- Is Predator the manliest movie ever made? Yes it is! Tom and Casey join Tony from Hack The Movies to talk about this classic film about the manliest men from earth fighting the ultimate manhunter from space. See what they have to say about this infinitely quotable sci-fi/action classic!
Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.

I've never seen this UA-cam channel before, but an hour long video about how predator is the manliest movie has fallen directly into the category of things I like.
This channel is awesome. Congrats on finding it.

"You son of a bitch" ( manliest Hi-5 ever )
In terms of how the actor who played the predator died: pneumonia was often what AIDS sufferers died from back in the day. After all, you don't die from AIDS itself, it just lowers your immune system so that you're more susceptible to things like pneumonia.
@druidofscosglen2868 why?
the giant pandemic that would kill half the planet by the 90s never happened.
clearly aids is not the threat we once thought it was.
i don't suppose you remember who it was that preached the end was nigh that time?
hint: it's the same guy who championed a cure that had the disease it was supposed
to cure listed as a side effect...
so, what are they dying of today?
Mark Lester made Commando not John Mctiernan. However he did make Last Action Hero with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Commando for me was the ultimate 80s action move. The feats of strength like ripping the car seat out and carrying the tree log. John Matrix rocks.
This movie is the reason I joined the army. Nothing exciting ever happened but that's probably a good thing...
Army got you pushing too many pencils. 😂
@@tonymcneill7779 pretty much lol
@@ernestjamesmusic995 still better than the special army in the Predator remake
I’ve heavily considered joining myself. Any advice there good sir?
@@jacksonscott690 yeah never call me sir lol. I'm a retired sergeant. All recruiters will lie so check with many sources to see if you're getting best deal. Bottom line it's a tough choice so only do it if you feel you need to...
what do you call a person who refuses to chew tobacco with Jesse Ventura
If I type that I'll get kicked off UA-cam
One of the best movies ever made. And why I love action movies so much. The perfect blend of cheese, and badass that make action movies great. That handshake is so hilarious/badass.
Only in the eighties could you have badass action and cheese and oneliners galore
It was so sad when that predator gently passed away in your store. I was really hoping you guys would keep firing for way too long.
I was dropped off opening day, 9 years old. I left the theater with hair on my chest and an insatiable hunger for tobacco.
The commercials didn't give away too much, action, jungle, guns and a scorpion. When that spaceship flew by I knew it was gonna be awesome.
The soundtrack is killer! The theme, that jungle drumbeat pulsing in is such a trademark sound. I can only think of those reverb pings in Goldeneye as something so bound to a movie's sonic atmosphere.
The whole movie is just magical dude fuel.
We need more Mctiernan movies in the world.
"Next movie Contacts" 1:12:50 had me in stitches.
I’m with Tony on this one….as a kid, me and my friends would play Predator out in the woods by my house with our toy guns. We’d even play it in the winter at night…in fact, there was one week where we had off from school probably for Christmas break, and we’d all rendezvous at our friends’ house and watch Predator…every day that week. Good times. This movie taught adolescent boys how to be men.
"I still don't know what's goin on in predator vision"
😆 🤣 😂
I saw this in a hotel with the family on the way to a wedding. I interested in the alien hunting the soldiers even if it gave me nightmares. It's surprising this movie feature three future Governors.
I was waiting for you to make this one for the longest time
Those muscles make quite an impression on you as a kid 💪🏼
My favorite Bill Duke scene is the one from Menace II Society. "You know you fucked up, right? 🤨👉"
I've always liked the first two Predator movies quite a bit. The second was just as good and it's good seeing people opening up to it.
I actually really enjoyed Predators. It was a nice return to form, but I'll freely admit it is far from perfect.
Its good but not JUST AS good as the first.
Ive been arguing for Predator 2 for years. Its probably the most underrated sequel ever. Loved Glover as Mike Harrigan. Also like how we learn more about the predator code and how the lost tribe respecting Harrigan for defeating the city hunter.
@@silvervalleystudios2486 and it has Bill Paxton completing the triumvirate. Killed by a Terminator, and Alien, and finally a Predator.
@@zacharyberridge7239 I forgot about that. Heart ripped out by a T-800. Self sacrificed himself with Vasquez to avoid being eaten by a Xenomorph and then taken out by a Yuatja.
YEEESSSSSSS. Now this is a movie I can get behind...unseen, thanks to my cloaking device.
John McTiernan didn't direct Commando. It was directed by Mark L. Lester (Firestarter, Class Of 1984, Showdown In Little Tokyo).
You can sum this movie up with one quote: "This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me." they wanted Arnie back for Predators but that didn't happen, perhaps there's a universe where it did happen 🤔
Oh please do the 1982 The Thing have me on the show ive seen that movie close to 50 times 😂
I'm hoping late June (40 year anniversary is June 25th)
I started this movie a boy, by the time it finished, I was smoking a cigar, drinking a Budweiser, and mailing an alimony check!
"Shouldn't plagiarize. That's what I learned" LMAO
Also, great guests
I need Tony to come into my class to say that to my English students
Terrible guests imo
@raynwolfsbane2084 steal from one its plagiarism, steal from many of its research.
YES, Predator is def the most manliest movie.
I can accept Jingle All The Way being someones favorite Arnold movie... it's stupid fun and very quotable.
Predator and Terminator 2 would be my 2 and 3 respectively, but the best Arnold movie is Total Recall..... incredible action, violence, Sci fi elements, a well-written story with twists, and it's just as quotable as his other best movies.
Great review as always!!!
10:01 I'm surprised no one knew, Arnold is allowed to smoke his stogies wherever he wants!
41:29 Tony "He screams Sergeant while he's doing it!"
Cut to the scene: "Contaaaaaaact!"
Wot hev yu smoked Tony?
Best Action movie ever. Just a bloody good testosterone filled action packed thrill ride filled with endlessly quotable lines.
I bet you have way more vhs copies of The Predator than I do but I still enjoy finding every different cover art vhs have a bluray and DVD special edition and anniversary edition
I've never been much for simping but this chick could get me to do anything.
Next up: Why 'Talking About Tapes' is The Manliest UA-cam Series Ever Made
30:50 Tony to quote the great Ian Malcolm, “Your fans were so preoccupied if they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
When the Predator says, "What the hell are you?", I think he means it. Like he's snarking back to Arnold, "What am I? What are YOU?" Predators seem very self-righteous to me, like spoiled kids. But it's definitely up for interpretation since it only repeats what others have said, but I always felt like that particular predator had a basic grasp of English, and probably Spanish too.
Great point you make, and to add to your point (or just clarify, if you'd thought if it and not spelled it out in your comment,) it's a great point that the Predator makes. We think of the Predator as a monster, but he's not killing his own kind for no good reason like we do. Just like Ripley's point to Burke about xenomorphs in Aliens.
Someone needs to do a compilation of Tony going "HAHAHAAUmmm"
I'm making an effort to cut those out more. I know it's something I usually do BUT last month I was battling allergies pretty bad. I was legit trying to catch my breath it some episodes. My bad.
When humans are finally gone from the face of the planet and future archaeologists dig up the remains of our once great civilization- I only hope that no other movie made by man is ever found. Predator should represent everything we were and everything we could’ve been. This, sir, it’s not a movie. Predator is the expression of human perfection disguised as a film.
Adam does movie cameo 👍 I approve
For the longest time I thought Mac yelled "CONTACT" not sergeant right after blanes death. Never did find out differently until the first time I saw predator with subtitles.
As a side note, the jungle shootout scene is exactly what I wanna do when the grass gets too tall in my yard.
I thought he said contact too but Isn't Dutch a major ?
@@kingkold yeah. Dutch was a major. Maybe it's just an opps on the subtitles
Have to say I lol'd the most I ever have while watching these vids. Good episode.
Nice to see you reviewing Predator! Hopefully Dick Masterson does come on board for Predator 2.
That would be great.
@@xenos_n. Well Tony said he would try to get Dick on the Predator 2 review
I'm in agreement, it's easily the manliest movie ever with Arnold/Dutch's primal roar (calling it a shout is just too weak) sparking that instinct of manning the fuck up to take on what's coming at you, the fear is gone and it's pure, raw determination to see it through to the bloody end.
Such an amazing, iconic movie. Great way to start a franchise.
I always assumed the Alien's eyes is just one big compound eye covering the entire skull.
IT'S NOT?!
me waiting for this to premiere: I'm heaaagh!! Do eeet! Come on! Do eeet now!!!
When I went to Puerto Vallarta, we went to the set location where they fought/blew up opposition at the onset of the film...They still have a helicopter (i believe from the movie) with a full scale Predator on top of it...
Good shit Tony love all the videos
Mac screams "contact!" to let his team know there is enemy contact and he is about to engage and open fire. Also Mac, Billy and Blain are sergeants, if he was calling for Dutch he would have screamed Major. (The subtitles are wrong.)
That "Virginity" joke is underrated
Laughing at "Shit Dat Didn't Work !!!" Replaying it over and over again 🤣🤣🤣
12:42 Manliest handshake in cinema ever.
41:11 Tony: "The most excessive scene ever."
41:57 Me: "I think you mean Tony the most manliest gun scene in the history of movies. That should get its own poster and the slogan should be called American made."
42:37 Show of hands to those that love the first Predator movie.
"Wouldn't putting mud on you insulate you and keep the heat from escaping"
Yes Tony! If the you're insulated and your heat's not radiating, it's not getting picked up by an infrared camera.
John McTiernan also directed "The 13th Warrior". Another cult classic action flick especially among Viking movies.
Loved the Alien vs Predator Capcom game. The cyborg was my main, I plan on cross playing her for a con. As soon as I figure out that crazy ponytail………
Tom: Why do you run in the woods so often?
Tony: Because of the porn people leave there
Predator, Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and Commando all seem to be my favorite when I’m watching them.
Absolutely one of the best action sci-fi movies. Great episode!
As to them reloading they do reload during the mowing down of the jungle scene.
My number 1 favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of all time!
Facts you didn't know about the movie:
Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit which looked like a giant lizard insect hybrid. He wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused.
Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the movie and would return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990.
Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, 7'2" was cast as the titular alien as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch
Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches.
Arnold would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed.
Sonny Landham RIP whom played Billy hired a bodyguard to protect people from him as he was on prone to violent outbursts.
Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us."
It was 110 degrees in the shade while it was 42 degrees at night.
It rained for 2 weeks making filming even more difficult.
The film was a box office success making $100 million dollars ($350 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget.
It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace
Shocker, anyone who got the DVD knew all this. Anyone who had access to Wikipedia 10 years ago knew this. Most of these were referenced in this video.
I would love to see more reviews with music from Alan Silvestri... please please review Flight of the Navigator!!
Mac didn't say sargent before that shoot out, he actually says contact. Contact is a quote you hear a lot in Predator Hunting Grounds.
Predator/II has a feel unlike any other movie I have seen or seen since. It's not been replicated with modern sequels and it probably never will. It took risks, and in those risks created tropes still used in movies, but hollywood today do not take risks to create, it just keeps trying to capture what other movies have already did.
Saw this movie in 1987 when I was 6 years old with my dad when he rented it opening day and it is still my favourite movie of all time
When Mac levels the jungle with the mini gun, he yells CONTACT! not Sergeant.
Not according to the subtitles. But yeah I always hear " contact" not sergeant.
@@johnbubba1143 He definitley yells KONTAKT! in the german version.
@@michaelbreidenbach2834 i believe it. I've always heard it as contact.
Yelling SGT. When your CO is a major or just yelling sergeant when seeing the enemy doesn't seem like a good idea.
I always thought the predator left Hawkins body behind in the trees because it knew they wouldn’t know to look up, probably hid and waited for them to move on before returning to claim it’s trophy.
I remember the first time I watched predator I was in the 5th grade it was on UPN so I'm sure it was significantly censored. I told my Sunday school teacher the next day about it and it was the first time I can remember being told that what I watched was not appropriate. All I really remembered was thermal vision and a mini gun blasting down the forest.
Shane Black probably had his eyes took seeing how he was originally supposed to be the map and tech guy or it was before the established head or skin trophy lore and it might have been a kill to eat later
That is brilliant. Taking him out first was key
@@kingkold That is pretty good, I was thinking that he took his tongue because he doesn't shut up, plus he's the radio operator for the team.
@@KAKnyght might be more accurate with the script and movie that we got
I remember being between 4-6 years old hiding behind the couch when the predator took his mask off haha
Just watched Prey and realized Tony was onto something with the skulls thing
Billy and Mac are both in Action Jackson with Carl Weathers. I feel like Tony would have seen that.
I love action Jackson
@@HackTheMovies 😄👍👍
I still to this day use that scene when they shoot up the forest as a reference for any new surround sound setup i invest in.
He doesn't shout "Sergeant", he shouts "Contact", jus sayin 👍
Good lord Casey is gorgeous! .. Great video, that Arnie scream is the manliest shout ever, no one comes close to that declaration of war!
Hell yes!!!!
I think that when they showed Hawkins in the tree it was before he started taking his skull as a trophy and FYI Billy is in Action Jackson with Carl Weathers
These two guests are great. Bring ‘em back!
Dem thighs😛😛😛
No, just no.
Tom, your shirt is freaking awesome. Way better than the other shirts on the show.
You think it's just a generic 80s version of the Expandables but it turns into a sci-fi horror thriller, it's genius!!
Tony is amazing!!!!!
Predator does Rule!!
Great video! We discovered the movie on a tv recorded tape at a friend’s house in the mid 90s. Very intense and awesome experience.
By the way, the actress in Predator 2 is Maria Conchita Alonso (Running Man).
still to this day the yell from Arnold Schwarzenegger gets me hyped lol
I saw this on HBO right as it premiered on cable TV. Scared the pants off me, I was 10. The head explode thing especially.
Imagine that unloading scene extended to 10 minutes
The first time i saw predator i'm pretty sure it was on tv , can't remember when i first saw it uncut but i do know i was like " woah " . Lol
Without realizing it I think Tony pronounced Jaws correctly 🤣
I DID?
The second predator was my first predator movie. I enjoyed that concrete jungle feel.
I saw this movie when I was 10 but the first time I saw it I missed the opening with the space ship, so my intro scene was being introduced to Arnold and his band of mercenaries, then jungle assault and all of a sudden there was an alien 🤣 kinda jarring but legitimately added to the terror of the predator. It wasn't until years later and I saw the actual opening with the spaceship and honestly the movie doesn't need that scene to me it was way more horrifying being in the thick of the madness without the context of "this is an action movie were Arnold fights and alien warrior".
I know the captions have Mack saying “sergeant” but I’m pretty sure he’s saying “contact” 🤷🏻♂️. Either way, not to throw dirt on rental reviews but this is SO much better than that content for the best movie ever made. Thanks super famous Tony 👍🏼
Sonny Landham was great in 48 Hours and Lock Up. Apparently, he was a pro on set when he needed to be, but did have a short temper.
Awesome review but I am disappointed you didnt talk about Predator the musical. YT it, it is amazing.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Not a single mention of Austrian Death Machine. Tony must turn in his man card.
Oh. What's that. He was never issued one. That tracks.
u r correct sir
Awesome! I love Predator....wait ... No Crystal in this vídeo...., Byeeee!
I first saw it when i was 18 on its VHS release in Australia in 1988 ... great film ... in fact the manliest movie ever made!
A testosterone fueled masterpiece. Fantastic. Also, there is some reloading done during the deforestation scene. But only then.
I've always considered THE DIRTY DOZEN to be the ultimate guy movie. But PREDATOR comes so close that when I first saw the trailer for it, before they got to the monster stuff, I thought it had to be a remake. Either that, or the G.I. Joe live-action movie I wanted so badly (not knowing then that years later we'd get several terrible live-action Joe films that were anything but macho action classics).
Yea I can confirm I am now a simp for Casey I never thought I would fall into this abyss.
A true classic 📼 movie 📼 A true classic episode 📺
Arnold roaring is the war cry of the Gods.
I had a coworker whose grandfather thought the predator was a ghost not an alien
the female remake would be super short; they would put down their weapons so the predator would stop hunting them and then order an airstrike after getting back to the choppas.
I was 6 when I first saw this movie and it's still my favourite movie. However, the version I first saw was one taped off cable TV. So all the swear words were cut and most of the gore.
It’s not the manliest movie ever made, it’s the GREATEST movie ever made
Close. The greatest movie ever made is road house and Joel silver produced that.
40:00 is perfect comic timing
