South Carolina is underwater now! Unstoppable hurricane Ian flooded Myrtle beach

On Friday, September 30, Hurricane Ian made another landfall in coastal South Carolina, destroying apart piers and filling neighborhoods with calf-high water, after the storm caused major damage in Florida.
Ian's maximum sustained winds were 85 mph when it came ashore and battered the state with damaging winds, heavy rain and storm surge. Ian's center came ashore near Georgetown with much weaker winds than when it crossed Florida's Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
In Myrtle Beach, waves were pushing against the city's boardwalk tourist area, flowing over where thousands of tourists typically fill the wide sandy stretch.
Four piers along the coast, including two at Myrtle Beach, collapsed into the churning waves and washed away. Online cameras showed seawater filling neighborhoods in Garden City to calf level.
Before landfall, sheets of rain whipped trees and power lines and left many areas on Charleston's downtown peninsula under water by midday. A popular pier in the beach community of Pawleys Island collapsed and floated away.
Moisture from the remnants of Ian will impact East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky beginning late Friday. But as the path of Ian has shifted East, East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky are now expected to see less of an impact than initially expected.
The channel lists such natural disasters as:
1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, Volcanic eruption, Mud, Landslide, Avalanche;
2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological disaster,
3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire;
4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Tornado, Hail, Hurricane, Tsunami, Storm, Thunderstorm, Tempest.

I am there and we got more than 2 ft in our closed off garage and close to 3ft in the neighborhood. Our entire neighborhood was underwater. Broken fences, trees down, extensive flood damage...we have quite a mess to clean up. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
And Christ said your faith has healed you... Trust in the Lord.

@@dougfredricks2017 Christ didn’t do anything for them. You’re not helping.
how does that even get rebuilt? with all that water damage, do the entire neighborhood's homes need to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up? i just can't fathom how that all works. what about everyone with no flood insurance and no money? even if you had it, insurance companies probably won't be able to handle all this.

@@Automedon2 the prayers provided that shield of protection over my family and I. I am so sorry for the affected people of South Carolina. The houses should be made from Concrete Blocks and steel and not boards. Need to modified the building codes and get a few Jamaican masons to assist. We in Jamaica build most of our houses from block and steel.
It's crazy but they will rebuild the same way. One guy got smart in the panhandle of Florida and rebuilt with a monolithic concrete dome home. It took a direct hit from a bad hurricane that wiped out all his neighbors. Yet they will continue to build their stick homes on the coast and in tornado alley. Guess they never heard the story of the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf.
Jamaicans are everywhere lol
That don’t prevent flood damage at all. This a flooding event not wind

Ian brought strong winds and rain to the island. But, other than some downed trees, the island seems to have come out relatively unscathed.

Crazy damage. Very Sad. We hope most people evacuated. Alice and I hearts goes out for all that are suffering.
This is just to heartbreaking to watch with all these homes damaged and your yard filling with salt water. The homes built up look like they were saved from flooding water and even look like they weren't damaged. Building homes to withstand hurricanes is smart living near the ocean. All this damage in our sunshine state we love is to sad to watch. 😢
I don't know about anyone else but if you have to build your house a few feet off the ground that might be a clue you're in the wrong area!
I was in Charleston a couple years ago when we experienced heavy downpour for about an hour to the point the road was completely flooded. I believe the coastal cities are prone to flooding and should anticipate it when storms head there way
I mean only every coastal city from ancient times is underwater so…
The entire SouthEastern US minus the mountains is prone to flooding. We are literally on swamp land from the Mississippi delta to the eastern coast. It is why our roads are so bad and are constantly under construction. The land is just thin layer covering all the ground water.

I’m not sure what the surprise it. We have MANY flood zones with HIGH FEMA ratings.
Wow. Be more condescending....not everyone is as fortunate as you
Please remember yall this is the 3rd yes THIRD TIME Ian made landfall as a hurricane. 1st in Cuba, then 2nd Florida, and now S. Carolina. It's not an exaggeration to say the is record breaking horrible.
Its rapid intensification, the eye was 40 miles across unlike Charlie which was the tied hurricane for how fast winds were (1mph under a category 5) but Charlie's eye was only 5miles across. This was a big bad monster that once above land slowed down and just DUMPED TONS OF WATER on these people.
I realize it may seem like people have been telling you that the slow warming and acidification of the oceans was going to cause the hurricanes in the normal season to get disproportionately larger, more intense, slow above land and dump huge record breaking amounts of water and we keep telling you it's going to happen.
Eventually you have to realize it is the current reality. It is not the future.
Please take care everyone
There has been radioactive materials spilled into the ocean waters in Japan, and China, and various places where energy meltdowns occurred. That is what caused increased temperatures in the ocean waters 💧. It also caused many large whales, orcas, Dolphins and fish to die and beach.
Nuclear waste, not carbon emissions. Definitely sad situations because we need the energy for.heating homes and businesses. Meltdowns have been an ongoing problem that many have been trying to resolve.

To completely avoid hurricanes the ENTIRE east coast from Florida to Maine, plus everything from Texas east to Georgia on the coast would have to be COMPLETELY deserted. That's absurd. Don't be so ignorant. Hurricanes are enormous so they cover way too much area, but very rarely make direct impact in the same location. Big props for adding the cars in the thumbnail.
The entire south-southeast is gonna have to do what other countries like japan does and build seawalls to mitigate these storm surges. The walls don't need to be huge like for a tsunami but it wouldn't hurt to have something there like New Orleans kind of has. This obviously would help with the rain pouring down and the high winds but the storm surge from the ocean contributes a hell of a lot of water that's on the ground.
Charleston SC has a few sea walls.
Sea walls iffy and there is huge coast.
Japan mountain nature means sea walls don’t have to cover more than river valleys in most places. The cost of sea wall way to high with a low level of land on east coast and Florida and they fail to the strongest storms.
Might retreat from low areas instead
@@howarddamico1237 yeah the ones on white point gardens. Your referring to south of broad (SOB) they are called sea walls, I mean I doubt building a giant wall in the ocean will help...maybe it be strange looking that I know for a fact 😂
@@howarddamico1237 I was talking about shoreline walls but the other commenter above stated that people living away from the shore is the real solution to this but both are not viable. I meant shorter walls like what you can see in Japan on the coast. Moving that many people inland would be far more expensive than building what's needed on the coast so that's why I said walls would be good. At least to mitigate most of what the storm surge winds push in from the ocean. You can't really stop rain so flooding from that would still be inevitable, but the large majority of flooding associated with hurricanes is the ocean itself. As for the river outlets being a weak point for surges, they'd have to buffer the banks as well. $$$$$ but what other solutions are realistic? Having to rebuild every year this happens is immensely costly. I would assume it's still less costly than moving tens of millions of people and infrastructure. The west can't even rehome all the fire victims successfully and thats not even close to the amount of people impacted by the souths hurricane season.
This is horrifying to watch 😭god bless all I'm praying hard
