We found a school by accident once off point cook. All we had for bait was crackers and we took about 50 gar. They were actually leaping out of the water to snatch at bare hooks if we put the rods down for a break. Never seen anything like it since.
Nice one. Everyones got there own bait and burley. I use chicken or tiny yabbies up in the gold coast broadwater, and fill up half a bucket of sand, and mix in pilchard oil and a half a box of crushed cheezels for my burley. We fish at night where theres lights, fish a couple hours before the top of tide and maybe one hour of runout. Best fishing is where theres eddies, where tiny whitebait school up, and either side of new moon..almost guaranteed to get a decent feed. Not many here in SE Qld fish for gar at night like me and my wife. You a place where the lights are always on like a walking path close waters edge, so you can see the float ;) oh yeah only use half a box of cheezels in the burley so i can snack on the rest..nothing beats gar flavoured cheezels..
Thank you for your input mate, i am also SEQ, BASED Bris, both the kids live Gold Coast, do you add anything to your chicken for bait? oil ? PS. you find they are better either side of the New moon , some good squid around the area you are talking about as well, Cheers mate, tight lines
Try to use a double snell, cos I use those every time I go fishing and sometimes get a double hook-up. But either way, nice job and keep up the vids. Love 'em! Also try flicking your rods from time to time because you never know when the gars are near as they are very small fish. Hope this helps!
Loved the vid im gonna go gar fishing could u make a vid on how to clean them I struggle as they have some many bones and its hard to make a boneless fillet
I never figured out how to fillet them without wasting meat. Nowdays we just eat crispy style gar cooked in wok with oil. Chop head off, open them up, butterfly them...covered in flour and spices or curry powder, salt pepper whatever..fry them way longer than normal..like 7 mins. They a bit dryer than you may like, but tasty devils..when you deep fry them you can pull the spine out and pin bones disintegrate and can be eaten no problem..like kfc from the ocean:)
Funny to see you using silverfish for bait. When we fished for gars at South Melbourne Beach in the early 90s, we mostly used small pieces of prawn, sand worm, or pieces of pilchard. Then one day someone showed up with silverfish and it was game on. I left the country soon after that so I guess it became pretty popular, is it a go-to bait for gars now?
Ols Outdoors Do you have a post code for people to mail you things because I make hand made gar floats and Could make you one for you to test one out on your channel
Hey like your work, just recently seen your show and been enjoying watching. Keep up the great work. Haven't done much landbase as I've always had a boat, till recently. Any advice for chasing gars like weather, tides or barometer? Is first and last light the way to go?
Mad session there mate 👍 Didn't know you could catch gars there. Where did u buy silverfish? Heard they were banned or something lol And what did you use as berley?

Another Great Vid James. Good job.
Thanks 🙏
Take pipies out of shell's and put in a glass jar with salt. They toughen up and are awesome baits that will catch more than once.
Awesome video keep up the amazing content
cheers mate 🤙
Great fishing day for garfish🎣👏

Thanks for your support! Glad you are enjoying them. More Coming! For garfish I prefer fishing 8-11:30am. Tides, and barometer don't really matter.
Great video mate, awesome feed! What hook size do you recommend using when fishing for gars?
Thanks mate! Black magic G12 Flyhooks
@@JamesFishingAdventures Thanks mate, keep up the good work!
Where is this
Great vid :)
I want to try catch garfish
Where did you buy the bait? And how deep your hook from the float?
Fred Yun king bait and burley is the bait, and I usually have my float 1m down
Can I ask why keep them alive
Mad session there mate 👍 Didn't know you could catch gars there.
Where did u buy silverfish? Heard they were banned or something lol
And what did you use as berley?
Garfish can be caught just about anywhere in the bay, never heard such a thing. Homemade burley does the trick 😉
