    Hi,
Another interesting book to film show. I didn't know it was adapted. I thought it was an original Polansky film. The movie horrified me as a kid seeing it back in the 1970's.
    Thanks

Thanks for watching! The movie is still pretty creepy to this day so I could only imagine the effect it’d have on me back then.

@@BigVicMedia it definitely has held up well. You'll see it show up on the lists of many horror directors most influential films. Any chance you might do a compare contrast of The Exorcist especially since the remake is being released October 6 of this year.
      Thanks

Mmm that’s a good question. I am going to begrudgingly see the new one. I’m not excited to see the new one only cause those movies are super disturbing. I won’t say no cause there’s always a chance I do but at this point, haha I don’t want to read and rewatch the exorcist 😆

Another good one from this time would be Audrey Rose. Similar in many ways. Both are great

The baby/pregnancy book my mom had didn't say anything about smoking, cocktails in moderation. When my dad was born there was a fridge in the maternity ward full of beer. They were encouraged to drink it up because it was supposed to stimulate the breast milk. Crazy

That is so wild but then again, depending on the year, they probably drove home holding the baby rather than a car seat and who knows what other things we’d never do today.

@@BigVicMedia 70s, I'm not sure there was a car seat. I don't think even seatbelts were the law then. I spent most of my childhood riding in the back of the truck.

Ira Levin wrote ‘This Perfect Day’. Its 1984 2.0. So good. Enjoy.

That sounds awesome! I just read 1984 for the first time this summer. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

The interiors for Rosemary’s Baby were all shot at Paramount Studios in L.A., while the all the exteriors were shot in New York City. The movie was filmed between August and December of 1967, and came out in June of 1968.
The apartment building in the movie was called the Bramford, but it’s actually the Dakota apartment building on West 72 street in Manhattan, across the street from Central Park. It’s been a place for the rich and famous for over 100 years, and it’s also known to be one of the most expensive apartment buildings in Manhattan, a two bedroom apartment went for $25 million a few years ago (granted, the apartments are huge and elegant). The Dakota doesn’t allow people to film inside, so what you see in the movie isn’t accurate because it was done in a studio. The real interior of the Dakota is said to be like a palace.
What the Dakota is most famous for isn’t Rosemary’s baby, but a real life horror. In 1973 John Lennon and his wife bought a huge apartment on the 6th floor facing Central Park. On December 8, 1980 a deranged fan shot John Lennon to death outside the Dakota in the massive entranceway, in the movie its the same spot where Terry jumped out of a window and landed on a car and the sidewalk. There are numerous documentaries on UA-cam about John Lennon that tell what happened.

I’ve heard that story about John Lennon. And $25 million is disgusting haha, I’d much rather have a few homes around the world but to each their own. They chose the perfect building for the book and movie.

I'll jane to add this to my short list of films that are better than the book. Book was great. Kinda a short book, maybe why it follows so closely

      @BigVicMedia  10 місяців тому

Yeah the book was very short. Perhaps short books make for great movies so they can follow the story as written.

You have to understand the context of the story and the time in which it was written. Back then, yes, people smoked around pregnant women and pregnant women were encouraged to smoke to "keep the weight off." A drink now and then (no more than one a day) was well advised to relax a nursing mom and "bring the milk down." In fact, even as recently as when I myself was pregnant in the 80s, alcohol was recommended Seriously.
You know it's funny, but it's been many decades since I read the book and I have found myself saying over and over lately, in regard to Satanic practices, that it doesn't matter what I believe, and my belief is not required in someone else's philosophy.

It’s pretty incredible how fast things change. In my previous episode where I covered “Psycho” I mentioned that there’s a big difference between old movies and new movies but there’s not nearly as big of a difference between old books and new books, other than understanding the context of the time.
It’s a creepy thought thinking about what some may believe that you don’t if their beliefs affect you negatively. Thank you for watching!

Less comparing book and film to each other, more comparing both to modern standards.
"OMG, there are things in 'Rosemary's Baby' that wouldn't fly in today's culture!"
Uhhhh, if you're gonna talk about old films through a modern culture lens, have the balls to put it in your UA-cam title. I was led to believe this was a book/film comparison.
"The apartment was really big. That's not how it is in NYC today."
"She had a glass of wine while pregnant. They look down upon that today."
    Uhhh, no shit.
How is this comparing book to film?

    • @BigVicMedia

Well when the book and movie are almost identical, you gotta talk about something. Thanks for watching 😊
