Re: Zero is one of the most interesting isekai anime that has come out in the past few years. The story revolves around Natsuki Subaru being transported from Earth to a new world and he is granted one simple power: "Return By Death". Subaru must use this newfound power to save those he cares about, such as Emilia, Rem, Ram, Petra, Otto and Garfiel and more.
Who is Satella and why did she grant subaru this power? What is the motivation behind the witch cult which have members such as Petelguese the sin archbishop of sloth? These are some of the questions I'll tackle on this channel, I hope you enjoy it and most importantly also enjoy season 1 and season 2 of Re: zero and hopefully it does well enough to warrant a third season covering arc 5 (Season 3 re: zero).

Just by curiosity, do you know if regulus had ever kissed or at the very least showed affection to some of his wifes? Or he was just a creppy guy that just kidnapped girls with the purpose of just having them near him without doing anything malicious things to them?

@@Jakez123 Well, Theresia and wilhelm kissed on their weding. But if sylphy said regulus didn't touch them then they probably skipped the kiss part, I guess he doesn't like the brides showing emotions as well that is one more point for him not to kiss them but honestly idk.
Ok stating Regulus isn't greedy like really? I think that Regulus Greed is the best portrayal of evil Greed throughout any anime. Evil Greed isn't "You want something." Evil greed is the one where you want something regardless of what happens to others in the process. And best part of Regulus is his memorable line "Am I asking for too much?" when he literally asks Reinhard to kill himself. So saying Regulus isn't greedy is same as saying Capella's sin of lust is misplaced.

He literally made his wives targets to be killed, just so that he can have power..
He is the embodiment of WRATH.
To him, every action he takes is wholly justified by “his rights” and violations thereof, perceived or actual.
He doesn’t hoard anything, but his key characteristic is responding to any perceived impediment with extreme violence and sadism. This is the essence of wrath. The thing with his hundred wives should be a “Lust” ability imo.
@@theoreticaltrap992 What the hell? He doesn't hoard anything? He hoards WIVES. He doesn't do anything with them. He doesn't care specifically for them and their feelings. He treats them like objects and just wants them. Yes, they feed his power, but which one came first? And he has to be greedy in order for him to be able to satisfy his power's conditions for use.
He's extremely possessive over his rights and will defend them to a ridiculous degree, even if it means killing you for infringing even the most insignificant detail.
While he may be compatible with Wrath as well, wrath is more unrestrained indulgence in retaliation. That is to say, one getting high and satisfaction from the act of retaliating to the point where they continuously crave it. Regulus doesn't do this. In fact, there are quite a few times when he restrains himself after he already tried to administer retribution. A person addicted to wrath would never be satisfied. Just like a Greedy person would never be satisfied with all they own. So Greed suits him just fine.
Honestly that fight was one of my favorite fights of all rezero it’s just 2 of the most broken characters throwing whatever they can at eachother

He’s greedy for control over other people, especially his wives. One of the meanings of his name is ”little king” after all.
He uses ”his rights” as justification to force control over others, which is why it’s one of his few possesions.

When he was a little kid his wish is to be left alone and let him live happily, after that he wish to do anything without ANY consequences (which is really greedy if u think about it) after that he gain a greed witch factor he obtain a power to stop his own time because he want to be left alone by everybody INCLUDING death, he also really greedy because he want to do anything he want, to do that he needs huge power, so the witch factor grant him his wishes and he gain the "stillness of object time". Conclusion is regulus is really fckin greedy thats why he got the most OP power.

I have always thought that "Lion's Heart" is just the ability to share the heartbeat with his wives and that his invincibility comes from the fact that he uses "Object on Stills Time" on himself allowing him to do it indefinitely thanks to "Lion's Heart" which allows him to make his heart beat while his body is still in time.
Yeah, we all made this mistake. Luckily it's been corrected now.
I think this makes a lot more sense than this new theory tho

It’s in the sense that he doesn’t display greedy characteristics beyond caring about his waifus, and even then he doesn’t “care” for them. - again I personally wouldn’t call someone like regulus greedy.

Re Zero is a very psychological show (that's what makes it so great), and one of the ways that manifests is in putting twists on the vices of the traditional sins. The Archbishop of Gluttony's (forgot his name) gluttony for memories, Echidna's greed for knowledge, or Regulus' greed to be able to do whatever he wants, Tappei seems to be making it clear that it doesn't matter how it's expressed, it's the underlying psychology behind that sin that matters.

He feels he should be respected and listened to nearly all the times. He wants to do whatever he wants and take whatever women is his type regardless of the circumstances. He desperately wants the world to revolve around himself. He's a very greedy person but he doesn't see it that way because feels he has a "right" to damn near everything.

Looking at it from a different perspective it could be argued that Regulus is in fact the most greedy character and is a perfect match for his particular authority. Regulus claims to not be greedy because he doesn’t have any desires for physical objects but greed extends past only a lust for material treasures. To be greedy you only need desire and take more than you need, what makes Regulus greedy is his approach to his own personal freedoms. Anything and everything that offends his sensibility’s is instantly destroyed or enslaved with no consideration of their feelings or desires. Id say he is the embodiment of selfishness, which is in its own way a manifestation of greed. In this way I don’t think it could be ruled out that he is not a good pairing for the authority of greed and the theory that the strength of the authority is proportional to its compatibility with the possessor cannot be ruled out just yet.

Her book of Wisdom isn't as perfect as it sounds. She didn't actually know what Subaru was feeling during the witxhes tea party, after all. None of the witxhes realized that the issue was that he believed nobody cared about him at all.
Well, maybe her Authority is that good but she just doesn't hse it as much as she can thanks to her wanting to experience rather than just know.

I do not really agree that Regulus is not greedy. SPOILERS
First, he does capture Emilia in Arc 5 just to make her his wife. Now, Regulus' greed can be found in his speeches. He is so greedy he wants to impose his twisted worldview on others without the others ever being able to retaliate. He wants to "impose" his "rights" on others. Others just talking back to him is like "invading his personal space", "infringing on his rights". Basically, abusing one's rights is greed. Especially if the guy is crazy and his rights actually come with no responsibilities and are inconsistent due to folly. I think there is a form of greed in Regulus. A greed for "dominance". Although that part is interpretation, just because Regulus says he is not greedy does not mean he is in fact, not greedy. The guy is inconsistent, if anything.
The author directly said Regulus is meant to be greedy.
Echidna is a more direct Greed, and Regulus is a more indirect Greed, in a Q&A, so he is meant to come off as Greedy.
Regulus can also be seen as greedy as he believes he should live the perfect life without being interrupted and no consequences falling upon him X that by his hypocritical nature, that's pretty greedy

his ability works on something he touches. He can stop the time of the air he breathes out - it essentially becomes the air blade with the same penetrative force as the dirt thrown. But he cannot stop the time of the air you breathe

Remember when he cut the connection between Ram and Subaru in Arc6? When Subaru uses the Authority of Greed. He can do that to Regulus and his connection to his wives. Cutting the connection means no Invulnerability.

@@fire-ro1wm Yeah it's really not in his character to go all out. The fight would take a little while until Reid would sever all connections and after that he would probably cut him up before Regulus would have a chance to get what happened.
Tho even Dragon Sword isn't too good at blocking his projectiles. Like yes whatever part of the wind or dirt will come into contact with the sword will be stopped but as his attacks have wider area it wouldn't help too much.
Reinhardt is op yes, but I just feel like there are too many op characters in re:zero. We don't know much about pandora, satella and Reinhardt are immortal, regulus is just op. What else?
Reid Astrea, the first Sword Saint. Can defeat Julius using chopsticks without trying, can cut through Authorities and Magic with simple swings of his chopsticks.

One thing I disagree with is the statement that Regulus Isn't greedy.
The mans got multiple wives and he wants to be treated with respect while he doesn't respect others.

'Regulus, just where did we meet before?'
Out of all the sin archbishops, both in the anime and the light novels, he is the one I find, by far, most unbearable. He is a really good character, but my hate for him borders on irrationality. His personality is just so...disgusting.

From what I see from the the sin archibishops is how their own sin personality differs from their witch factor:
Regulus - Greed - with a Wrath Personality
Petelgeuse - Sloth - with a Lust personality ...... Ai Ai Ai Ai
Lye, Roy, Louis - Gluttony - with Greed personality.
Capella - Lust - with a Pride personality
Sirius - Wrath - with a Gluttony personality?
Al? - Pride? - with a Sloth personality?
Gluttony is somewhat habitual Greed, so Ley, Roy, and Louis being Greedy still fits Gluttiny.
Also, Louis's Gluttony is [Insatiability].
Ley is basically as you said, habitual Greed.
Roy is irrelevent.
Louis though, her Gluttiny is being unable to be Satisfied. That's Gluttonous as hell.
Gluttony-Baru, was satisfied with only an absolute PERFECT ideal of "Natsuki Subaru"
Louis is only satisfied with an ABSOLUTELy perfect life.
Both of those are impossible, and incredibly Glutinous wishes.
"Lust" doesn't only mean sexual lust.
It also means a "craving" kinda sensation.
Like when you think "I'm craving for..." your also Lusting for that think.
We dunno how Cappella's mind works, so her craving is currently unknown.
Betelguse's is Incompatible so he doesn't matter.
Sirius isn't particularly Gluttonous.
We dunno her thoughts, so the origin of her Authority is mainly unknown. She might and might not be wrathful.
Aldebaran doesn't seem slothful.
As for him not being Prideful that's pretty true.
But be isn't confirmed ro be Pride.
He might be another Envy Weilder or the current Mechancholy weilder.

Nah I seriously believe that Regulus is one of the sin archbishops most fitting of his witch factor.
I also believe that Echidna's authority is the most terrifying of all. If a fight is ever to occur between the 2 then Echidna has already tinkered with the past enough so that she will without a doubt come out easily on top. The fight was over perhaps even years before it started
As of this moment in time with only a single author statement(which might be changed at a later date but i'll go by what we have atm)
Regulus dunks on every other archbishop and nearly every witch(author excluded satella iirc,and it's likely that pandora and maybe hector as well are not in that equation).
Regulus is just really fucking stronk and challenging him head on is suicide bar the rein and those around that tier.
Echidna would have to sidestep him and avoid confrontation to not end up another splatter.

@@MC-ku4zz I know. He stops time on the object, but not himself, and then he can stand on it. If he uses Lion’s Heart only and then stands on air frozen in time then he can stand on it.
But yeah, two things stopped in time interact normally. Remember, Lion’s Heart just makes him invincible by stopping his heart in exchange for invincibility. Its Stillness of an Objects time that does the time-stopping.

If regulus can stop any attack how did petelgeuse managed to use the unseen hand and throw him away as it showed in the anime?
Because he stops the attacks, its not auto mode, he didnt knew about that attack, so he couldnt rly defend againts the first attack, even tho he still cant die from that
Cause it was a surprise attack, for his authority to work he still needs to activate it. Lion's heart is always active as long as his wife's are nearby but his stillness of an objects time needs to be triggered first. hence why after that first blow, all of petelguese punches were being deflected.

@@Bird-Birdy-Love Actually Lion's Heart IS auto-mode. Lemme explain. So, Lion's Heart allows him to defy all the laws of physics, so he could fall through the floor if he didn't control himself. Think about it. If you were unaffected by ANYTHING it would be pretty hard to move around, no? Also, he's human. So, he lets himself be affected by physical factors, so he can walk on the ground, but he's still invincible. When Petelgeuse slapped him, his neck spun around, but it didn't do anything to him. He was caught by surprise, but he was still invincible. Petelgeuse then attacks him again, but Regulus knows its coming, and makes himself unaffected by the attack.
So like, if you somehow took him by surprise and nuked him, it wouldn't do anything to him, other than give him a hell of a roller coaster ride.
Regulus reminds me a lot of Ellen Degeneres: they both wield great power in their worlds, think highly of themselves and bully other ppl around them while shifting the blame on to others for their doings.

Authorities do scale with the users compatibility with the sin in question. I think the author stated somewhere that the book of wisdom was created with Echidonas Authority so if that is the case her authority is definitely stronger than Regulus authority.
At that point it's basically semi-omniscience versus very limited time manipulation there's no question which is more powerful it's just that Regulus authority is highly suitable for combat
Regulus have the best Combat abiliti in the series but you can argue if Return by Dead, Echdnas Book of Wisdom or Pandoras Bullcrap is stronger that it overall

I don't think it's particularly powerful it's just that it's incredibly focused towards combat.
And Regulus does not have the best combat ability in the series.

Also this is probably one of the most powerful abilities I have seen in any fictional universe so i don't know how you can argue that it's not that strong. It grant's it's user absolute invincibility and have great destructive potential.
@Regulus Corneas If you're talking about the individual strongest combat ability than yeah regulus takes the win. But in most situations outside of combat it feels like a lot of the other authorities would be a lot more useful and therefore technically overall more powerful. And as for my am saying it's gimmicky If Subaru were to fight against Regulus without any outside help he would be able to figure out Regulus weakness and then beat him but if Subaru were to fight against let's say Capella it doesn't matter how many times he resets he individually can't beat her.

The witches called Subaru greedy because after the Tea Party, he decided (Thanks to Minerva and Satella's lecture.) to have everything.
He wants to allow his friends to have the perfect future, but won't pay the required sacrifice (his mind) to ensure so.
BUT he is still willing to undergo Immenss pain and stress right up until the point of losing his sanity, so long as at the end of it he can smile, he is willing to compromise and endure the pain.
Regulus is that type of Greedy, but won't compromise. He wants to have his ENDLESS rights, yet doesn't make the nesseccary sacrifice of respecting the rights of others to make up for it.
Echidna wants all the knowledge in the world, and now matter how much others are damaged by what she does to satisfy her curiosity, she selfishly continues to lust for knowledge, even though she herself regrets what she has done.
Greed is " intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food."
Regulus doesn't just want one thing
He wants to not be interfered with (but interferes with them)
He wants to not be spoken to in the wrong way (but speaks in ways he hates being spoken to.)

Echidna wants wants wants wants and wants what she had no reason to deserve, BUT actually takes all the necessary steps to achieve it. She will sometimes harm herself (figuratively) when doing so, meaning she does not just selfishly want. She actually tries to get it, even if it means sacrificing her other belongings.
That means that if she managed to achieve her knowledge, she would actually deserve it since she took every step to achieve it.

I just finished reading that fight and searchdd for a vid for clarification on and I wanna say a few things ..
1.Didnt Subaru said his Lion Heart ability can transfer to any living creature so that means Regulus Invincibility is perfect or was that only Subaru's theory
2.What is the condition for Regulus to transfer his heart? Emilia wasn't a wife and regulus clearly stated he doesn't want to have Emilia in his possession,(being one of his possession is my guess
3.i actually thought Regulus wouldn't die at least not immediately, I thought that he would get stuck in this cycle of using his invincibility to save himself then go back to the verge of death while trying to escape the hole, my idea is that Regulus dies being figuratively cast down on hell or never ending suffering till his body inevitably gives up or being buried alive with all his sins, hatred, and pitty being buried alongside him.. the last line did hint him about to die I guess (drowning or hearth failure)
and last thing.. no one absolutely no one would have been able to beat Regulus without the help Subaru lol
iirc the reason why regulus could transfer his heart to emilia is because they went to the church and did the ceremony albeit it was interrupted. If regulus could put it into any creature he would've just put it into subaru or even reinhard or anyone else.
But yes it can only go to his wives.
As for who can beat regulus, well, there are many other characters that can beat him albeit at priestella subaru was of course pivotal for them winning.

It's not like the author himself stated that. Lye is a character and he has limited knowledge so I don't know why many people take his words for objective truth.
Regulus can stop himselfmid-airr, and even if somehow he would be kicked out of the waterfall, there is still no proof it would actually kill him.
If we look at multiple interviews, Tappei said many times that Reinhard wouldn't be able to defeat Regulus without Subaru, which wouldn't make sense if throwing off the waterfall would be fatal to him.
Also, I think in one of the interviews Regulus was said to straight-up being able to jump back onto the world by Tappei tho I don't remember where I read it.
So the only person who can kill him is Reid, and maeby Satella but we have no information about her so idk.
When Reinhard defeats Regulus, I hope he tells someone that Reinhard can't defeat the Sin Archbishop of Greed without Subaru's assistance. And Subaru's accomplishments will become increasingly significant. Imagine the world's strongest man can't defeat someone without Subaru's help, and it's going to be well known to others. It's going to be epic. I can't wait for it. LMAO
1) The world doesn't really know that Reinhard is strongest. Most of people think that he is equal to Cecilus, Halibel and Crazy Prince.
2) Subaru is already popular enough to be little bit known in other nations. Its more than enough.

I am starting to understand how Subaru killed regulus in Re:Zero Pride if "subaru with elsa killed all his wife's by burning them in regulus's house together making the lion heart authority ultra weak and at the same time, elsa ambushed him from a burning door not giving him a chance to activate his lion heart that already had only 5 secons time limit she mutilated him not giving him a single second of doing something untill only his torso with the head were left and then they put him in the weaker burning fier of the house and watched together him burn" dam elsa and evil subaru are a nice cuple!

No it wouldn't work actually. For example Sirius ability allowed her to force someone to feel her emotions but it didn't work on Regulus. Also some of the witches have Mind Powers from what i remember and author have stated that Regulus can beat all of them ( Except Sateall) so it means that it wouldn't work on him

Well everyone has their own twist on the sin they represent both peronally and what theme the Sin takes (I mean, gluttony steals memories and looks, that could be envy). But the power of an authority really is more about the inherent magical power and the gimmick the factor takes from the user. Wrath for example works on connections, Minerva hated suffering and that the world was like that so the factor let her connect herself an others with the world and shift damage from peolpe to the world while Sirius was more direct in shering her own pain.

The sin archbishops by themselves are infamous due to the danger they represent, so subaru killing one does make him more famous due to the feat itself. Now since he lives in a mansion with multiple wives we can assume maybe he is some kind of a person of nobility?

From what I can remember, he does a ritual before he could give it to somebody, meaning he cant give it to anybody in a snap of a finger.

And its not confirmed whether he's alive or dead or what is he doing there in the first place. If im betting, Ryuzu entering the crystal gave Echidna a massive boost just like how it gave Roswaal the ability to summon the Snowstorm.
I think Echidna is powerful, but Regulus still beats her. Author already confirmed this in a theoretical fight between the Witches and the Sin Archbishops. Regulus' authority seems absolute defense and offense as long as his wives are hidden and alive. In a 1v1 (I would count Regulus' wives as part of him so it wont be confusing), Regulus should win without any problems.
so he is basically invincible literally.. reinhard lose against him in a pure on 1v1

Im a bit confused as to how Geuse or Reinhart managed to snap his neck and pick him up respectively? Does he have to anticipate the attack to use the stillness?
In short : Regulus have 2 powers
Lion's Heart: Allows him to stop his body in time which grants him absolute Invincibility as well as allows to ignore things like Thirst, hunger or breathing . Basically you can think of it as if in the moment he uses it he saves the current state of his body and no matter what happens it will not change. So no matter how strong someone hits him it will not harm his body in any way though the force of an impact can still knock him back and so on as the outside world can interact with him .
Stillness of An Object's Time : By stopping the time of an object he makes it impossible for anything from the outside world to influence him. This is the power he used to attack but he can also use it on himself. While using it on himself anything that touches him will disintegrate.
So Regulus normally walks around with only Lion's heart activated and only when he sees that attack is about to hit him he sometimes activates Stillness and completely nullifies the incoming strike. So when Betelgeuse hit him for the first time he didn’t expect that and only had Lion’s Heart activated and so while not suffering any damage he still got his head twisted by the force of the blow. After that he activated Stillness and unseen hand no longer had any effects on him

I'm confused...
So Stillness of an object's time stops time on an object, and Regulus freezes the dirt's time, making it look like spears and later, bullets, but why does it go through Pandora? Can he also control what happens to the frozen object and it's movements?
By using stillness of an object's time on a dirt he stops it time. Then as normal rules of physics doesn't apply to it he can throw it with an unnaturally high speed and as the time of this projectile is stopped then it is cut from any influence from the outside world which causes it to go through anything that comes into contact with it.
When he threw it into Pandora she couldn't interact with an as such it just passed through her shreading her in the process

Reid astrea cut through cor leonis (which is ironically the authority of greed. Also tappei has stated that reid astrea can behead regulus (and essentially everyone not named satella or reinhard)
@@Jakez123 Yeah but i think that one thing is being misunderstood about that. I don't think that Reid can just cut Regulus. All that he showed he was able to do was to cut through the bound of subaru. So by the same logic he would probably only be able to cut Regulus's bonds with his wives and not through his invincibility.
