This is the kind of song that you would listen to when you drive on a straight-forward long road for hours. It's just so calming and isolating at the same time. One of my favorites.
This is amongst my favorite Jazz 2 songs nowadays, even though I didn't think much of it when I was younger (at that time my favorite was Tubelectric).
I just realised how crazy it is that in one part of the game there's a funky and exciting level where you frolic through a carrot garden, another where you traverse an Alice In Wonderland level, but eventually in the same game it turns into this brooding hell-scape level. Just that variety is insane when you really think about it
anywhereiroam same! And it reminds me so much of "Wie die Sichel vum Mond" by the German band Bap (yeah I'm German haha) I always loved and still love that part too!
Coolest level in the game AND coolest music theme along Medieval Jam. The nightmarish crimson background is a genius design choice. Goes to show that you don't need dumb jump scares to make a game scary, all you need is the right colours and designs with some good unnerving music on top. The monster trees in the Hell levels are way cool, I wonder if they're a reference to Dante's Inferno (the original work, not the game). Just a really cool level that screams 90s in the best way. Too bad it's so short and easy, especially for a third-to-last level.
@RATTLE ME SPOONS Wow I can't believe I never saw your reply. There is "Hell Freezes Over", this one and then two "Jazz be Dammed". They're not as charming as this one though, IMO. And again too easy.
@@AnkokunoTsubasa Same sentiments. This track has just the right beat and melody to give that looming feeling that something terrible is up ahead. Too bad Jazz Be Damned is too jammed up to be a good continuation of it. Also the clean-cut skull gates on the background are nowhere near as disturbing as the veiny crimson wall of flesh, not to mention they don't even make sense as you can see the end on the other side of each gate. Overall the game was pretty easy mainly because of the characters' superior agility (which also made the game so much fun to play), once you master their speed pretty much nothing can touch you. Only exception is perhaps the Devil from the Xmas levels, and only if you fight him properly. The blaster is also far too OP for a basic weapon once you max it out.
When I played this game as a kid, I never paid attention to this track. Hoo boy, was young me missing out on one of the most incredible tracks in a game filled with incredible tracks.
am i the only one whom this song reminds me a bit of the Twin Peaks theme? i love both songs for similar reasons. alexander brandon is an absolute genius and one of my all-time favorite composers.
+diamondedge New York? This is weird, I always thought that too, I thought I was the only one. Plus I get vibes of a Slash looking character a bit fatter with small round glasses (sort of like Gabe Newell but almost balding). In the afternoon, orange light, walking through the empty streets. In a black jacket thinking why are there no decent people around? He has no one to talk to. But I think that's just me.
I personally associate the song with desert/mountain/decaying type settings more than NYC. Has that sort of somber lost kinda sound to it, but you're pushing onward anyways.
@Miki Ristic As an artist I could make a short cartoon with a scene like this and a JJR bootleg poster on some brick wall buildings with a similar tune. And I'll call it Cold Pizza.
Always when I drive on a long lone road with the sun setting on a warm day I automatically want to listen to this song, it just seems like it fits perfectly with the scenery..
I don't think I was more addicted to a game as much as this one...10 years ago, when i finally got the CD from a friend, i saved it in a special place in my computer so, when i don't play the game, i would just listen to this amazing themes. And now, as a musician, when i listen this tracks from JJ2 (and from other games) i realize how well they were made and what a huge joy and pleasure is to listen to them. They might not sound natural, but they were made with love. And i'm still a happy kid!
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 song just has no right to slap that hard. It's just a miracle what Alexander Brandon & Robert Allen were able to do with those synths and create such a dense atmosphere in a game about crazy rabbits shooting guns
+Soldier993 yess exactly! I just heard this music again in a Smash Bros. video and had to look it up, ever since I've heard it in that map of Epic 2 I wondered where it comes from.
@@Fotel I wouldn't even necessarily say the gameplay was bad but yeah it seemed like the most rushed and underdeveloped part of the project. Even worse is it could've been made super hard within the same constraints of its engine and would've just been unpleasant. Like so many british/european platformers from around the same time where everything was poured in to technical impressiveness but they were frequently just awful to play and ultimately very "small" games with few levels/little content.
Alexander Brandon has always had a very recognizable signature, but this one song gives me particularly strong Deus Ex vibes. If you'd told me this was an unused song that was supposed to play in Hell's Kitchen, I would totally believe you.
Well duh, that's because back then these companies were not well known and weren't well advertised, they poured their heart and soul into these games to put out the best they could so that every customer was hooked immediately.
