Left4Cake blizzard wasn't that big during starcraft release, however i'm not exactly sure how much not big it was In any case, medo said "for 1998", not "for epic games" so you can't really judge by the company
It was 15 years ago (1998) and I hear ya man, I still have the disk and play it to this day, it has a big fanbase and people STILL play online with each other and they have huge servers with like 40-100 people on at a time, it's fun as hell.
What I really like in this track is how the rhythm is so dynamic right at the beginning and keeps pushing the bass untill the end. Can't tell you how I love this theme so much.
I still remember like it was yesterday, when my dad got me a game magazine with a CD which had the JJ2 demo in it. The demo's first level was a shortened lab level. 9-10 year old me had no idea why they would make a game about a hare with a gun, but the graphics were so colourful, the enemies were crazy cool and this song..wow. I still remember rushing to the end of the demo episode and Bubba kicking my ass every single freaking time. Only years later did I manage to beat him without cheat codes.
Oh my god! It's the same with me. My dad got a magazine with a CD that had this demo on it. The first game I ever played in my life. I will never forget it. 💙
Back in high school I had this english teacher who would always do listening tests. One day the whole class had enough and we made a quest to see how could we “hack” her speaker. I had an IPhone 3GS at the time as a replacement phone. During class, as she was trying to connect to that speaker, I kept spamming the poor thing from my 3GS and lo and behold I got into the speaker. Next thing I do, I blast this at full volume. Some select few classmates knew the song and instantly smiled. She never found out who it was who “hacked” her speaker.
Yes :) It does sound like that because Alexander Brandon was the composer behind Jazz Jackrabbit and, among other things, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, and many other "synthy" soundtracks from that era. One of the best composers for some of the best games ever.
When I was younger, the first time I reached this level I thought it was the end of the game because of the music, how hard it was, and it looked cool.
Oh so much childhood. I played this on my first computer. A thinkpad 600. It was the demo form a shareware CD. I wanted the full version so bad but never got it ;_;

Now I've got that mental image of Ancano vibing to this exact song while scheming to advance the Thalmor's interests.
