- we wanted to put the new blade on the mill and run a few logs thru it before we saw this weekend , hope you enjoy! We have a online store at markgaliciccha...
Beautiful blade! Sounds smooth and perfect - positively sings. Hadn't realised there was a guide block set below the cut.
The yellow pine looked great and I bet it smelled good too !
Boom, happy new sawblade day. 🥳
thanks Mark , many new BOOMS with this new blade.
I learn a little more about the saw mill operation Everytime I watch your videos! It's like taking a course in your craft plus entertainment thrown in! Great stuff, thank you!
It is so enjoyable watching you and your group go about your daily work lives. I could watch you guys everyday and never get tired of doing so. Keep it up. There are more folks out there that enjoy watching you do what you do than you can imagine. Thanks so much.
It's your mill, why should anyone tell you how to run it?. If they don't like it don't watch. I think it's a great channel to watch and relax, as I don't have to think. Grat show. Regards to you all. Richard 🇬🇧
thanks Richard.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks
Hey Mark, those of us at B.H.Payne just want to thank you for reaching out to us, we hope your new saw treats you well!
Thanks Chris , I hope you get more sales from this video.
Onewrenchrodeo here still have not given up on my frick sawmill. Thank you for the great video about working on the mill. The knowledge you guys have about circle mills is so important to me .
thank you , hope to see you at the Bunyan show this OCT.
Love your videos! Please keep them coming! That new blade cuts like butter!
thanks Chuck , I sure will.
Thanks guy's for all your hard work. I look forward to all the new videos and seeing what treasures are sent in.
thanks.
Sweet! You know how I feel about first cuts on a new blade! BTW I'm still impressed with the stability of your and Ed's rebuild of the carriage, still rolling true and stable!
thanks Doug , this made it even better.
That's a big ass saw blade !! Good luck with your new toy. :-)
thanks Ray.
Its so Shiney! Thanks for sharing that aspect of mill maintenance. While I understand the concept of hammering a blade, I've never seen ot done. That would make a really interesting video, at least to me. Great job guys.
If I remember - they have a video a few years back showing blades being hammered.
thanks Stephen.
👍👌👏 2) Yes, the saw definitely sounds different, especially a lot quieter.
Best regards, luck and especially health to all involved people.
thank you.
Smooth cutter Mark. She's a beaut Clark!! And the first log on it is what FrickenJeep calls sticky wood. LOL
thanks Doug , good ole sticky wood lol!
I worked for a fellow back in the early 80's, old boy, great guy to work for.
His father was a saw filer, I think that is what you call the trade, sharpen the saws and tune them.
He had stories about his dad's shop. His anvil was perfectly smooth, there were a line of hammers on the wall, all smooth.
He said the quickest way to get booted out of the shop forever was to take one of the perfect hammers and hit the perfectly smooth anvil. Any kind of a divot in either the hammer or anvil would affect the tune of the blade. Sawmills from miles around used to bring saws to him, he was that skilled.
Truly amazing what a true tradesman can do.
we lost our saw smith he was the best.
Greetings Messrs. Galicic & Horvath!
First-time commenter here - love your videos and stories; always something new to learn! I'm not sure if you would call a person in that capacity a saw smith, or a sawyer. My late father, who passed away in 1986, emigrated to Canada after the war; his first job was at a lumber mill and camp in Chalk River, ON, west of Ottawa. He was mostly a teamster, who drove the horses out of the bush pulling logs. However, he had a damn good eye for saw filing and setting the blade teeth on the mill equipment. When I was a kid, I would watch him set saw blades that were dead on the screws! About 8 years before his passing, we got a wood stove, around the time of the second oil embargo. He got a cross-cut saw from an acquaintance of his, and proceeded to bring it back to life. He cleaned the metal, filed and set the teeth, and WOW, that saw went through logs just like butter! The inertia did all the work; as he said to me, let the blade do the work! Yes, the old adage is so true; experience is the best teacher! Thank you for sharing your sawing adventures; much respect!!@@markgalicic7788
Cool!👍
That's quite a complicated procedure. Thanks for including us in the installation.
I was a sawyer for 30 years looks like it is running pretty good and sounds good brings back memories
yes she is and cuts great.
Hey there fellas, I appreciate you sharing videos such as this one. I've only put my blade on once so far and I don't think I "loaded the blade" but I certainly will from now on. I've got some videos to share of me doing a pretty big cutting job for a guy but I filmed it on a new GoPro and I don't know how to upload it. Lol
How's it going , did Mike have a 60" B-pattern saw on that mill when you bought it? I use the charging cable to download my videos from the GoPro onto my computer just plug it into a USB port.
Yes sir Mike ran this 60" "B" blade. He actually said in a video he didn't like this blade but he was to old and sick to buy a new one. I've spoken to a guy called the Saw Doctor from West Jefferson, NC he told me he worked on this blade for Mike and said it is hammered for a slow rpm. He wants me to change the drive sheave and get the rpm correct at 600rpm then bring him the blade to be checked and hammered for 600rpm. He also said I should consider buying a 56" blade that the 60" is very hard to cut with. I think he said he could set me up with a new "B" at a fair price.
@@templehillsawmill1748 yes I like sawing with a 56" saw it runs true.
My uncle owned a mill in Massachusetts in the 1940’s through the 60’s. He did mostly hardwoods for flooring and moldings. His was a 60” blade but it didn’t have the inserts. Loved watching the mill when he was cutting logs.
Super video! Like the maintenance videos, like the sawing videos! Keep up the good work!
Hey Mark & Eddie, This was dang interesting, Different aspect of sawing that is for sure. And I have to say, You always got someone who thinks they know more than you do Mark. Just can't leave well enough alone and got to bitch about something. Like my Grandma use to say, " If you don't have anything good to say, Don't say it" But that will fall on deaf ears.
Really enjoyed this video Mark, Thanks for sharing.
thank you Rich , great comment.
Since yall know what to do looks like everybody else will just have to get used to it. Slick new blade! No screaming! Quiet! Happy weekend! Blessings!
thanks Lewie.
Mark, love the spot you gave the plates for all to see. Thanks
glad you like it.
yes it pays to have a backup...i do with my generators,,,i think a bigger blade would be worp proned,,then a smaller one,,you have to think of heat...i saw some really big ones at some sawmills in tyler county Wv..but they were in the middle of a feed..logs were feed right down the middle..,course all they cut was cross ties, and posts,, no boards,,if there was they were rough cut..great looking blade MARK...
thanks.
You mention the teeth of the saw being razor sharp, I can absolutely attest to that, decades ago i was helping install a new blade on 10' resaw (band blade, not wheel) the blades came in from the shop bound with wire, one of the wires caught as we were taking tension off the folded over body of the blade, then sprung as we were trying to clear it. I didn't know i was cut until i looked at my arm and saw down through the skin and subcutaneous fat to muscle, the cut was so clean my body hadn't decided to bleed yet.
Glad to see y'all still being safe in all your efforts. Can't wait to see the new blade take on a stop sign.
Good morning Mark& Eddie thank you for the class of switching the saw blade. I'm glad you take the time to show fokes how to do
glad you liked it Harriet.
Grew up in sawmill in East Texas. On pine we average 95,000 ft day. We cut small Timbers for the treating industry. We ran solid tooth saws. Always ran water on saw. Carriage never stopped.
Enjoy your videos, however you are speaking to a large audience that does not understand sawmilling. It would be good if you explain to audience what tension in a saw is and what hammering is.
We normally bought six 72” saws at the time and ran them down to about 58” and sold them.
GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS
GOOD MORNING ☀️
HAPPY WEEKEND 🙏
Great video guys , good luck with the new blade , She cuts like butter
thank you.
I keep hearing, "Your blade, sir, will cut" in Doug Marcaida's voice.
We use a hammer on a large home made wrench to snug her up, not swinging to split wood 😂 I also mark the end of the shaft and the nut with a paint pen, then each day as we lube the mill I observe the mark. Congratulations of the new saw!
That blade sure does sing a great tune; and I wondered if you saw when the log rocked; that I noticed and thought there was bark under it! I have a band "custom DIY" mill that I can cut 3 foot Diameter x 22 foot log on. I have $15oo in it. I got 2 25 inch band wheels, 1 DBL 18 inch for drive and a Kohler 16 HP that I got for $70. All the pulleys and pillow blocks I got at wholesale from a friend that I know.
that sounds like a nice bandmill.
Smooth!!!! For some reason, I though that the blade guides were some kind of roller bearing; I guess I learned something new. It is always good to see you and Eddy getting the work done.
thanks Alan.
Great video, Thank-you for showing us more of the maintenance portion of the mill.
thank you.
New blades are always a plus but I'm sure that those are quite expensive! Enjoyed the video guys
thanks Gary , we will get the old blade hammered and new shanks & bits.
@@markgalicic7788 it's always a plus when ya can have a backup plan for the long haul.
thanks Mark and Eddie, just got back home after spending 9 days in the hospital, sure was nice to start watching your video this afternoon, missed them.
I hope everything's ok!
@@markgalicic7788 doing much better thank you, just a small set back, don't bounce back as good as we did 20 years ago, lol..
Congratulation Guys All smooth sawing ahead . I would never have guessed this is your first new blade, I would be sleeping at the mill tonight, just to look at it. 😀😃😄🙂🙃😉😊
Beautiful blade guys. Beautiful pine too. It's true. You got to spend money. To make money. It's a good investment for a " backup saw." Good work Mark & Ed. Hi ZZ. 😊😉👍❤️💜🙏
thanks Lawrence.
Mark, it even sounds like it is cutting much more smoothly than the original blade.
Cutting like each tooth is not just perfectly sharp but also evenly set giving an equal load all the way around and not part of the teeth carrying the load, somebody did an excellent job 👍
yes it does , they did a great job for sure.
What a difference a new makes,huh? New blade,new sound .❤
yes for sure.
Far be it from me to tell you how I think you should manage your mill. I appreciate your willingness to share your process with us viewerd and I leave all the decesions to you. I am happy for you and the aquisition of the new blade..be safe.
thanks Steve.
that baby was singing. a beautiful song
yes it was.
The blade installation is combination installing blades on my table and my band saw, interesting.
Hi Mark
Lovely new saw blade 👍 we have a German tungsten firewood blade on our saw we sent it to our local guy for a fettle & it’s even better now😊
Excellant video Mark. Have never seen a big blade like that changed on a saw mill. Interesting. Thanks.
thanks Murray.
Congrats, that new blade is a winner, I like how fast and smooth it cuts and there’s NO runout.
thanks Mack.
Good evening from Lincolnshire UK.
good evening Andrew.
Good morning from Rutland UK 🇬🇧
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………………Thanks for explaining what you did and why. I know nothing about saw milling, I just enjoy your videos!!
thank you.
So setting the guides depends on how the blade reacts and not feeler gage or a guide chart? The way you and Eddie know what the other is thinking is very refreshing
thanks Jeff , no you just get them as close as you can but never touch the blade.
Thanks for the logs Pete. They cut like butter with the new blade.
Very interesting guys, thanks for showing us how that blade is changed.
thank you , glad you liked it.
Yes! Definitely noticeably quieter - free running, cutting, and returning. Boards also look much smoother. Thanks!
yes it made a huge difference.
Really like your new saw blade. I'm not any kind of sawyer but do know blades like yours get tuned and shaped by skilled folks. Then they get used by skilled folks like you. I appreciate your patience with UA-cam trools and as I learned in my career, "NON CARBORUNDUM ILLIGITIMUS". Have a great day.
thank you , great comment.
Great video as usual. New blade makes a noticeable difference in the quality of the cuts. Steam show video was lovely. Have wonderful weekend. Patrick
thanks Patrick.
Thanks, Mark. Thanks, Eddie. Good stuff. Nice blade - cuts softwood sweet. Now you gotta get the old one sorted as a backup. But the Stop Signs in the meantime will be bigger. Thanks, guys. (Hooray for big Stop Signs!)
thank you.
I like the Boom! I like makin stop signs. I like the 22” log limit. I really like that new blade! You’ve got the world by the tail with this set up. Life is good so count your blessings and keep on bringing us dem videos. 🥸👍🛑✅❗️
Another very interesting video. Thank you Mark and Eddie.
thanks Brian.
I always wondered if the mill could fit a 60" blade and why you didn't run one. You explained it perfectly!
Excellent video.
thanks Chris , see you did listen lol!
Ahh that explains the mark at that position on the blades caused by the guide pins. I never knew they existed, but it does make sense
New and quiet smooth!
Awesome show, I really enjoy your maintenance shows, have done lots of it in the past
thanks Carl.
THANKS FOR SHARING 💪
Thanks for showing us how to change a saw blade. Looks like its cutting as it should.
yes it's sawing great.
Watching saw videos just got better :)
thanks Roger.
Dang near a whole box of saw bits in that saw! I love it.
Good informative video. Reminds me I need to take the blade off of my buzz saw and have it sharpened before I get into our woodpile this fall.
thanks Anthony , sharp is better.
That the first time I've ever seen the process thank you.
glad you liked it.
Six o’clock in the morning very nice getting new equipment changed a few of them blades as an apprentice mostly 48 inch your right about the hammer , knocking collers on to tight can compress the center of the blade and stretch the metal witch causes a slight wobble and takes the tension out over time as explained by my old foreman just snug it up pins do the driving nut just keeps it there , I’m still messing with the push bench been through the bearings new drive shaft blade shaft for the blade is next I’m going to put it on the lathe to see if it’s got any run out , you guys have a nice day
Looks and sounds great, nice job👏👌
thank you.
That new blade is an absolute beauty!!
What a pretty piece of steel
Great behind-the-scenes Vid! 😎😎👍👍
thank you.
Purdy saw blade guys! Purrs just fine 😀
I'm new to your channel. Your bringing back some great memories for me. Nothing like a new blade.
welcome to our channel Jeff , yes it's great to run a new blade.
Great close up camera work Eddie !
yes he did a great job.
Can't get a close shave with a dull blade nor a good, straight cut through those logs with an un-tuned blade. Love the sound of that sharp blade.
yes it does make a big difference.
running like manure through a Christmas turkey! thanks for bringing us along.
glad you liked it Dave.
Very interesting video Mark, Thanks for sharing
thanks Stephen.
Very very educational guys love the videos keep em coming
thanks David.
oh Mark you are doing so well and the blade is doing great I see the bottom of the log cuts even
Nice new blade. Wow, cuts smooth and wonderful.
thanks Richard.
Thanks for the video. Please stay safe and have a blessed day.
thanks Robert.
Nothing like a sharp blade!
yes for sure.
Hey Mark, awesome bade !!! That thing cuts like butter !!! I love your videos and I agree if people don’t Ike how you saw then don’t watch
New saw blade, 😊liked the install. Ordered the Boom sign, hope everyone can sign it. Happy New Year to everyone 🎉. Do you remove the saw-dust on and around the equipment? Can’t help myself I’m a neat freak 😅.
Like the Sekelbos music. Lekker boeremusiek.
Great video Mark and Eddie. Hope your both keeping well. Take care.
Great show 🎉🎉
interesting choice of music- originating from my neck of the woods
Thank you Mark thank you Eddie good to see that you saw blade it sound good
your welcome Chris.
Hi guys
Mark that blade goes really well like cutting butter with a hot knife
The old one goes to the machine shop for balance and sharpen
Tony
In my trade, we do the same thing replacing a precision grinding wheel. Great swap guys!
thanks Larry.
Great looking blade. Good luck guys
thanks Ken.
Good morning to all from SE Louisiana, 18 Aug 23.
Haven't even finished the video yet and I love it already
