    Great solo trip. Looked like you weathered the cold just fine. The boiled water trick I use every time. It really works great. Stays warm all night typically. Congrats to Saskatchewanfisher. Congrats on your milestone. Have a wonderful day.

    That knife can really multitask. Nice fire in a snowy campsite. That was a nice snow fall overnight for spring. Great tip with the water.

      It was a decent dump of snow. We probably got another inch or two by the time I'd packed out. Wish it didn't snow that much - I wanted to go off into the crown land the next morning and bring home some more firewood, but that wasn't in the cards.

      Thanks Mark, I sealed up the lid super tight. Someone suggested the idea of putting it in a wool sock though to stop direct skin contact and prevent likelihood of burns. I put it in the main sleeping bag then I slept inside the fleece bag though too so I wasn't in direct contact at all. Glad I stayed out in the cold so you didn't have to lol. This was definitely a fun trip though. Probably one of my top 5 camping trips for sure. Cheers and thanks for watching!

    Good for Sask Fisher - congrats! Dan I'm not a Ribstone Creek fan myself and I even drove thought Edgerton yesterday . Would like to support an Alberta brewery but I'm just not a fan. Those nights in an unheated tent during winter are normally not the best - and not much worse that sleeping in a heated tent - bake then freeze and repeat. Thanks for taking us along, enjoyed.

    What a wonderful winter camping adventure. Great job on creating the fire! Great tips about putting hot water on nalgene bottle and putting it in the sleeping bag to keep you warm. My co-hikers had been doing that too.. I haven't done it (yet) as my sleeping bag is really warm. Regarding condensation of tent, I always have that on my tent too.. even when I thought I had a good tent :-) Thanks for taking us along and congratulations to the winner :-) Sending my support to keep you channel growing.

      Yah, I might be in trouble if I did a few back to back nights. Might be hard to control the dampness. I do think there was more ventilation where I had my feet. I really liked this one Dan! That knife by Joe Mre is pretty awesome, especially with the flint attached to it. Sometimes what I do to help start the fire is I scratch the flint a bit with the knife and let the powder accumulate on a piece of bark. When a spark hits the powder it creates a bigger flame to put the chipped wood on. The tent looked like it did the job for the night! Is there anything you can do for the moisture? Congrats Saskatchewan Fisher for the win and great tip of the week!

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      Good tip on the scratching of the flint. Definitely that would help. I'll have to keep that in mind next time. Wasn't at it too long, but its a short rod and a long knife so I had a difficult time anchoring and shooting good sparks. The knife is called a Mossy Oak Overwatch . Good combo and something I'm sure I could sub for the Hatchet. . As for the condensation, I think the side I had my head on had one vent, my foot side had two vents.. I think if I had flipped around it might have helped. But the mesh storage thing is where the lone vent is which is convenient to hold gear items. Next time, I'll Flip around and see if that works better.

    • @HenriVineFishing
      @HenriVineFishing 2 роки тому +1

      @@DCOutdoors Ya I noticed the flint was a little short for the knife but it's still really practical if that's the only thing you got when your lost! Good idea by flipping sides next time, I'm curious to see if it will help!

    You are a brave man...I guess I like being warm too much! lol I know how cold it can get overnight in Alberta! Will have to go check out Saskatchewan Fisher now. Take good care as always...Bruce and Otis

      It was definitely my coldest night camping in a situation where I wasn't running a heater. I was well prepared and the tent held up well. Next year I'm going to push it colder. I'm inspired to torture myself a bit more. It's fun to be a bit uncomfortable. Thanks for watching Bruce!

      LOL! "That's not a knife...".. This thing was a hell of a blade. I was really impressed. If that was hot, we're downright tropical now. Today was 20'c on the positive side of freezing. We've had a TON of snow melt lately - thank goodness. It's been a long, long winter!!

    Very cool video Dan👍 I build a fire almost exactly like you do😁👍 use my knife for making kindling and ferro rod to spark it to life😉 I found my self blowing on my phone as soon as i seen that fire start and you put those shavings on 🤣 that tent looks cool aswell.

    • @DCOutdoors

      I rarely use a hatchet any more for kindling. I pretty much exclusively baton the wood. Way safer in my opinion. It was nice to practice with the ferro rod - haven't made a fire with one in a bit. Thanks for watching my friend!

      I definitely want to push it colder next time to see how low I can go. I also have my eyes open for deals on a hot tent which should make it easier for me to take out the kids.

      @DC Outdoors build one. You can build a really big one out of a heavy duty tarp for around 100$. Saw a great video on it. With guy lines and everything. I will be building one this summer for next winter
