Can we have Frank as a reoccurring member? He checks all the criteria for Hack The Movies: does his research, he's Italian, makes fun of Crystal, etc, etc.
The horse head was real. Coppola said in the commentary on the DVD that they bought it from a dog food processing plant. The horse had already been slaughtered. Remember, the ASPCA didn’t start monitoring treatment of animals in movies until the 1980 western “Heaven’s Gate,” in which 4 or 5 horses died during the shooting of a battle sequence.
Lots of symbolism in The Godfather. I like how Michael's change in appearance reflects the state of the Corleone family. Earlier in the film his face is slightly chubby looking, he's got a more traditional haircut, and has a more innocent look. As he takes over control for/from Vito his face thins out, his jawline becomes more promininent, his eyes deepen and he gets a more stylish haircut. He's the new face of the Corleone family, so to speak.
Shoutout to Frank and Trisha, your insight was really fun to watch in this episode! Tony, keep up the great content man you really make the week better 🎥
This was a great one. Perfect panel choice. Can’t wait for Schindler’s List with Justin.😉I love the sequel too. Can’t decide which is better. I think the original may be better. But I love young Vito’s story so much. Look forward to the video on part 2.
One of the best episode of Hack the Movies and probably the best panel too. We need more Frank and Trisha in future episodes. Hopefully they return for part 2.
It's time to pay a visit to HACK THE GODFATHER. You'll find Famous Mobster Tony, Trisha, and Frank as they talk about the classic "The Godfather." Refuse and you'll be sleeping with the fishes.
Love how everyone is Italian in this episode and dressed up for this show. Tony even dressed up in his Balboa sweater. Can’t wait to watch this at work shhhhh don’t tell management.
Another movie that makes me think of my mother (she is big into mafia movies as well as Universal Monsters). The horse reveal, the toll booth scene, the christening montage, and the moment where the godfather has that orange in his mouth were great moments.
Warren Beatty, Ryan O'Neal, Dustin Hoffman, Martin Sheen, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford, James Caan and Jack Nicholson were almost cast as Michael Corleone.
When Michael sees in the paper that his father was shot, it’s not the next day. Back then they had morning and evening newspapers. Looks like he was out with Kay all day, so he wouldn’t have talked to the family.
This movie and Jaws are also probably considered to be the only adaptations that are considered superior to the original source material that they're based on and I can say I agree since I've read both books as well.
I saw the trilogy at such a young age, and left such an impression on me that whenever I see Marlon Brando's scene I forget instantly about all the spoofs, loved it through and through, and like LOTR, I revisit them from time to time. Same with Aliens, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist or The Shining, my mind tends to separate spoofs from the original automatically whenever I see movies I saw as a kid that left emotional scars on me xD. Sort of fun fact: Lots of German nazis came to Argentina as well as pro Mussolini Italians after WWII and were given Argentinian passports and citizenships, mostly to stay in the Patagonian region, Córdoba (a central province), Buenos Aires and the northern regions limiting with Brazil (easier to escape), Mengele died in brasil after escaping from Argentina and Adolf Eichmann was caugh here.

yeah, were going to need Frank back immediately, feels like hes been talking about movies forever, and just like tony said, frank has great insight on movies and always gives his opinion, respectfully !
Great review guys. Can't wait for the Godfather Part 2 and Scarface reviews. Modern audiences would watch this and probably be like "So boring! Where's the CGI, explosions and chase scenes?"
Great episode! It’s always Fine and Fun to see “3 Italians, 1 movie” to talk about lol I really hope to see y’all review/talk about part 2 and 3 as well And possibly, the comedy “Mafia”. And we can’t forget, more wine and Cannolis. Keep up the great work everyone 🙌🏼
Half way thru and I’m really digging the Italian perspective on this classic movie. Would this panel ever do Cinema Paradiso? I’d really enjoy watching you talk about that movie.
First off, bravo review! Second, while listening to the podcast version of this had the best timing add. It’s when waltz is slandering Italians, then it immediately cut to an add starting with: *yawn* “Monday’s! “ and I legit thought it was still on the episode, and just one of the host being like “yeah, Italians have heard it all. Just another day. Move on” lmao
I'm surprised that nobody caught on to the fact that the guy who voices Fat Tony on The Simpsons was in The Godfather part 3. Joe Mantegna is the actor's name.
cant believe the godfather is all ready 50 years old god were has the time gone love the first movie it is a classic and it paved the way we look at mafia movies in the future
I've realized sometime ago that Kay was the rebound, she's the safety net for Michael she's someone he's familiar with rather than him finding another woman to date & marry after Apollonia was killed. Michael was lusting after Apollonia but he couldn't have her unless he married her Kay had a chance to flee but didn't. And man, I love Frank he's the best on this podcast since he's Italian he's really got a great insite on this film.
You guys look like the 3 wops from superman 2, ya know the ones that fly around in sparkly black outfits. This is so cute guys, it's like watching Harry Potter. I think Toni is finally starting to break out of his awkward phase, he showed the first signs in this video. 'Toni Potter and The Goblet of Choir(boys)', like your guests.
So, here's my thing. They did the Godfather thing with pigeons on Animaniacs for YEARS. They called their version the God-Pigeon. Why, in a show filled with AMAZING puns, did they miss the opportunity to call him "The God-Feather?" IT'S RIGHT THERE, DAMN IT, AND THEY MISSED IT LIKE A LATE BUS!!!
I wasn't quite in middle school when the 25th anniversary of The Godfather released otherwise it would have only been on DVD instead of both VHS and DVD
49:44 pretty sure the person with the orange in the wedding scene is sal tessio, who is later killed on michael’s order for portraying the family to barzini. the oranges are used as omens of impending death/trafedy. there are also FAR MORE than 3 oranges in the first movie: tessio at the wedding; tartaglia/barzini at the 5 families meeting; tom’s dinner with jack woltz; vito buying oranges before the attempted assassination; vito’s death in the garden; and possibly more.
25:24 See I feel like Johanna got her revenge when this wouldn't upload 5 times yesterday. I just looked it up and $600K would be like $9.5 million today(!!!). I was getting confused the other day, the Godfather game is actually good, The Sopranos game is crap. and Yes Tony you are right. Joe Mantegna is reading the Godfather audio book.
This is one of the better panels. Both guests are insightful. I find is very difficult to watch the episodes with Crystal, which I tend to skip, as she is notorious in talking over people.
To inform the horn thing with the cornicello the pepper depending on region is called the horn and part of the culture is you have to make the horn hand symbol(like the rock and roll 🤘🏼 hand gesture) palm down and slightly flick your wrist to ward off evil. A truly great movie. I didn't see the trilogy until 2018 on Netflix, over an extended weekend. It was a great viewing experience. The first movie is still the best of the trilogy, in my opinion.

making fun of crystal and never inviting her again would make the show perfect
Bring back the true goat.
Frank is great in this episode. Agree. Replace Crystal with Frank.
Why can’t we have Frank, and Crystal? 🤷🏾
Frank is great more Frank would b great 😎👍
It's nice that Tony invited Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise over to talk about The Godfather movie.

One of the best episode of Hack the Movies and probably the best panel too. We need more Frank and Trisha in future episodes. Hopefully they return for part 2.
I'm so happy you guys decided to review this movie! This trio is awesome and has to return!
The hilarious thing is that Godfather audiobook actually IS narrated by Fat Tony's voice actor, Joe Mantegna.
Neat
That’s dope
I love how Trisha kept going into Italianisms, and Frank, her own brother, was kinda like "Okay, relax." 😂
Those were your best guests.
You gotta have Trisha and Frank on more often.
They're the best!
Awesome review guys!
Literally my favorite movie of all time and I’ve always hoped you guys would sit down with this group and do this exact movie. So fucking happy.

This was great. I love Trish and Frank. The Italian culture and insight really added a lot. Tony, you're great as always.

I’m surprised there weren’t any fascist jokes. Lol.
Misha You're Fired!
I don’t know why, but I absolutely love Hack the Movies!
About a king and his three sons. A film about succession. Masterclass of cinema

@@HackTheMovies yo Tony in The Godfather game you play as the guy who sneaks in the horse head

Warren Beatty, Ryan O'Neal, Dustin Hoffman, Martin Sheen, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford, James Caan and Jack Nicholson were almost cast as Michael Corleone.
Jack Nicholson? It would be too much of him than Michale Corleone.
Everyone on set: JESSICA, DID THEY USE A REAL HORSE HEAD, LOOK IT UP.
Jessica: I don't think I wanna play anymore......
When Michael sees in the paper that his father was shot, it’s not the next day. Back then they had morning and evening newspapers. Looks like he was out with Kay all day, so he wouldn’t have talked to the family.

Frank and Trisha are incredibly well-adjusted people. Almost too socially functional compared to the rest of the Hack The Movies crew.
The Godfather is terrific but I do prefer Goodfellas for its comedy, energy and attention to details. Also, JOE PESCI.
I also liked Fugget About It lol
Robin Hood men in tights did the best godfather impression
