Hi Dr Anne the lavender oil is a deal breaker for me, although I have used lactic acid in the past. I prefer mandelic acid on my sensitive skin and use the by Wishtrend 5% mandelic acid toner for surface exfoliation if needed. I alternatively use the 1% BHA in the calm range by paula's choice if my pores need a bit of refining. Both are gentle yet effective options that are far less expensive than the Biossance shown and both are fragrance free (30mls of the PC calm BHA is around £11 and is available as a travel/trial size in this format). I use one or the other once a week and the other nights alternate my retinaldehyde with 15% azelaic acid. This is enough cell turnover and exfoliation to keep my dry skin smooth usually. The night I use an exfoliant is the night I use a face mask etc and differs from my normal routine in the products used. There are so many exfoliants on the market, that it's not something I want to spend a ton on tbh. I would rather pay more for a retinaldehyde or spf (or an amazing moisturiser) that really suits my skin. Best wishes.
I understand that. And the by wish trend Mandelic Acid toner is one I love as well, it is gentle enough for all year round for me. That unpaired with 2% BHA is perfect for my acne-prone skin.
@@DavidTranAnh I don't think it is that prominent, but I have lavender sachets on my desk at work, so maybe I am just used to higher scent intensities?

Also, the cream has a really strange smell that I had to get used to, but now I find that scent super relaxing whenever I apply on my face. I like lactic acid. Probably my favourite exfoliating acid. I have been using tretinoin daily for about 9 days after my adapalene tube ran out and definitely could not exfoliate atm. Using adapalene for longer definitely helped with tret tolerance
@@DoctorAnne I have been using it after Cicaplast Baume but it definitely gets through because if I don’t use Vaseline around my mouth and nose, it becomes the Sahara. Vaseline doesn’t even stop it fully. An extra 3 and a half months on adapalene definitely helped. Probably would have been wise to start with a stronger retinol before even using adapalene since retinaldehyde is not irritating in the slightest to me. I have been using Tretinoin for ages due to having adult acne and for me that is enough. Every skin is different and has different needs, so it isn't a "exfoliating after 40" rule, but more of a "look what your skin needs and in which instensity" rule. I hope that helps.
@@DoctorAnne thank you so much for taking time to answer me 🙏. I' m started my Retinol journey a few months ago and I still have a lot of questions. Hi Dr. Anne, How well do you think this product would do for a person of color? I have hyperpigmentation I just turned 38 years old. I do not have wrinkles. I have oily skin around my t zones and dryness around my mouth, where the hyperpigmentation is and dark spots on my cheeks. I see fine lines in between the dryness. I wash my face twice daily. I dermaplane inconsistently and I recently moved to the UK. Please and thanks for your help.
I think it is a good one to try - how well it works for your individual skin is of course something I can't say for sure. But Lactic Acid is a good gentle exfoliant. I am not sure though if it will move the needle much in terms of hyperpigmentation - it might be better to first take care of your dry skin and then see if you can use something a little stronger for that. Maybe there is someone you could see in person for recommendations?
I have a issue with lavender. But it’s the last ingredient on the list and you can’t even smell it. I have no issue with this. Plus there are always coupons for Biossance for at least 20% off. Then Rakuten rebates sometimes at ten percent on top of it.

Any specific reason the Dr doesn't exfoliate regularly? Are there specific recommendations regarding exfoliation at 40's ?
