Always a rare treat coming across footage of the SP GS-8s (Ex-Cotton Belt L1s) in action. That this video features one as the thumbnail makes it all the sweeter! Lol Incidentally, I'd heard rumors that SP originally wanted the L1s on the Coastal route for their impressive starting/stopping power. With how quickly the GS-8 shown brings its train to a halt, I'd say there may be some merit to those claims.
SO COOL - I grew up in Palo Alto & Sunnyvale in the 60s and recognize a few stations/yards there... Dad used to commute to Menlo Park on the old Southern Pacific, then in the early 2000s, I returned to the Bay Area and lived/worked along the current CalTrain line - my office was directly across from the San Carlos Station, and I commuted from down in Mountain View before getting an apartment in San Carlos. I remember when lines and spurs were EVERYWHERE along the Peninsula to service the industry and manufacturers.
what a great video TSG, love how you turned some of the clips to Black and White. I am surprised you can still find that many steam locomotives around. Please do one thing and get a better tri pod, I know those big girls can shake the ground pretty good while passing by but you need a steadier tripod. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment,, I like that a lot, because it took me a long time to type this comment too you. I am not very good with a keyboard and need to use only one finger to type and this is only after I can find the right letter. Sometimes. I even forget the word I was typing because it takes me so long. EH
Siskel & Ebert 2 thumbs up on the music. Thanks for the videos.
