    In the e-tron we just use the app from indoors about 10-15 minutes before departure time. We don't worry about eating into range as journeys are mostly quite short, meaning we don't have to be plugged in to use it. It takes about 1 or 2 percent. Remote defrost without leaving an engine running on the driveway is one of the best things about driving electric. 👍

    I do mine from the house on the Kia app. Why, because unlike some we don’t have any set routine. 10 mins before we leave I turn the air on on and the car is toasty seat and steering wheel is warm. Simple.

      Same here. As I’m packing my bag, I kick off the pre-condition from my phone. I finish getting ready and, when I get to the car, the screens are clear and cabin is toasty. Takes about 1% of battery. I did have it on a schedule at first, but I don’t always leave at the same time.

    As a new and frustrated KIA EV6 owner this is interesting…I believe the KIA and this Ionic, in many respects to be a very similar car with lots of shared technology, however KIA as yet have not been able to solve some heating related issues particularly the remote heating through the KIA app…it doesn’t work ..the suggestion by KIA to date seems to be that the issue is software related. I wonder if any Ioniq 5 forums are reporting any similar issues. Great video by the way.

  • @paulkelly967
    @paulkelly967 2 роки тому +1

    It’s great to see the pre-heating working properly on the Ionic 5 as it gives us owners of the Kia EV6, which has effectively the same car software and app, hope that Kia will make it work soon. I think I am far from alone in finding that nothing will induce the EV6 to pre-heat the windscreen and interior - only the rear window and mirrors.
    To help us track the level of success of Kia’s future fixes it would be helpful to know whether your car needs to have the car charging for the windscreen pre-heating to work, or is it adequate to have a charging cable attached with power available, or can it work just from the internal battery with no cable attached.

    • @MrEV
      @MrEV  2 роки тому +2

      To be honest, IONIQ 5 is extremely glitchy with the timed pre-heating. I only have to look at it strangely or sneeze when I plug it in for it to not work!
      In answer to your question, it will do timed climate control as long as I don’t unlock the car for some reason after plugging in. I’ve also found it to fail on the charging timer if it starts and then I turn on the timer using the app.
      I’m trying to collate all this info to make a video about it but I’m hoping Hyundai fix all this before I get around to it!

Or does it actually have to be charging?

    So this morning I started the climate control from the app about 5 minutes before I was going to leave. I went to get in my car and the climate control was still running and I was not able to disconnect the cable I guess because the temp did not reach what I had programmed it for. Apart from that those with a garage could help if it wasn't full of junk but has space for the car. After the frozen rain of the other week, my Zoe window heaters melted it off in no time, the car having been out of the garage that day. The battery heating is a feature to be used and instructions say while charging. i wonder if there's a shortcut to that? The battery was flagged up to be cold for my whole journey one time. No discernible power constraint on the winding country roads to the Solway coast?

    TBH on a crisp frost morn, I would be quicker with de-icer and a scraper. The car would be fine to get in by then too and I would be well up the road............I m able-bodied admittedly and happy walking dogs in all weathers...Each to their own though.....Saying that once in a every great while I guess touching a phone / car fob might be useful (might).................

      I wouldn’t have time for that on a frantic school morning!

      @@MrEV Fair enough. I have done my share of school mornings. Having had three kids all under 5 and two Labs (from puppies) at one point been through the wringer in that regard. I saw defrosted in 12 minutes and can say that in less than 5 I would have had the kids in the car, ice scrapped and be off even if that was with the Labs too (once kids out of prams). Even if the app always worked (assume they do now) I would still end up giving it a quick swipe to get runs off the side glass (whatever)...........Each to their own as say but I don't remember wrapping up particularly for the exercise and probably got told to turn to turn the heating up going along..............Worth the vid as probably end up using it if had it (maybe) but personally no biggie to say the v least, for me.......

    Start pumping out more videos, we need you to earn more YT revenue so Flaviana won't get you to sell the car! haha I'm sure there is lots of cool content you can make with the Ioniq 5

    Or...You could suggest that Mrs. EV scrape the windscreen for you. Then you might see some real frost!

    This does not work on a KIA EV6!!! You can get HRW, mirrors and steering wheel to heat, but the HVAC will NOT heat the car!!!!
    The KIA crApp looks very similar to the Hyundai one you were showing.

    Could you help me understand if it's better to use my Waitrose card or Morrison to scrape off the ice.

      Morrisons for the Leaf, Waitrose for the IONIQ 5.
