Yeah I agree, as good as it is for newer players to get to the big reveals in the game a few dozen hours in, playing for years before getting this bomb dropped on you was truly something else
I was using Valkyr for this quest when it first came out, immediately slapped the Scar sigil on her right shoulder as soon as I got it. Haven't taken it off her eight years later.

I love watching people discover The Second Dream because in some tiny way, I relive my own feelings experiencing it for the first time. When Marco started playing Warframe, I hoped that he would stay with it to play the quests. Digital Extremes made something truly special. I'm beyond delighted to see another Tenno take that emotional journey that so many of us already have. For a free-to-play looter shooter, The Second Dream took Warframe to a height that few others have been able to barely touch. Does hearing the "This is what you are" motif make me tear up? You bet your forma it does, Tenno!
This song is SO fucking important to me, and the fact that that instrumental plays EVERY TIME you go back there always feels special. There's always some purpose to it even when you're just going in to look at the room, I would sometimes go in there just to hear he song and it would just envelop me entirely. It's such a special song. As for the song itself, in the vocal version I always like to note the lone woman's voice echoed in this call-and-response by a chorus of children. They never sing at the same time as her, they're separated from her but they hear her. It's like you said, the Tenno, sequestered in these pods, all alone but connected. She calls out to them at the start of the game when she wakes you from your slumber, and then when this quest happens, the Tenno can finally call back. It's so special.
I love getting the tile set seeing the cradle just laying there but i do wonder did the other tenno in the other pods just die through out time maybe from the stalker or are we just the last in that pod group to wake up
I think in canon, among all the acting Tenno, only one has awakened, though of course from a gameplay persepctive that is not the case.@@shanedaley6236
"What IS all this??" It's Warframe, going harder in every way than a free game has any business doing. Giving you the character creator after like 100 hours of gameplay is such a ridiculously mind-blowing moment. PLaying or watching this quest still moves me, even after dozens of times.
I personally also found the Second Dream to be mindblowing, but the Sacrifice is my favorite because of a single quote which also relates to taking away someone's pain. That single quote I will never forget.
@@bthsr7113 They didn't need to with dialogue, that line was the only thing I could think of at the final moment of Whispers in the Walls. Such a beautiful moment.
@@bthsr7113 I mean, yeah, that's... the point? That's the beauty of it, that we are helping Loid see the love Albrecht could never adequately express to him?
It's so hard to put into words the feeling the Second Dream evoked on its release. Players like me were casually farming missions for actual literal YEARS without a care in the world, with all the previous lore acting more as set dressing than a cohesive story. With The Second Dream, DE literally changed the game. From this moment forward, people expected more out of Warframe, with answers to questions we didn't even know we had bubbling up from deep below the game we all assumed was so simplistic. This is the moment that turned Warframe from a fun space shooter to something worth taking seriously as a piece of dramatic storytelling, as well as the first step to creating one of the most interesting combat systems games have to offer.
The Second Dream is when I became convinced that this game is going to hold a special place in my heart. The music, the story, the lore, it all just keeps me coming back.
It's been so long since I seen this moment. This was such a massive deal in 2015 that it still hits me hard in the feels when I see it. I started Warframe back in 2013 just after the card mod system was implanted and quickly played 100 hours and bought into the game with a founders pack. Warframe back then was pretty straight forward with so much mystery in the setting, we always wanted to know more, speculated about what the warframes were, what the tenno are, who the lotus is, and then after two years... This... this incredible story mission dropped. It really cemented that warframe wasn't just your average live service grind-a-thon, it had a heart, and it wanted to show it to you. Even with all the faults the game has, there is these incredible moments burred deep within it, underneath all the game systems and side modes. Even though I don't to play it much anymore, the experiences i had with it was well worth the $150 I paid to it back in 2013, happy in knowing I helped DE keep the lights on so they can give us these fantastic moments.
When I saw "musical let's play" I imagined that he would focus entirely on the song that played during the main moment rather than the game changing event that's just occured
Man I remember me and my friends playing this back in the day. This was the point where Warframe turned from just another free to play title to a triple A game. Still my favorite quest in the game.
Its... hard to describe this quest on release. This mission was released approximately 2 years after I've started. Two years passed and I thought I was playing suits of armor. Two years passed, and I was greeted with a customization screen. This was such a huge moment 1000 hours in.
What other game can just hit you with a character creation screen dozens or even hundreds hours in, right? I remember just playing this game for the grind and art style and then BOOM suddenly there is a story. Playing through these quests as they came out was such an experience. I mean, it still is, but nowadays i expect my mind to be blown away.
I've been playing Warframe since closed beta, nothing gives me quite the same level of pride as the way that this random community of strangers playing the same video game from all over the world work together to do their best not to spoil the game's story for anyone who takes it up.
The fact it just plays whenever you walk in is just lovely. Sometimes when doing a few missions or whatever you can just sit there and listen whenever you need it and it’s just such a lovely piece to be able to experience it whenever it’s just beautiful in a way I cannot describe
6:31 THE BUGS UGH, I wish they fixed it... Congratulations on finishing the tutorial! This is the seminal point for the game's cinematic main story quests. The next quests on the line will just keep getting better.
Warframe has absolutely fantastic music direction. It fits with the context of what's going on so well. This mission is case in point. The music, the gameplay and the atmosphere all fit together perfectly. I had a similar reaction to yours. I just sat speechless for a good amount of time, logged out of the game and spent the rest of the day trying to collect my thoughts. It's one of the most profound moments in gaming history.
12:20 It's amazing to hear you commentate on the music I've loved for years. I was there when the Second Dream quest first released, sitting in voice chat playing through that pivotal moment with friends, being amazed at how incredible Warframe's first "cinematic quest" was, and laughing at all the bugs Warframe has right after a new update. I imagined that the music in the transference room was special because of the memories and how amazing that quest was back in 2015. It was such a huge turning point for Warframe, all wrapped up in an important time period in my life. But this song is special for more than just my own experience. It's amazing hearing you explain how meaningful the song was to you, in a completely different time and place in your life. It makes me feel like there's real value in the entertainment we enjoy the most. I find so many people who dismiss the meaning and power of video games, or even of art in general. I've been struggling with disappointment and a feeling of isolation because I've had a hard time finding people, especially men, who can express themselves and enjoy the finer points of incredible art. So many people either don't care or refuse to accept how profound and meaningful entertainment can be. It's refreshing and profound to hear someone else who understands and appreciates the meaning and power behind art. It feels calming to know someone else sees and appreciates the same things I do. I love your reaction at 6:25, when you finally realize what the game just did. I've helped dozens of people get past the early game of Warframe, and experience that same moment of realization. Paraphrasing the words of SkillUp, It's an incredible masterstroke scored with one of the most powerful pieces of video game music ever. One of the best questing experience ever. Here's an amazing bug, that was still in the game the last time I played: Go into the transference room and let the music start. Then open up the menu and select arsenal or navigation. The music will play in your entire ship until you select a mission or walk back through the music trigger in the transference room door. If I'm tweaking my loadout, I'll use that "bug" to enjoy this music when I'm messing around in the orbiter.
Bro your reflections connected with my feelings on this revelation and song so deeply. I completely agree about the parallels. It feels like the Tenno is a representation of how there is something deeper and more beautiful and sacred in all of us. And the revelation that one experiences when they discover there is more to who they really are and it’s more spiritual and beautiful than they could have imagined. I think it’s part of why this story connects with people on a level they cannot describe. It truly is a masterstroke.
THIS , this is were Warframe truly began , telling incredible stories. Every other major quest is compared to the peek , of years of creation that is the second dream. But what is yet to come is incredible in it's own way. And i love every one of the quests , each tells a story, each for a different person but in a way, also for all of us. This is what you are ,from now to whatever Warframe takes you through. Keep enjoying tenno!
Welcome to the real game. Fr tho this is one of the most powerful moments I've ever had in a game. All this time you're begining to wonder what you are, who you are, from the start you're just thrown into it with minimal information and 100 hours in just blindsided by a character creator. Just like all the happy chemicals. DE is amazing about telling you just enough to draw you in deeper. Its fantastic, this grand story of very literal self discovery. Uplifting and dark in all the right ways.
1:51 is my favorite scene in gaming once that hand touches your Warframe and see the void pulse bring it back to life. With the fantastic music. It brings tears to my eyes.
Always nice to see someone finish the prologue This is what you are as a song and the second dream are just so special and it's nice to see that it still holds up for what it is and what it means
The story of this game hits so hard for those who played this game over the years. This is not only about the character inside of the game but also about the player. You are tenno, you wield the power of warframe just like the operator. The game itself is your second dream.
...and you've only scratched the surface, Tenno. You have a loooooong road ahead with even more awesome moments. Enjoy all of them. We'll be watching. 👍🥰
Bro. That is EXACTLY how I felt after my first playthrough. That quest, when it dropped, was what cemented my love for this game and company. I just sat in awe for at least an hour. I’m so happy you enjoyed it brother. Can’t wait to see you get to the others.
This was the moment that turned Warframe from a fun game into one of my top 5 favorite games - single handedly. When that character creation screen popped in with the music after all that prior buildup, there's no going back from that moment. I think we all Tenno pretty much had the same experience you had. It'll forever be my favorite moment in gaming.
This is What You Are will pretty much always be the best song in Warframe, though there are tons of contenders. Throughout the game as you have seen they use This is What You Are as a lemotiff all the time. my favorite version of the song is the one that plays after the Lotus leaves, where it gains an extra section at the end. The song begins as normal, with a motherly voice singing, calling for her children to follow, followed by a chorus of children, guided by her, connected, whole, and in sync. But the new version adds a second half where it plays the first part where the mother sings again, but without her voice, she's gone. What follows is another chorus of children, disorganized, out of sync, and lost.
There's something so emotional about Second Dream for me. Both the song and the storyline. I can't really explain it, but it never fails to make me tear up. It was such a wonderful experience.
This was one of the most poignant moments I've experienced in a vid game ... and this in a game that is primarily a looter/shooter. The Warframe devs are very talented game designers.
I've always felt that the song shows the taps into the spiritual but also kind of collapses it. To me, it says that I don't really need to worry about all that--I am this; whatever masks I may wear, I am some definite entity and the song recognizes that without demanding that I learn to drop the mask. It is an unconditional affirmation of identity. When I hear it, I feel similarly inspired. Same goes for the "Dream" line from the first cutscene. Thinking about them helps me to focus on what I'm doing rather than worrying about what people are thinking of me. I know who I am; I know who I want to be.
December 2nd 2015. To see you doing the same reaction as i did brings back the shock and awe I felt almost 10 years ago. Thanks for that. Still playing it to this day. I might have took some break but I didn't stop loving this game.
Still one of THEE greatest video-game reveals of all time to me! I remember it was like 2am when I got the reveal and just silently freaking out (so I didn’t wake anyone, ironically). The music that plays just transcends the whole quest experience. Gosh I love this game!
This is the pinnacle warframe moment. Its the point where you become so invested in the game. Where all the storytelling comes together. The visual spectacle, the audio.
i am so exited for him to do the main story quests they are all so good. You should do it in prep for warframe 1999 because that quest is gonna be crazy!
Making the connection of the life breathing notes in the song to taking pain away and your words about your father, is such a profoundly aware link to the plot of The Sacrifice and what the Tenno do for the Warframe's tortured mind. You've completed TS by the time I made this comment so you also know its plot but that was surprising to hear from someone; to make such a connection before seeing the story.
I played The Second Dream when it was first released. The great thing about it there were no teasers or leaks of what the contents of the second dream were. Before the second dream, the game was no more interesting than a few Left 4 Dead missions. So when this character creation screen came and this amazing piece by Keith Power, it was truly mindblowing. Dialogue choices, character creation, and your RPG tree felt like a whole new dimension added to the game. I'm glad to say the game will have more of these epic moments, though the second dream is hard to beat. I think the music really sells the moment, not sure if Warframe would be as great without Keith Power, as Star Citizen is without Pedro Camacho.
@@MarcoMeatball WHAT?! Oh no I have missed those livestreams! I do hope you enjoyed how it ended, and looking forward to you playing "The New War", the conclusion to this narrative arc.
oh man, watching this quest again almost made me cry. When this happened, and we knew nothing about who the warframes really were, literally all the community was having the same reaction as you, it was really an incredible moment.
After hearing this segment 13:25 - 16:00 ohhhh, now I really really want to hear you talk about The Sacrifice (The third main story quest). I won't say more yet to avoid spoiling, but afterward you might want to look back on these words.
This was so exciting to watch live. Looking forward to seeing more as you progress the story, there are some incredible moments that build on this scene going forward.
Welcome Tenno. This song is equal parts lullaby, anthem, and hymn. To move forward we forgive and seek forgiveness for Margulis betrayed us but in her sacrifice we can earn our own sovereignty.
So glad you had a great experience with this, and didn't really get spoiled, and made it far enough into the game, since it can definitly be rough around the edges at times. I was also happy to see such a nice cut version of the VOD, so I didn't have to find the most impactful moments myself, as I only rarely watch full streams.
This is how I fell in love with Warframe and see it more than just a mindless looter shooter. One of the most memorable experience in all of recent gaming history.
Even to this day easily the master stroke of this whole game's story, the first time the game brought me to tears because of how powerful the moment was

What node takes you back there?
I still remember playing this for the first time and legitimately crying, be proud, the true warframe begins now.
06:23 - Congratulations, you've completed the tutorial. Now you truly are one of us. Welcome, Tenno.
"What IS all this??"
It's Warframe, going harder in every way than a free game has any business doing.
Giving you the character creator after like 100 hours of gameplay is such a ridiculously mind-blowing moment. PLaying or watching this quest still moves me, even after dozens of times.
@MarcoMeatball another imposter. Fun times.
I personally also found the Second Dream to be mindblowing, but the Sacrifice is my favorite because of a single quote which also relates to taking away someone's pain. That single quote I will never forget.
I really thought they were going to call back to that at the end of the latest quest. But no.
@@bthsr7113 They didn't need to with dialogue, that line was the only thing I could think of at the final moment of Whispers in the Walls. Such a beautiful moment.
@@sitchreapotere1073 No, it was clearly the relationship we were cleaning up after.
@@bthsr7113 I mean, yeah, that's... the point? That's the beauty of it, that we are helping Loid see the love Albrecht could never adequately express to him?
"We Accept this Memory, and move beyond its reach." - My favorite variation of the quote/sacrifice quest.
Welcome to the game tenno, there is still much left to learn and do. Remember, we all lift together.
This is what you are, literally!
Beautiful to read! And thanks for the donation - helps a lot. Means a lot.
@@MarcoMeatball Love your content man. Keep up the good work
When I saw "musical let's play" I imagined that he would focus entirely on the song that played during the main moment rather than the game changing event that's just occured
I used to go to the somatic link room and just chill there listening to the music. Has been one of my favourite pieces for a long time.
That feel when the 100+ hour character creation screen hits you.
Glad you got to experience this bro. Glad you're awake now.
Man I remember me and my friends playing this back in the day. This was the point where Warframe turned from just another free to play title to a triple A game. Still my favorite quest in the game.
Everytime i hear this music i'm crying,i can't resist.The tenno's history is so heartbreaking.
Its... hard to describe this quest on release. This mission was released approximately 2 years after I've started. Two years passed and I thought I was playing suits of armor. Two years passed, and I was greeted with a customization screen. This was such a huge moment 1000 hours in.
Most games start you at the character creator screen, this one makes you find yourself in more ways than one.
This was a great moment, and I never get tired of people experiencing it for the first time. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story!
The fact it just plays whenever you walk in is just lovely. Sometimes when doing a few missions or whatever you can just sit there and listen whenever you need it and it’s just such a lovely piece to be able to experience it whenever it’s just beautiful in a way I cannot describe
I still get chills when I see the operator reveal
This is always one of the most sacred moments to ever experience in Warframe.
Welcome to the real game, Marco! _This_ is what you are. The Operator, the mind. The Warframe, the body. Both in harmony, making a Tenno whole.
"To take away his pain"
Dude, holy shit dude thoes who know, know.
I had like 600 hours when they threw that character customization screen on me. Probably one of my most memorable moments in gaming
Still get goosebumps whenever a new a Tenno finishes the Second Dream. ❤
I remember sitting in that room just for the music. It's great to see someone else enjoy it like I did back then
1:51 is my favorite scene in gaming once that hand touches your Warframe and see the void pulse bring it back to life. With the fantastic music. It brings tears to my eyes.
Really heartwarming seeing someone enjoying this content like you. Good video, hope to see you reacting to more of this game.
Congratulations on completing the tutorial!!!
Congrats on waking up Tenno
Congratulations on finishing the tutorial and reaching character creation!
I can't wait to see your reaction to what is yet to come.
Always nice to see someone finish the prologue
This is what you are as a song and the second dream are just so special and it's nice to see that it still holds up for what it is and what it means
The broken war is one of the best heavy blade sword in the game plus the Tatu so i have been told I'm also a knew player and really
Enjoying the game
brooo such a nostalgia...
And, this is the reason why 'This is what you are' makes me emotional everytime.
"To take away the pain"....
Bro. That is EXACTLY how I felt after my first playthrough. That quest, when it dropped, was what cemented my love for this game and company. I just sat in awe for at least an hour. I’m so happy you enjoyed it brother. Can’t wait to see you get to the others.
Look at the joy, child-like wonder, and emotions on this man's face, then recall these two words. Free. Game.
nahhhhh i missed it! happy to see you make it to a big mile stone
I told you, I knew you would love it!
There's something so emotional about Second Dream for me. Both the song and the storyline. I can't really explain it, but it never fails to make me tear up. It was such a wonderful experience.
Daaaaaaamn. After New War one of the dialogue options at 8:00 get a hell of a new meaning.
This was one of the most poignant moments I've experienced in a vid game ... and this in a game that is primarily a looter/shooter. The Warframe devs are very talented game designers.
And now, welcome to the character creation screen!
Getting hit with the character creation screen 50 hours in is truly peak warframe
The War Within nears
I cannot wait for marco to get to "The Sacrifice"!
I can't wait till you complete "The Sacrifice"
Did it!
@@MarcoMeatball WHAT?! Oh no I have missed those livestreams! I do hope you enjoyed how it ended, and looking forward to you playing "The New War", the conclusion to this narrative arc.
I'll have to go check your Vods =)
Probaly upload schedule
sorry i meant the music not the gameplay
oh man, watching this quest again almost made me cry.
Gets me everytime. Ugh, I've never been hit this hard by a reveal...truly the narrative tipping point that made Warframe what it would become...
I had the same reaction as you when I unlocked my Tenno for the first time! This quest is unforgettable and I always replay it!
So glad you enjoyed this quest. Can't wait to see more quest reactions. The sacrifice is pretty incredible also
Still one of the coolest moments in the game, and one we hide so new players may have that shock and joy.
I never thought I'd see you play warframe or give such a deep impactful take at the end that actually made me lay down and think
Wow, this makes me looking foward to you playing [The Sacrifice] quest even more.
Its funny to realize the name of the Tenno is just a nickname that got shortened
They were the children of the Ten-Zero void ship
The Ten-0
The Tenno
This is how I fell in love with Warframe and see it more than just a mindless looter shooter. One of the most memorable experience in all of recent gaming history.
Even to this day easily the master stroke of this whole game's story, the first time the game brought me to tears because of how powerful the moment was
Just wait, you’re only getting started, there’s still a war to fight before it truly begins. The War Within.
One of my favourite cinematics in video games ever. And that song is just.... Beautiful.
Thank you Marco for playing Warframe.
I'm a long time fan of the game, I've been playing since even before the second dream update. I was around 15 years old when the Tenno reveal happened. Just like you, I get very emotional whenever I listen to this theme. Thank you for giving me a second chance to relive the experience through your eyes, it's like sharing something you care about with a friend who's actually on your same wavelength 💜
I waited 5 years for character creation.
i played this mission five years ago today. i’m still not over it!! and the story only gets better here on out!!!
