this video actually worked! I prefer getting the microfiber towel really soapy and then wiping all the dirt and oils off the window, then using a dollar store shower squeegy, but it has produced results that are acceptable.
I started doing this technique last year. I discovered it accidentally after the futility of Windex-type products. But I use a telescoping sponge, like those used for car washes (bought mine at Harbor Freight) so there's less bending and reaching on higher windows. I never even squeegee- just hose it off and let it dry. Very simple technique and very effective.
the dish soap has "sheeting" so when things air dry it leaves very few water spots. If your windows have a nasty film on top of hand prints (2nd floor usually has tree sap) you can add some TSP and a splash of ammonia or white vinegar to help cut that better. If it's been a long time between cleanings you may have to do each one several times. I usually use an extendable car wash broom.
You'll get less splotches from the squeegee. As two water drying will leave a mineral residue. Unless your water is purified to the point that is unhealthy to drink. Then it should dry spotless. But don't drink it. It will leach vitamins and minerals out of your body.
Tap the wet screen or wipe with a dry cloth BEFORE you move it over to the clean window. Less chance of water splat when moving screen toward clean outside window.

Professional Window Cleaner here... I like to end with the screen door open. People will want to walk out the door to check out your work and if you close it yourself you can make sure it doesn't make a mess. I also make sure to dry the screen as any wind or animal running into it could blow water onto your nice clean window. You should have a second dry towel to remove the soap and water from around the edges of the window after you squeegee. Any water left at the top will run down the glass. For doing the inside glass the towel can be wrung out a lot, you do not need a lot of water to squeegee. Leaves less water on the floor and window sill. Other than that, everything else looks fine.
I use a dawn solution to clean pretty much everything. Microfiber towels are great on windows too. Never thought to use the car squeegee (water blade) on windows.
Thanks, Dawn is not available in Australia any more, but it was the best!! So, its normal dish soap. A hint when those annoying Telemarketers call to ask if you are having trouble with windows (micro soft). Yep, just ask them about a streak free finish (use Dawn and water).
Why not? I lived in Colorado Springs and washed windows in 20-degree weather. All you need to do is add some isopropyl alcohol to the water so it doesn't freeze!
I hose the window, put Dawn on a cheap, kitchen sponge mop, scrub the window, and hose it off. I never use a squeegee. It dries streak free. Every time! Plus the mop reaches high. No climbing.😀
Been using a squeegie for years and, you're right, it prevents a lot of arguments. Here's a tip for you. If you can take your screens off, use your leaf blower to dry them off. If you can't remove them, use the exhaust from your vacuum or even a hair dryer. Only takes a minute.
This is a great "hack" tried it today much better and quicker than a window vac, an extra tip if you can get the angle of the blade as close to the window as possible it takes more water away, it took me 30 min to do my windows rather than 45 min. Good dad tip.. 👍😉
I do a similar thing, except I just fill a spray bottle with the same solution. Spray, scrub, spray, squeegee. Works very similarly. Hose spray for screens.

Window washer here: Two types of window washing Commercial and residential Commercial doesn't care about edges. High end Residential cleans frame and window. Many styles to wash windows Here is mine mostly 1. Good dish detergent does matter. I use Dawn. 2. Scrub window with the soapy water and a blue Unger brush from Big Box home improvement designed for windows. Buy 0000 steel wool and go over window for bug spots and light paint if necessary . We also use razor blades but if you don't know what you are doing you can scratch the glass. We always use a fresh razor blade on a wet window Re wash window Take tarry cloth cotton towel or a micro fiber towel not washed in fabric softener and wipe top edge and side edge of window with a totally dry towel. Damp towels leave streaks. Fabric softener stops towel from absorbing water (bad) Take a squeegee from Big Box Unger, or Ettore make sure squeegee is wiped dry. Take dry edge of side window and squeegee across window. When finished wipe "edge of window with Totally dry parts of towel. When squeegee starts leaving lines replace the squeegee blade. And yes do in the shade or don't allow water to dry on the window or it can leave a streak. Edges of widow frames can be chalky especially vinyl window frames so avoid touching frame of chalky window frames with your dry towel.
Yup. Never got into micro, actually very linty. Few window MF work but my old hucks and wife beaters work great. I mostly do new construction homes and commercial. I have to tap wash. Squeegee and WFP is a waste of time on new home glass. Occasionally I will trade but my spot free tap wash is rain x carwash spot free. Did a few vids on how it dries. Yes, direct sun I may have to WFP or use a spritz and wipe the spots, usually on lower inch of pane
What about streak-free INSIDE? You can't have all the water mess inside the house. It's so frustrating to get everything clean outside and see all the streaks inside.
Washing windows takes practice. Having the right equipment such as a safe ladder is essential. ( I have foot adjusters available from J, Racesteins and arm stabilizers. If you don't have the right equipment for second floor windows outside hire a professional to do out only. Its cheaper than hiring a CNA to take care of you the rest of your adult life. And Wash the Inside first as the water can leak between the upper and lower window sashes on traditional windows. And its easier to touch up the inside as you don't need a ladder but remember if you touch your glass with a damp cloth it will streak and the sun reveals it all. For me its easier to touch up athe inside and you don't always know if that spot is inside or out. Believe me that the OCDC window washer has to learn when to walk away from a window as there are no perfect window washers and no perfect windows and what looks great in the shade can be terrible with the sun glaring on it. Always only touch your windows with a dry cloth and don't over wipe it only the edges or a drip. If your water evaporates before you squeegee it off you need to wet the window again and do it over. Squeegee blades wear out and start showing lines if that happens replace the blade. Don't buy a take off squeegee get a Unger or Ettore squeegees. Google or Go Duck Go professional window supplies.

If I could make a suggestion…get one those containers (like an old used miracle Gro container) that attaches to the hose. Fill it with soap and spray soapy water on then lift up on the lever for clear water and rinse. and release It’s a lot quicker and can reach high windows. Works like a charm. Give me a 👍if you like that.
Defining a good idea, we had tried something similar but we have very hard water here so it left water spots. In areas with softer water this would work well.
Thank you for sharing. I will give it a try. Our sliding door always has streaks and fingerprints. Do you have a recommendation for cleaning solar panels mounted on the roof? I have tried the product that attaches to the garden hose but doesn't work as well as I would like.
I would use rinsless car wash product. Also put a good coat of car wax or sealant on it. Will help keep glass clean with just water or rain. Try a spray on wax. Easy to use, and use very very little. It goes a long way.
Or you can install Pella sliders . They have the screens on the inside of the doors. They stay so much cleaner. I have 5 sets on the front of my house and I can wash all 20 glass doors inside and out in under 30 minutes. I have been using the same professional squeegee and what they call lambskin washer on the glass for over 35 years and they're still in great shape. Buy quality like Ettore , take care of it and it will last forever. I was taught by a professional window cleaner who works on high-rises how to mix the solution this video does pretty good better than most but you only need a couple drops not even four or five just a few. And use good equipment it's not that expensive . I bought mine in 1981 .
Tip : get inside with screen still wet, open door from inside blow screen dry (from inside blowing water out) with a leaf blower. This will help from getting glass wet again . Bathroom glass I use 25% alcohol with 75% Distilled water in a spray bottle makes glass look brand new :) Joel "One take adventures with Joel & Deb"
I have always washed my windows, including the balcony door inside and out with washing liquid and a dash of white vinegar using a soft cloth and squeegee. Before commencing I brush all the windows first. Prior to investing in a Chamois leather, I used scrunched newspapers to dry. 😊
I have had a lot of luck with hot water soaked in a detail rag and wiping down my windows. Then I go behind with a dry detail rag. It comes out streak free. I do it on my mirrors and my glass doors. I use it on my cars too.
Good ol' trick and it works well but I suggest adding a dash of vinegar to your solution, particularly in polluted area. It releases pollutants and dissolves mineral particles that tend to stick to the glass. Thank you.
I can’t believe it!! This washed the 5 sliders in my living room in under 20 minutes! It actually took about a minute or two per window! I have dreaded washing these windows for about 15 years, and only managed to do it about once or twice a year. Now I wont mind doing them any time they’re dirty. The only thing I did differently was I used a dust mop from Dollar Tree that pivots both ways to wash them so I just stand there and move the mop back and forth instead of my arms. What a back saver. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
If you own a dehumidifier, keep the water from it. It is essentially distilled water. Wash your windows with soapy water like in the video, rinse off with dehumifier water. Do not squeegee. It dries to a flawless gleam. No need to squeegee. Same washing a car.
@@johnf6267 Quoted from the Office for Science and Society, McGill University: "The water the dehumidifier collects is actually very clean water; comparable to distilled water. ... The condensed water is pure because when the water originally evaporated into the air, it left its impurities and minerals behind. So providing your coils are clean, you could collect the dripping water and drink it."
I used to have a café with a large window to the floor ,every morning we washed it with dish soap and flannel,In hot clean water and dried it off with all the kitchen towel or a clean linen cloth .my windows never had streaks and my customers always asked what we used to keep them so clean ,when you think about it when you drink from a glass you get lipstick on it and fingerprints et cetera and yet when we clean it we use hot soapy water and get a sparkling result every time it’s the same principle
Love this! My only problem is that I’m cleaning doctors offices and they have big glass door windows so I have to do inside and outside, so it’s a little too messy for the inside part. No matter what I do it’s always a streaky mess! Will be trying to do it with a little less wetness and maybe thatll do the trick!👏🏼
Start with the screen on the other side, then you can tap out the muddy water with the back of your fingers. If you leave the muddy water in it looks bad. I’ve been cleaning windows professionally for 12 years. Also angle your squeegee so the stiction of the dawn forces a line down the un squeegeed side instead of up to the squeegeed side. Use a cotton rag to soak up excess water and a microfiber to polish the edge of the glass where the cotton rag left a tiny smudge.

All very good tips, thank you!
What was the name of the squeggee?
@@deanbean9227 His name was Rick....
@@BIG_DRU Haha
Very easy to remove the screen door and set it aside - just lift the screen door in the frame and pull the bottom out first -
I use a dawn solution to clean pretty much everything.
Greg, l read Dawn was apparently renamed Fairy, made by the same company. I'm in Australia too.
I love this! Today’s high is 29 degrees so no window washing for me! It can wait til spring
Why not? I lived in Colorado Springs and washed windows in 20-degree weather. All you need to do is add some isopropyl alcohol to the water so it doesn't freeze!
Did this for years on my store windows. He’s absolutely right.
Microfiber towels on windshields are awesome. Puts your windshield like it comes off showroom floor. Try it
I hose the window, put Dawn on a cheap, kitchen sponge mop, scrub the window, and hose it off. I never use a squeegee. It dries streak free. Every time! Plus the mop reaches high. No climbing.😀
That car blade works great on cars also.
I've been using one for over 30 years.
It really cuts down on your drying time.
I use it on auto glass, but never on paint.
Hmmm...maybe that's why it's called a CAR BLADE.
My husband has been using that for years in his window cleaning business. He use to use lemon joy until they changed the formula.
I had my windows professionally cleaned recently, and they used Dawn and a squeegee also. The windows looked incredible when they were finished. 👍
Dawn & alcohol
@@maryjarrell5824 If I use alcohol, the windows will never get cleaned.
@@maryjarrell5824 ... add TSP and / or white vinegar to help with tree sap. Wet the house first or you may leave "clean streaks" on the siding as the solution runs down.
Shouldnt use tsp on or near anything painted unless your going to be painting it afterward. The "clean streaks" is your paint being removed
@@CJ_412_ .... gotta pick your battles and take precautions as necessary. At the concentration level I use this doesn't seem to be an issue with paint removal.
I knew the first.commemt would be about water pressure..lmao. Yet another video using the all incredible Dawn. Great vid thx man!
I used to work janitorial work. We would put a few drops of kerosene into the water with soap. I cleaned windows at restaurants on Cannery row in beautiful Monterey California. Don't mix bleach and ammonia , it cuts grease fast but it is hard on the nose.
"Hard on the nose?"
It'll KILL ya! Produces Ammonium Chloride gas. That stuff WILL. KILL. YOU.
@@imdeplorable2241 now you tell me, where you 50 years ago when I was doing janitorial work as a summer job. I was all alone in the restaurant trying to get the grease off of the floors. I mixed bleach and ammonia with water. When left there and got on my bike my nose and eyes would be running like a faucet. I am lucky I made it out alive.
@@sagacioussage899 ... that's been known for years. That combination was used in WWII to "gas" the enemy. That said, people in the food industry commonly use bleach to sanitize things and ammonia to cut grease so I guess it's a common mistake to mix them, until someone with half a brain explains why we don't!
It’s more than hard on the nose. If I remember my chemistry correctly mixing ammonia and bleach results in what was called mustard gas during the First World War.
Before I wash my windows ,I use a dampened paper towel to get the dirt off . Why would I want extra work by cleaning a dirty window . I live in Brooklyn New York and hardly see anyone on my block clean their windows !Thanks for the tips .👍😉
My optometrist turned me onto dishwashing liquid to clean eyeglasses. He said that dishwashing soap is specially designed to leave no streaks on glassware, so it's perfect for eyeglasses. And it really works, too
Yes! I use it for my glasses as well!
But where do you get the tiny squeegee to wipe down your eyeglasses? Maybe the mini-mart? Asking for a friend...😊
Someone asked about getting smoke residue off. I used that new product “Wet and Forget” on the exterior windows, screens, and vinyl ceiling and walls of a smoked up lanae. It took going over it all three times, but there were no smelly, dangerous chemicals involved.
No rinsing of soap residue? Squeegees are great but don't work well in corners, etc.. Still some hand-wiping necessary.
Great video..In the UK we love a bit of FAIRY LIQUID wether it be indoor or outdoor ... the ultimate grease, dirt and crap remover that works on pretty much everything and leaves a lovely finish aslong as its washed off properly
YES, avoid fabric softener on your window rags!
THANK YOU!
As a professional window washer. The Best dish soap is sunlight original. 5 gallon bucket a “squirt” of soap. Don’t push so hard . And they make professional squeezes of pretty cheap

yes, keep the squeegee clean and dry.
The most simple and easy-to-use video thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Looks good but it also looks like you need to replace the screen and tighten it up a bit in the replacement process. The screen should not be lazy and lean on your window.
Absolutely correct! One of my daughters friends accidentally ran into it. A “how to repair a screen” video is waiting to be edited and will be up soon.

Dawn is great for car Windows inside and outside. Works great on cleaning eyeglasses too.
PS. I don’t have tinted car windows.
Sure do! ua-cam.com/video/8kvwqAtcA28/v-deo.html&t

I would use rinsless car wash product. Also put a good coat of car wax or sealant on it. Will help keep glass clean with just water or rain. Try a spray on wax. Easy to use, and use very very little. It goes a long way.
I've been cleaning windows like this for 999 of my 1000 years of life. 😂😂
90% people enter and hit the glass windows thought it were open 🤣🤣, Btw, nice tips 👍👍👍👍
Very informative video! Just one question; "Did you use a microfiber cloth to apply the soapy water?
Thats what most people recommend, but I used whatever cloth or towel I can find.
I’d use anything that doesn’t “shed” tiny fibres.
Very GOOD!! I have a bank to go clean tomorrow.am gonna try !

I'm surely doomed. I don't have window glasses.
I have always washed my windows, including the balcony door inside and out with washing liquid and a dash of white vinegar using a soft cloth and squeegee. Before commencing I brush all the windows first. Prior to investing in a Chamois leather, I used scrunched newspapers to dry. 😊
So, how do you clean the inside of the sliders that easy?
I wish cleaning the tracks was this easy!
You're in luck! I just posted a video showing how to do the inside windows yesterday: ua-cam.com/video/nQMfYNhop-M/v-deo.html
Thanks for the tip; I always have trouble with streaky windows.
How does the squeegee not leave streaks when it wipes the soapy water off?
If you use a small amount of dish soap, it wont.
I have had a lot of luck with hot water soaked in a detail rag and wiping down my windows. Then I go behind with a dry detail rag. It comes out streak free. I do it on my mirrors and my glass doors. I use it on my cars too.
Great job, Dad.
Thanks!
Good ol' trick and it works well but I suggest adding a dash of vinegar to your solution, particularly in polluted area. It releases pollutants and dissolves mineral particles that tend to stick to the glass. Thank you.
Finally. Using soap and water is the best way.
At a motel that I worked at we added isopropyl alcohol to the window cleaner and it worked great, better than soap.
If you own a dehumidifier, keep the water from it. It is essentially distilled water. Wash your windows with soapy water like in the video, rinse off with dehumifier water. Do not squeegee. It dries to a flawless gleam. No need to squeegee. Same washing a car.
It is not distilled water and it is dirty
Thanks for sharing!!
I'm literally going out to do this right now. Thanks!
Enjoyed from Texas!
Check out our latest video, it shows how to do the inside without the mess.
For the inside windows I put the DW liquid and water in a spray bottle. Use a non-scratch scourer, put a towel under the window, and squeegee it off.
You can use a window cleaning mop too
Start with the screen on the other side, then you can tap out the muddy water with the back of your fingers.
If you want to clean a vehicle windshield really really well, get 4/0 steel wool and rub it dry and then rinse off any steel fibers left.
The best cleaner is white vinegar and cotton cloth (cut old bed sheets)
Do you add water to the vinegar? Thank you.
@@suemccann2010 ... yes, use warm water and a cup of white vinegar. A splash of dish soap will prevent water spots.
