can give you some ideas on how to make it on a budget. thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for all the tips.
I am planning a study abroad trip to German this summer and of course i will go around Europe!! mush be fun~!
i will definitely bring a lot of plastic bags to pack the dirty clothes and keep the rest place of my suitcase smells good! This is a really important hint actually~ >
Did an all around Europe trip 15 years ago alone. From Oslo through Gøteborg and, Copenhagen to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam through Brussels to Paris. From Paris to Rome through Venice - Budapest - Krakow - Prague - Berlin - Malmø - Oslo.
Only mistake I made was I packed too much. Other than that, I highly recommend it. Perhaps you'd have a Before Sunrise (Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy) moment like I had in Budapest....
Really?! I wish to go to Europe and see what it's like. My family is afraid of me doing that though.
Hi do you have any advice or videos for two Brits travelling the US next summer? Thanks, your videos are very insightful. I'm from Manchester, UK so it's interesting to hear your thoughts on England!
Great vid! Could you give a rough estimate on the price it would cost for.. let's say, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and Switzerland for 3 weeks. Like a big circle. ?
Thanks for the advice! i'm going to Milano, Prague, Bruges and Amsterdam in 40 days all by myself, if anyone has any extra advice i'll be very thankful!
She will be 2 1/2 when we plan on heading out next year. I have seen the videos about how to keep kids entertained and it was a good piece. Our last trip we were in Italy for 2 weeks along with a split week in Krakow (which is AMAZING) and Berlin. Is there any other place that would have things to keep her entertained while still having fun for adults. We were thinking Barcelona and Paris maybe just not sure how it would be.
Great video! I hope to travel there soon :) I think I would love the food best! Haha, did police actually stop you before because you were making videos?
Will you ever make a video about Belgium? It's a beautiful country, I go there every year and I'd like to know your thoughts on it.
I will try to put a video together for you guys. But just send me a private message here on youtube or facebook and I will try 5o answer your questions. 5 love and hates of england should be coming out in the next couple weeks. Thanks for the support.
Cool video :0 backpacking is classic... Europe
We will be going first a kid for the first time and are trying to find some kid friendly countries. What would you recommend for the best kid friendly countries in Europe so we can keep traveling with kids. Thanks and love your videos :)
You know.... I never would have thought about the smelling part of traveling. That is actually really gross! Also, when I travel to other countries like France it was true that things started to blur together. That is why when I went I made sure to visit much different and interesting things every day. Maybe a church one day and then a cemetery the next.
Hi, me and my husband are planning a trip with our kids 12 & 7. Would you recommend backpacking as a family. We’re planning to get the Interrail pass.
I had the eurofunk stink in europe. I stank pretty quickly because I went broke pretty quickly.
He's right in every point. But the stink is avoidable. Every hostel has showers and most provide washing facilities for your cloth in one way or another. Also contrary to some weird rumours deodorant is available everywhere in Europe so there is no excuse for stinky clothes!
I also recommend this stuff:
www.amazon.de/Rei-Tube-4er-Pack-125/dp/B0049MEK5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386160293&sr=8-1&keywords=rei
You can use it to wash your cloth in a bathtub or a sink. It's available in almost every German drug-store and probably in other European countries.
Washing clothes in a sink is not impossible :)
Don’t stink. Take showers. Bring your clothes into the shower with you and give‘em a swipe or two...or three with your bar of soap. Hang them somewhere to dry while you sleep. Easy peasy. Cheaper than using the washers and dryers. If it’s hot, it’s a great excuse to stay longer in the cold showers!
I'm about to do a backpack tour; this is good advice, but I will not. stink. Washing clothes is easy and necessary-- and besides I use space bags for everything which keeps stink to itself. I got 50 soap sheets for 60 days...c'mon. Daily showers, deodorant...I'll spend 3-7 days at each stop, and see sights but that pace means sitting in a park reading a book, window shopping, doing photography (architecture in particular) unrelated to tourism, exploring, all keep me oriented and grounded.
@woltersworld well speaking of your brother so how many siblings do you have? Also are you the older one or no?
why not use a tent?
All right do that please. How are you today? So what did you think about Russia overall? Food, nightlife, entertainment, lifestyle, etc. Thanks.
I dont agree. Planning is the fun part, especially nowadays with the internet and google earth. Backpacking doesnt have to mean no planning !! Me and my wife always argue about where to go. This year we saw Prague, although she wanted to go to Italy. One thing we agree on is that we both like long distance trains.
#5 After extreme partying in Amsterdam (recommanded) everything will be blurred too!
very very VERY true :)
My dream is to live abroad in Europe, and you mentioned how you lived there once or twice. I was wondering if you have any career tips or tips in general on how you managed to be able to live there? I am currently majoring in Journalism and I am at a crossroads on what to do after college and how am I able to fulfill my dream of living there!
You can live in Europe with almost any job, certainly Journalism (atleast here in Belgium)
Daxboy16 that's really interesting, I'm an amateur photographer and I've always wanted to get into the field of journalism. what kind of credentials are needed to get in over there. I'm planning a trip out that way in a month so who knows; a life changing event could entail.
How bout backpacking on a shoestring budget? Staying mostly in hostels, couchsurfing, hitch hiking, and other cheap methods of transportation of there is any.. I'm not that big on museums, but I probably will go to a some just to learn something about the history, but I'm more of a sightseeing and partying kind of guy.. I do want to go to festivals, raves, beaches, maybe bar hop every once in awhile.. I don't have any cities I want to visit in particular just want this to be as spontaneous as possible.. Is this doable? Do I really need a lot?
no you don't need a lot but best to have some cash as backup just in case
woltersworld of course... :)
thank you for responding :)
Travelling spontaneously is fun, but a little preparation is recommended in order to avoid paying too much for things you could have avoided. E.g. it's not a bad idea to know most Italian restaurants charge for the cutlery used, as to not to be surprised by your bill. Or to get to know the discount prices for public transport, how to get them and how to use them (day tickets, how to validate them, where you can buy them...). In some countries, you can't buy your ticket on the bus, but you can in most newspaper shops (or tabacchonisti, in Italy). In others you can, but it will be more expensive. Or if you do book a hotel room in the suburbs, how to get there. I have had to walk a number of times in darkness for miles to my hotel, because I didn't check if there were taxis or a bus available.
when i backpaCK i always take trash bags and i put double trash back on my dirty clothes so it wont stink !! and keep my clean clothes
I plan on going this summer with my cousin, not including the cost of my flight i will have 6k USD, i want to go to Rome, Florence, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Munich! I will be staying at hostels, its not a fancy vacation but traveling to see the world. Will that be enough money for my trip? (I might make a stop in Switzerland and Belgium)
yeah, that should be fine. but avoid Switzerland if you are not sure about your funds, it is dang expensive there :)
You could try couchsurfing. It will make your trip much cheaper and you meet locals who often show you nice places and tell you more about the local culture and way of living.
Especially in busy and touristy places like Rome and Paris you should give it a try.
Skip Milan and go to Venice
Erik Spadia
I got my ticket a few days ago so im officially going! i changed my plans up a bit, going to start off in Rome and from there go to Florence, Venice, Barcelona, Paris, Bruges, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Prague, Vienna and end the trip off in Budapest. 2 months. il have 7500 USD(after railpass and airfare) for my food, hostels and extra travel costs il need on top of the railpass im getting.
***** Yeah, it's good that you're skipping Milan. I studied abroad there and it's the most boring major city in Italy! I haven't been to Venice but Florence is absolutely gorgeous, you'll love it. Have fun! =)
The only problem for me is going alone :/ money is too but I can save up for a few months but finding someone with the same passion in traveling :(
+Charizard Just go alone.
Hmm, why would traveling alone be a problem? Are you afraid of criminals? I would Get that (Especially if you are a woman, no offence) i guess it is easier for a 7 foot gorrila to feel safe alone. But try out solo! It is so relaxing to not have to think about ANYONE but yourselfe. Also with the money problem. Go of the regular party, tourist areas are often more expensive
Cops questioned me in the usa and china :)
One word: Kindle
how old were you when you travelled a lone for the first time with out parents?
Is 16 old enough? and I will go with my boyfriend.
Is your BF also 16? I would not go at such a young age because there is a lot of things the requires you to be an actuall adult
Check out northernbackpackers on Facebook
Have you ever been to Russia?
You went to Europe and America so when is Africa?
when africa isnt a fucked up festering shithole.
Hayley Pierce That's an unfortunate generalization.
When there is no risk of bringing Ebola everywhere
Hayley Pierce South Africa, Botswana and Namibia are pretty safe and amazing.
Hayley Pierce That's an ignorant generalization. Stay home from now on.
The blur thing is too real! I try to take a break in the middle of the vacation - a few days to do and see nothing. But I disagree about the stink factor; there's just no reason for it even if you're backpacking it. Do a little wash in your room every night, especially the socks and underwear. About once a week set aside a few hours to hit a laundromat for a major cleaning.
Hi Mark. I sent message to you, if you don't mind.
Wanna see culture go to europe people...
America has good culture too.
sure but a short one
"you will stink" speak for yourself
You must be single
pretty sad that you have to bribe your students so you can get views on a personal video that has nothing to do with our class.
