Surprised there weren't more people there! I was there in mid Feb last year and there were at least 12-15 other campers at Hole in the Wall. Pretty much any car can make it down that road. There were a few Hondas and Toyotas.
A friend of ours has a popup and he shared this tip. When lowering the top, close the door and put the fan on full exhaust, it helps draw in the sides of the canvas as you lower the roof. Hope that is of interest to you.
That’s the first we’ve heard that. Thanks for sharing! We have bungees on the inside that pull it in, but there’s always a little left in the corners that needs to be tucked. Will give it a try. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. How far in did you drive to that wonderful spot at Hole in the wall? Is airing down necessary? Many thanks. Oh and also if you could share the coordinates for your Alabama Hills camping spot as well as the Hole in the Wall. Would love to visit those soon.
It’s about 3.5 miles of slow going. Airing down isn’t necessary, but does make it smoother. There are a lot of ruts from water running through the wash when it rains, which means have to go take it pretty slow regardless if you air down or not. Happy trails!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! When we pull into Alabama Hills, it’s usually late in the day, so we pick whatever we can that’s not designated as a “no camping zone.” We don’t have coordinates, but there are lots of places to choose from. Enjoy!
Thanks for watching and commenting! 4x4s are posted as being highly recommended, especially since road conditions can change quickly due to weather. However, if you take it slow and are smart to stop and turn around if you feel like the road is getting too bad, you should be okay. Titus Canyon is one-way, but we saw someone doing it with a trailer, so chances you’d make it through okay, are pretty good. We haven’t been there since the floods last year though, so things could have changed and we definitely recommend checking with park rangers. Have fun exploring!
Great Video! Just finished watching your 2nd one too! Questions on this one - Alabama Hills looks awesome - are there any recommended resources for boondocking sites there? Hole in the Wall also looks like a good spot in the valley - are there several boondocking sites in that area, or just a few? We can't take too bad of roads, so might have to find a spot lower down. Last question - what is the brand/name of the shallow wok you are using to cook on? That looks pretty cool - we carry a propane grill, but the wok idea seems like it would be more flexible...
Hey again! Glad we can be a resource for you. Alabama Hills is pretty wide open and you’ll be able to find a spot for your trailer no problem. Might want to grab one of the first ones when you get off the main road. As for Hole in the Wall, you can pretty much camp anywhere along that road (after 1 mile from the pavement) so there are a lot of good options! Our cooking device is called a skottle (brand is Tembo Tusk) and we love it! Have even cooked pasta in it before. It’s a lot of fun to cook on and would recommend for its versatility. It just takes a few times to figure out the heat. It can get super hot, so want to be careful to not burn anything. We may or may not know from experience. 😜 Cheers!
Hey Ody Slim! Thanks for watching and commenting. Off-road gas mileage is not great. We get around 8-15 mpg depending on the terrain. It’s all worth it though!
So cool video, thank you for sharing 🥾🥾
Thanks for watching and commenting! Happy exploring!
Wow, came across your video and all I can say is…..JEALOUS!!!!😅

I guess we were super lucky then to have it to ourselves! It was the long MLK weekend too, so we were definitely surprised it wasn’t busier.
Cafe du monde! hahahah Awesome.
Just wish we had some beignets to go with it! 🤤
No dispersed camping south of the park. Some to the east, but much better inside the park.
That’s super helpful! Thanks for letting us know, Jim. Happy camping!

@@AdventureOutThere I've heard of it, and did it once. It MIGHT make a little difference, but it works fine without doing it.
just went there and i aired down at 19psi and was hauling ass lol made it in 1.5hrs lol I wanna go back and explore some more
Airing down and finding the sweet spot with the speed are key! We loved it so much we’re going back this weekend. Ha So much to see and do!
Leadville is the highest incorporated town in the United States. Here in colorado about 2 hours from me
I’ve driven through Leadville, CO. Beautiful!

Hi, your content are awesome., want to know where you camp in Alabama hills and do you have all coordinates of all your campsites?

Thank you for sharing the video. I drive a 2WD Tacoma OR with a lift and AT tires. Do you think I would be able to go to those spots in your video?

@@AdventureOutThere Thanks for that info! Looking forward to our trip there in a month!
Hey there, I like your truck. What mileage do you get off road? Just wondering. Regards from Ody Slim
