  • For this project, I challenged myself to completely clean up this flower bed by digging out every perennial plant from it, weeding it, adding irrigation, limbing up the Hydrangea and then underplanting the Hydrangea with companion plants. I planted Heuchera / Coral Bells, Feather Falls Carex, Impatiens and Coleus which I think will compliment the Hydrangea nicely.

What a transformation! I think the annuals you chose are perfect! The only other annuals that I can think of for that space would be begonias, or perhaps lobelia or alyssum, if the light is suitable.
I had to undertake an unplanned renovation of a border between my driveway and a fence line. In the spring, my neighbour accidently drove her jeep through my border and fence! Thankfully nobody was hurt (she narrowly missed the tree behind the fence) but my garden and fence got pretty smushed! Resetting the post and repairing the fence flattened whatever was left. I took it as an opportunity to redo the bed, shopping my other beds for hostas and brunnera . I also used coleus that I had grown from seed or propagated from cuttings to fill in some gaps. I added impatiens for pops of colour. I have to say that I like it even better now! I am motivated to gradually revamp some other beds (hopefully without the drama!)

Hi Maureen! I like your suggestion on annuals I could place in this space. I'll have go give some of those a try either this year or next year. 😊
Oh wow! I'm sorry to hear about your flower border near your driveway. But I'm happy to hear that you were able to renovate that space and boy does it sound beautiful! Also, I love hearing that you are motivated to work on your other flower beds. Shopping your own yard is the best, isn't it? Happy gardening, friend! 💗🌺

Love it, Vita! Everything looks great. I have some of that feather falls sedge. You always inspire me to divide my plants. I’m thinking about where I can put that sedge elsewhere in my garden.😊And I say yes to the astilbe… and love impatiens or begonia for the front.

Hi Jen! It's amazing how quickly that feather falls sedge multiplies after you divide it. I was able to plant some of the astilbe, impatiens and begonia out in that area. Now to see how things take off for the remainder of the growing season. I'm especially interested to see how the astilbe perform next Spring. 😊🌸
