    The Kratos workout: thebioneer.com/kratos-workout/
Check out Grant's channel: / grantstevensma
In this video, I return to the themed "character" videos with a Kratos workout!
Kratos has the physique of a bodybuilder and the strength of a powerlifter/strongman. He exerts this power in an extremely functional manner: wrestling monsters, pulling sleds, and launching his axe.
As you guys know, I like to combine training modalities in unique ways. This way, we can build a routine to emulate pretty much any physique or skillset. My take on a Kratos workout, is to use a "powerbuilding" structure by combining heavy lifts with lighter, higher-rep work. But rather than using powerlifting and bodybuilding, we're going with a slightly more "functional" approach.
Not to say that powerlifting isn't functional, of course! Simply, that we're using tools that are more commonly associated with functional training. Tools like kettlebells and Bulgarian bags... but also logs, rocks, and even cars.
This Kratos workout is less like powerbuilding, then, and more like "strongman high intensity functional training." But that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue...
Hope you enjoyed this God of War workout, gang! It was hotly requested.

I'm a long time fan of this channel.
I think that Kratos could have benefited from a longer video, going over some aspects that I think this one missed
      Those being:
      1) Throwing-specific training. All that powerbuilding won't necessarily translate into a better throw with the Leviathan Axe
      2) Combat training: I think there are three aspects to Kratos's fighting, those being weapon combat, wrestling, and boxing. I would have loved to see that explored in more depth.
What we got was powerbuilding with some more functional aspects.
The program is nice. Maybe include some more instructions on how to scale it down - eg the pull up/push up reps are pretty high, I don't know if most people can do that many.

You mentioned around 0:45 that it is canon that Kratos lifts heavy weights to build his physique and there is a logical reasoning to it. Unlike scrawny Baldur, Kratos was born a normal human who was granted deific status as the story progressed. Baldur's strength comes from his lineage, and same goes for Atreus.
Basically as a spartan and a general - he relied upon human strength to win in war.

I heavily agree with your take on this. Seems particularly very "real world" functional, as you do need varying aspects of strength, but not some huge amount that hits in every possible thing you'd see in your life. It's just a very balanced (as per usual for Bioneer) discipline that covers a laborous and long term naturalist approach, as well as more specific things for weapon control that Kratos himself would need (this type of description applies to every BN video, really, but it's always worth pointing out)

    • @sporkcunt8100
