Standing at the limit of an endless ocean
Stranded like a runaway, lost at sea
City on a rainy day down in the harbor
Watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay
Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you
This is not the way that I remember it here
Anyone will tell you its a prisoner island
Hidden in the summer for a million years
Great Southern Land, burned you black
So you look into the land and it will tell you a story
Story 'bout a journey ended long ago
Listen to the motion of the wind in the mountains
Maybe you can hear them talking like I do
They're gonna betray you, they're gonna forget you
Are you gonna let them take you over that way
Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land
You walk alone, like a primitive man
And they make it work, with sticks and bones
See their hungry eyes, its a hungry home
I hear the sound of the stranger's voices
I see their hungry eyes, their hungry eyes
Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land
They burned you black, black against the ground
Standing at the limit of an endless ocean
Stranded like a runaway, lost at sea
City on a rainy day down in the harbor
Watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay
Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you

Anyone will tell you its a prisoner island
Hidden in the summer for a million years
Great Southern Land, in the sleeping sun
You walk alone with the ghost of time
Where they burned you black, black against the ground
And they make it work with rocks and sand
I hear the sound of the strangers voices
I see their hungry eyes, their hungry eyes

Everytime i hear this song, it reminds me of my time spent in Auckland. They played it all the time on radio. And my time there was such a great southern land.
I remember leaving a lame party with friends and checking out the theater. This was playing next and so we saw it.
We all said we didn’t like it but nearly 35 years later I have fond memories of the flick for some reason.
I remember going to see this movie in the theatre when I was in my teens... was a big fan of Ice House then...and still am in 2020.
Great song. Great movie.
I love Australia and its amazing bands 😍❤️✨😘
We love you too.
@@Rhettsta ohhh 🥺♥️♥️♥️
I too listened to Icehouse long before INXS, (of which I am also a big fan of, and Midnight Oil)...starting with their debut album "Icehouse"in 1981.
Australia has so many great bands
The first rock band I can remember listening to is Icehouse. I listed to electric blue for 3 weeks nearly constantly before and after school.
ICEHOUSE has sold over three million albums locally and over nine million internationally. They have had 28 platinum records in Australasia alone, eight top-10 albums and over thirty top-40 singles
That makes me happy. Not many people I talk to in the states even know the band existed but it's always been a favorite of mine that I've returned to again and again since I bought the first album in the 80s.
Yehh true, basicallee le Dawsville cutt that noone wanted though. No real Western Staraleahn's anneeway.
Saludos

This movie got me into surfing in the 90s, as a kid. I remember that.
Love this song since I heard it at 5 watching young Einstein here in the states. I would go to the video store every Friday night and pick random movies and i happen to discover Yahoo Serious...what a legend!
I'd completely forgotton about this film and this song. Sometimes, just sometimes, youtube lets slip a rare gem of a recommendation that makes endlessly clicking "Not Interested" worth sifting through their recommendations. Thanks for uploading this.
Every time I hear this song I want to watch this movie. I loved Yahoo Serious' Movies.
This is a fabulous song, - and I'm from a northern European country.
I been looking for this song for 7 years honestly..and finally I found thank you 😉👍
One of my best songs
Cannot remember these guys in the 80s but what an awesome band. Now 57 and still enjoy.
They started as Flowers, but back in the day, they were travelling. They went overseas where a Scottish band already had that name. After their breakthrough album, they renamed themselves after the album, and became Icehouse. I bought it on cassette. 👍😁🍺
I love this movie soundtrack. Bought it years ago. One of my favorites.
This music will rock on 🤘 for many generations to come
