    This is the rare full version of Jim Bakker's resignation as head of PTL. Technically speaking Tammy Faye resigned at the same time. This video was aired Monday. March 23, 1987.
    In the opening, Richard Dortch refers to show as the PTL Club as it was now rebranded. Jim and Tammy are featured in footage shot at their Palm Springs home. The taping was done on the porch of the guest house on the property. Back in the studio key PTL insiders Richard Dortch, Vi Azvedo and others were on the set to further explain the unfolding situation to the PTL partners. #JimandTammy #TammyFaye #JimBakker #PTL #HeritageUSA #PTLClub #JimandTammyFayeBakker

      Glad you enjoyed. It's hard to believe so much time has passed. Still feels like it just happened. The Heritage Grand has maintained the essence of what it looked like when built. Main Street does not have actual retail any more but it has been fairly well preserved. Many of the rooms with balconies on the inside facing Main Street were left untouched. I visited in 2017 and was shocked to find my room was a perfectly preserved time capsule. The carpet, wall paper, furniture, all exactly as it was under Jim and Tammy. It was surreal stepping out on the balcony looking over looking Main Street. It felt like it could have been 1986 or 1987.

    Something Jim says here both puzzles and concerns me. As he and Tammy are addressing the audience, Jim claims his sexual indiscretion [with Jessica Hahn] happened in 1980, and had been “under the blood of Jesus Christ” since that time… Oh really?
    Because in a 1994 appearance on Jerry Springer, Tammy says that Jim did not confess to her the affair he’d had with Hahn until he was pressured by Jerry Falwell (I assume sometime in 1987). Jim states also that he committed this act with Hahn with the motivation to “make Tammy jealous and win her back to my love…” And Tammy just goes right along with that lie!
    That last comment about making Tammy jealous is in stark contrast to Jessica Hahn’s testimony of everything that transpired that evening in 1980.
    I know it’s all water under the bridge at this point, but when you revisit all that’s been said and done (thank you, UA-cam!) you get a sense of who Jim and Tammy truly were. I don’t hate them. Please don’t take my comment as hateful. I’ve been following them for decades now, and I feel like all the puzzle pieces are coming together for the first time. Once again, thanks for the wonderful upload.

      In early 1981 Jim confessed to Dr. Fred Gross of the Palmdale therapy team. Dr. Gross thought it best to not tell Tammy. Years later after the story broke Jim allowed Dr. Gross to speak about it. As for Tammy on Jerry Springer, that was mentioned before. I don't think Tammy carefully thought when on shows. The sequence of events was that Tammy was with Jim as she recovered and was unaware of the impending Hahn story. Dortch made plans to bring Falwell to Jim in Palm Springs. With Falwell on the way Jim had no choice but to tell Tammy. This version of events was echoed by Jim in his book, Doug and Laura Lee Oldham, Don Hardister and Tammy in her book.
      Regarding Jessica, Charles Sheppard and The Charlotte Observer sat on the story for such lengthy time in large part because Jessica's story changed so frequently.
      Many people are not aware of Jessica's life with her pastor leading up to 1987.
      After the fall of PTL it emerged that Jessica had long been receiving money from her home church. She received trips, furs etc paid for with church money.
      The state had alleged Profeta skimmed about $90,000 from the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Massapequa, N.Y., and used the money to buy furs and jewelry for Hahn, make car payments for her, and go on gambling trips to Atlantic City.
      'Reverend Profeta was an idol to me,' said Hahn, who wiped away tears as she spoke to reporters after the plea. 'From Day 1, he asked me to lie to protect himself. It was always Gene first.'
      She has a hard time with sticking to one story and after the pastor falls she plays the victim.

      @@alwilson3204 Yes part of the reason The Charlotte Observer moved slowly with the Hahn story was out of concern regarding her varying stories. As an example, you may recall her claim that Jim said Jessica when you help the shepherd you help the sheep. There is a video some where ( I can't recall where at moment) in which she attributes the quote to John Wesley Fletcher. In addition she had a long term fling with her pastor Gene Profeta who had her on the payroll of his church for which she did no real work. Profeta used funds from his church to buy her gifts and take her on trips.

    • @JimandTammyThePTLChronicles
      @JimandTammyThePTLChronicles  2 місяці тому +4

      Let me start by saying that the Jessica Chastain film for whatever reason ditched the actual story. Falwell and Jim barely knew each other. Falwell sent 2 aides to meet with PTL's second in command Richard Dortch about Hahn. Dortch was led to believe Falwell wanted to help. Dortch set up the meeting with Jim and Tammy, Roy Grutman (Falwell's attorney), Dortch and Falwell aides Jerry Nims and Mark DeMoss at Maxim's Hotel in Palm Springs. Jim and Tammy both said Falwell told them the hand over was temporary until the smoke cleared, a few months at most. I can tell you that the day after Jim's resignation I called a friend who was essentially an insider. I was told very clearly that Jim and Tammy were coming back in 6 weeks to a few months. The week after the take over the new board met and then Falwell had a press conference in the Heritage Grand where he claimed he knew nothing of the Jimmy Swaggart plan and he made a remark that he could not complete his mission to save PTL if Jim returned. This first press conference left the Bakkers with feeling as though they had made a terrible mistake. Tammy warned Jim that the hand over was a bad idea. She smelled a rat and her instincts were on the money. The Bakkers did make mistakes while running PTL but Falwell was no angel of mercy. He came in with an agenda and it was not to save PTL or help Jim and Tammy Bakker

      The most recent book about the Bakkers, PTL: The Rise and Fall of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's Evangelical Empire by John Wigger provides great insight into Falwell. Charles Shepard's book Forgiven does as well. In reality when it comes to sex scandals, Jerry jr and his wife seemed to have a far more interesting story, lol.
