    I'm glad they're still producing for their instant camera lineups and film. I do, however, wish they would more attention to the instax Wide format, I think it's such an amazing and unique format for instant film. I know it's not as popular as the mini (for obvious commercial and physically practical reasons), but with the right camera (of which there are limited options for Wide...) you can get incredible large photos with containing so much information and detail. A New instax wide camera, even if the only added features were double exposure and self timer, would be appreciated. So yes, you can get an AMEN 🙏up in here! I know autofocus like the 500af is a big ask considering the market size, or even SLR, but one can dream...
    I think this SQ40 is essentially meant to be the instax mini 40 "older look" version but for the square format. But I do think they slightly missed the mark with the aesthetics by not having silver coloured accent rails, like the mini40 has. It looks like its from the 2000s, instead. I think highlight/accent rails would have helped avoid that 🤔at least they got the fake/plastic 'leather' look correct, though.
    Thanks for your videos on these cameras and thank YOU @Gordon Laing actually including them in your little reviews! I, for one, unlike some other comment(ers), do not think "instant photography" is 'teenage sh*t'. How little they know about the history of photography and photo development... I think some would have a much greater appreciation for instant film such as Instax and Polaroid, and even some old school now commercially defunct types, if they understood just how it works and the history/importance behind it.

    Interesting. I´ve been thinking of grabbing a Mini Evo off of ebay... I somehow dig the square analog format. But on the other hand: for $20 I can buy pretty much any roll of analog film for my Olympus Mju 2 or Olympus OM-2N. There I get 36 frames...

    Really disappointed that this is just a slightly different looking, more expensive SQ1. This would have been a great chance at a more feature rich, manual control friendly square camera. Where are the new Wide cameras? Fuji is sure getting lazy with their Instax camera line which is a shame, it used to be quite good.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  Рік тому +1

      It's a good question and certainly a modern phone will take more detailed images than the EVO with a higher DR too. But once they're printed, many of the noise and DR issues of the EVO digital images are hidden or reduced, or at least become less noticeable. And what you're left with actually looks quite similar to analogue instax. There's not much difference in detail, noise and DR. That said, there is a slightly electronic look to the printed EVO images that I'm less fond of. Technically they might actually be a bit better than the analogue instax, but do they look better? That's a personal choice. I try and take photos of similar subjects in my reviews, so take a look at my EVO review to see what you think vs some of my analogue reviews.

      it only makes your moving subject not blurry when you make your shutter speed faster....

      that is what I am trying to say...
      so you are limited by how fast your subject is moving...and if you push the film by changing the shutter speed just to make it darker then your subject cant be moving or else the picture will be blurry...
      yeah maybe hacking for a higher shutter speed would darken the picture....but because the film is locked at 800 ISO this will just result in a grainy picture unless you decrease your f stop on the lens...

      If the ISO and aperture are both fixed, then shutter speed is the ONLY thing that can adjust the exposure. A faster shutter speed will make the exposure look darker, and vice versa. Yes, it can also be used to freeze or blur motion, but it can also be used to control the exposure.

      most people "push or pull" film during development to over come locked ISO by using longer development times...
      this can be done with instax only by tempterature..which is why it develops fast in heat and slow in cold...
      and over ecposes when developed fast and in light and is perfect when developed in dark and colder temps...

      Yeah always. Ha ha. But while you mock, do try and make a video review of something like this and you'll notice some challenges you may not have realised as a viewer. In this case, the prints kept moving as they were placed on the surface, so I had to keep refilming and placing them more deliberately, hence the thumb moving more into a place that allowed the video, but became more compromised for how you'd actually handle them in real life. It sucks.

    • @cameralabs

      This teenage sh** is actually what makes the most money in their camera division, and without it, they almost certainly would find it difficult to fund all the X series projects. So if you're a fan of X and GFX, you should embrace Instax as funding a great deal of that company.

      Calm down. It's like the auto industry. Every City Golf or Tiguan sold to a housewife funds the R&D for the next R8 or 911. The reason you will get the next iterations of the XE or whatever is because these sell and have great margins.
