    It's been two years since I last uploaded a video. I recently purchased a new smoker and wanted to share why I felt this was the best smoker for me.

    Bought the OG from grills grills 3 years ago. Customer service was awesome back then. Ran like a champ. I gave it to a friend who's wife is expected. This grill is in my top 2 choices of a up grade. Been looking at the masterbuilt gravity. Thanks for the info..

    Hey man, just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make this video and articulate why you went with this as opposed to competitors. Everything you said made perfect sense.
    I agree 100 about what you said in regards to Recteq and I was seriously considering the 700, but glad I didn't go that route.
    Just ordered my Silverback AT and love how you pointed out how why that was important to you.
    Appreciate you doing this for us who are shopping around! You should go to being a Grilla ambassador now!

      Thanks for watching, and for the kind words. I wish I could be a Grilla ambassador, but I think they're very selective as to who they work with and my channel isn't anywhere near as big, or has as much influence as they'd like. Besides, I'm sure they've never seen any of the Silverbac videos I've done.
      As for the smoker, I felt it was necessary to go to the lengths I did, considering how much money I was preparing to shell out for this smoker, and thankfully, I'm not disappointed.

    Lots of really good information. Like you I’m going from an offset smoker to a pellet smoker, just got tired of babysitting the fire box. I’ve considered all the pellet smokers you mentioned and then some. I was leaning towards the Rectec 700 but now I’m probably going with the Silverbac because of the two different smoke settings you mentioned. They’re supposed to come out with a WiFi control head by the end of the year which I’m holding out for. They say current owners will get a discount to purchase the WiFi controller. Enjoyed your video, keep it up.

      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому

      Thanks for checking it out and I'm glad it helped. I thought about the WiFi control, but in my experience, they're more of a babysitting hassle than they're worth lol. I just set the temp on this and use a Thermoworks Smoke.

    Boom! She’s a beaut! Man, just get yourself a good cover for it and you won’t have to move it all the time. My Traeger stays covered and it has stayed in great shape. It definitely affords you the opportunity to smoke more during the week. Cheers, bro!

    Steve, thanks for the in depth review. I was very torn between the SIlverbac AT vs the Recteq 700. I went with the Silverbac and am waiting for it's arrival. The double wall insulation was very important to me. I know that both are high quality grills. I also really was not into the bull styling of the grill. I grew up in Philly and this wasn't really a selling point to me (no disrespect to those who like it). I also like all of the video support that Grilla does. Marc really helps sell the product's quality.

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому

      Yeah the double wall wall insulation is great. I haven't had any issues with mine maintaining temps at all. Glad the video was helpful to you.

    Refreshingly honest and straightforward. Good info. I'm buying my 1st pellet smoker soon and the Grilla Silverback Alpha is my frontrunner. The more I research the more convinced I am this is the one. Your reasoning is on point. The double wall insulation and price are nice..
    Btw do you think it will store outside ok if I get the cover for it?
    Thanks for sharing.

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for checking out the video, and the feedback. I don't think you'll regret purchasing it. As for storing outside, I can't say for certain as I keep mine in the garage, but there's been quite a few folks who say they leave it outside covered and have no problems.

    Hey Steve, I agree with your review. You did a great job. I too did a lot of comparisons and even compared to a Traeger, which I owned one for over 10 years. The double wall insulation was a big reason I switched from Traeger to Grilla not to mention the stainless steel, perceived durability, additional smoke features and lastly price and I do mean price!!! The other thing that turned me off on Traeger, was they seem to be living off their reputation now, not the quality of their new grills. I read a lot of reviews from people who were disappointed with their 2nd purchase of a Traeger. I didn’t want to make that same mistake. I smoked a lot in the late 90’s and early 2000 with the side smoke chamber and when I stumbled across a Traeger in 2008, I was hooked. Love the ease of use and similar smoke flavor (you’re right, not the same flavor, but close). I use to get up every hour on my overnight smokes and now I can sleep in... YES
    Another thing that impressed me about Grilla was their frankness in manufacturing. A lot of smokers want to hid that they build in China, Grilla addressed it up front and said, “we tried to make in USA, but cost was killing us” they still make accessories in the USA, just not the grills. I appreciated their honesty. We wanted a USA made smoker, but was not happy with what we could find, which was limited. So, we got our Grilla as a CHRISTmas present to ourselves and cooked our 1st loin on it this past weekend. Looking forward to breaking it in as time goes on. A few more loins and butts to season the grill and then it’s time for my brisket :-p

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to watch. I had been watching pellet smokers for the better part of the last two and a half years before buying this one. At first, I just didn't get it, but the whole practicality and ease of use really helped make up my mind. You'll really be pleased with how it does brisket. I smoked one for Christmas, in the freezing cold and it held temps rock steady for 11 hours.

    • @lioneltak
      @lioneltak 3 роки тому

      Agreed. When I found out they were made in China I looked elsewhere. "Elsewhere" is way overpriced without the justification of better quality and reputation. I'm pretty sure I'm sold on the Grilla Silverback Alpha now. Just a matter of whether or not I want the cabinet or the all terrain set up. Time for an early CHRISTmas gift, God willing.

    Hey there! Great video! Really a big help as there are a lot of options. Question, I am leaning toward the AT version because I have read and heard about the other model tipping over due to the weight of the hopper. Have you had that issue with the AT base at all?

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  Рік тому

      No I haven't had any issues with it wanting to tip over at all. I will say that it seems some folks with the newer version of this grill (WiFi enabled) have had issues with it, so if I were buying this again, I'd still go with the version I currently have. Thanks for taking the time to watch.

  • @Reviews4fun1
    @Reviews4fun1 3 роки тому +1

    Hey thanks for the video. Are you still satisfied with this model? Any others you’d consider at this point? Being generally lazy, I’m looking at other grills that have a removable ash dump like the newer pit boss models but I’m a bit concerned about the app people reported problems with. Or the newer Weber but the design still seems suspect. I wish the grillas had a removable ash tray.

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching the video. Yes I’m still very happy with this. I just use a shop vac to clean it out so it’s no big deal to not have a removable ash tray. At this point, if I was still searching for one, of the ones you mentioned, I’d probably still consider the Weber. Anything that you’re still seeing reports of app issues on, I’d advise you to stay away from. Of course, overall, I’d say do some research, make some calls to the companies you’re interested in and ask them questions, and check out some more video and written reviews.

    Great video! I’ve been looking at a bunch too. I have an older traeger but their new ones seem flimsy. Can you tell me about the internals on this grill? Is the drip pan and heat shield over the fire pot thick? Does the auger seem like a pretty robust size? Thanks!

    • @MrSteviej893
      @MrSteviej893  3 роки тому

      It’s ok. Depends on which flavor pellets you use. The hardwoods will always have more smokiness to them, however, it’s no where near as smoky as a wood or charcoal burning smoker.

    Run away from Grilla as fast as you can. My experience has been terrible, I hate this grill.
    Bought new grill, controller would not hold temps, would swing plus/minus 50 degrees. Changed controller, controls temps better BUT nowhere near as good as my friends ReqTec. So far on this second controller, I cannot get wifi to connect no matter what I do. I have spent hours researching and troubleshooting this grill. NOT WORTH IT, buy a ReqTec. You'd be better off buying a cheaper Pit Boss than this POS.

      Your opinion and experience. In the two years I've had mine, it's worked and any issues I've had were 1) minor and 2) Grilla customer support helped me through. Speaking of Grilla support, have you tried to get them to help instead of bashing it online. I'd somewhat agree with you if you tried to get them to help and they didn't.

    • @gl5930
      @gl5930 Рік тому

      @@MrSteviej893 Custer service has been fine. The grill was missing parts when I got it and they supplied them in a few days, they sent the controller very quickly too. But this grill doesn't perform well enough to justify the price vs other brands. Yes, my opinion, but I want others to know that buying a grill from them is risky, once you own it, you own it. If I was to buy another grill, it would be a RecRT-590, same size and close to same price and holds temps about 5 degrees instead of 25 degrees like the Grilla. For the same performance, you can get a cheap grill and replace the grates with stainless for a lot less.
