  • A talk at the annual retreat of the International Buddhist Studies College:
00:00:58 Ajahn describes his own background and experience starting at Wat Pah Nanachat 26 years ago as a pah khao (layman in white) in 1994. Observing the power of the kilesas / unpleasant mental states and developing endurance and observing the little developments of peace.
00:09:00 Early contributions of Tan Ajahn Anan (now at Wat Marp Jan but then Ajahn Chah’s secretary)
00:12:00 Lessons from the meditation and contemplation experiences of the Buddha; the importance of the five spiritual powers starting with faith and confidence in Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha and one’s own growing ability
    00:19:29 Sati
00:25:24 The importance of consistency in meditation practice
00:26:08 Early feelings of wanting to disrobe and using occasional peaceful states as a refuge
00:27:46 Recalling the Buddha’s reviewing and feeling of awe for his enlightenment
00:29:28 The Ānāpānasati Sutta - one of my favourites, makes it so clear
00:34:26 Summary - the suffering that leads to the end of suffering
    00:37:18 Invitation for Questions:
00:37:46 Q1 - You were born and raised in a non-Buddhist culture, what do you believe accounts for your interest in buddha-dhamma?
01:00:58 Q2 - I would like to develop more concentration. How can I motivate the mind to this end?
01:06:00 Q3 - What qualities do you think you had that formed your foundation of interest and commitment to the monkhood?
01:08:47 Q4 - Do you believe Ajahn Chah was enlightened and how did his abilities contribute to your development?
01:14:16 Q5 - If there is no self why strive had for nibanna?

Thank you, Venerable Ajahn! You would have made a fine doctor, lawyer, or movie star; but what a waste that would have been, and what a loss for the world!

My opinion , Ajahn Achalo is an Arahant monk . I have ever gone to make a merit on the Gratina day at Wat Anantakiri monestry Kao Klor district Pechaboon province Thailand . That year Ajahn Pasanno from the USA. also joined ceremony. It made me so happy making the great merit with the 2 greatest monks. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

Interesting life story- when I was young I felt the same regarding this isn’t the way we should live. So here we are in a time 2021 where we can’t travel all over the world. So how can we look for these signs when we don’t want to hurt people by traveling?
