One thing I wish you guys had touched on was Microsoft's decision to bundle the Kinect with the Xbox One at launch. MS had put so much faith in Kinect that ultimately they had to make sacrifices, and Kinect had to be factored into the cost of the console itself. Which meant that a large part of that budget was taken up by shipping with Kinect. Which meant a less powerful (and cheaper) console shipped.
Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot with that decision.

I was looking for this very comment. The weaker hardware is entirely the result of wanting to shoehorn in the Kinect. You think that someone important on the development team would've realised that it was going to be a waste of time and manufacturing budget to revise a glorified camera, and to try and rekindle the excitement for it. It cost them BIG time.
The Kinect was the most over engineered disaster. God knows how much money they lost on each unit of this super advanced sensor bundle.
Kinect came off the back off the Wii success which outsold both 360 and PS3, I believe Xbox truely felt they needed a serious response to Wii and thus bundled Kinect. But yes I agree it cost in terms of hardware. And now Nintendo has basically moved away from motion controls.
thats not an excuse, whether they included the kinect or not or they sold it cheaper, it wont change the story. they cant compete toe to toe with sony, because if they can they should have sold atleast 70 million by now againts the ps4, because the ps3 sold well despite having a bad launch, $500 price tag, and xbox 360 year advantage. they lost, end of story, no excuses.

I got the One S simply because it was cheap on a special sale. Hardly used it, but keeping it for the 4k media capabilities including Blu-ray.
Get Game Pass if you don't want to dedicate purchasing games for it. Im staying at my cousin's house atm and all he's into is 4k blu rays movies on his S, but we've played a lot of games together thanks to Game Pass

You being a retro inclined person, Xbox One makes sense to have, because it will run Xbox and Xbox360 games. PS4 doesn't run PS3 or PS2 discs.

They're pretty much the same hardware wise, Project Cars 1 was mostly the only game where the S was better in frame rate
They are using xbox one s in all the comparison.. Overall performance resolution and texture quality is just the same as the original xbox one...

that's what I'm saying all the time. People don't get that. The PS4 is just more expensive. On sales you get thrown one s at you like snowflakes fall down on christmas eve. Just pick one up and you got the arguably most beautiful current gen console, which plays 4k Blu ray (ps4 doesn't), has all the media apps in a very updated state (not to compare with old ass weird smart tvs with blurry apps etc).

Don Mattrick still haunts the Xbox division.
Phil Spencer’s done a nice job turning things around after Mattrick singlehandedly set them back 5 years.
That said, I love the Xbox One X and feel MS is in good shape heading into the next console generation.
The X is still a multimedia box at heart and UHD support further drives that point home as the original Xbox One doesn't support the feature no Xbox One game can be made using UHD disks making UHD support useless for the purposes of gaming!
And that is just one example.

Don Mattrick was so bad that it's been almost 6 years since the reveal of the Xbox One and he still puts everyone off buying one.
The OG One was completely a product from the collected data the xbox team got from 360 user data. It was being used more than 50% for non-gaming activities, and the One was logically designed around that.

Because the PS3 had a similar problem with its architecture. It took more time, effort and money to get games on par with the 360

I loved my 360 to death last generation, but they really blew it this gen. What frustrates me most though is that despite being #1 this gen, Sony is positively killing it with sales and price cuts while Microsoft continues to phone it in. Sony goes for the throat by packing in games like Spider Man into their holiday bundle bundle while Microsoft phones it in with widely available old games like Minecraft. It's like they just don't care any more.
They do offer any first party exclusives on day one with Game Pass. That's gotta count for something, right?

Cavey Möth I totally agree. I have both a PS Pro and an Xbox One S. I go from one system to the other regularly, and never once have I thought the S was not in the same "generation". I even bought Red Dead Redemption 2 for play on the S and it really does look very decent, and I'm playing on a 4K TV. Not saying that the S competes with the Pro and games like Horizon Zero Dawn or God of War, but hell if Forza Horizon 4 and Gears of War 4 running with HDR on the "under powered" Xbox One S, look and run as good as they do, I don't think the S is quite dead yet. If Microsoft were willing and able to drop the price of the S to 149.99 it would be a very, very good deal.

I have a base PS4..but I want a PS4 Pro Plus, one that can play games at 4k 60 fps, as well as play UHD blurays. AKA, I wish the PS4 Pro could rival the Xbox One X.
@@CaveyMoth the only hope for that is if they make the ps5 fully backwards compatible. In theory it should be completely possible if the ps5 is x86-64 based as the ps4 is. It would natively play the old gen games without the need for emulation. The only problem is that they would have to patch each game to take advantage of the new hardware. I.E. "turn up the settings", or else they'd still run as they do on the ps4. Just like the way Pro patches work. Games with dynamic resolution and variable framerate would benefit regardless, but not to the extent of a game that's patched to truly take advantage of the new hardware.
An x is just a port and some ram. You think im paying double for that. They dont sell enough x units to even justify the nonsense these nonses are chatting.

the best console is the one you already have. unless you want to try the ps4 exclusives or get a 4K TV there's no real reason to change it
I'm actually forced into using my base box until I get my One X out the pawn shop, needed a quick loan and now I'm saving to get it back out.
I don't think you guys did a good enough job of differentiating between the Original Xbox One and The One S. By only mentioning the Xbox One you didn't separate the clear performance gap between the two lower tier systems. The One S is able to upscale to 4K and support HDR for games. It also natively supports 4K HDR for streaming video and UHD Blu-rays. By not mentioning these factors you have done a disservice to your overall critique.

As an owner of the original fat Xbox one, I have no flipping idea what you're talking about. Maybe when you spend more time counting pixels and frames than playing games you see things a certain way, but so far nothing prevents me from enjoying my games on my original fat
For $200 on sale, the One S is still a great value and hold up very well on 1080p TVs and in a living room setting. Playing RDR2 on mine was a great experience from start to finish. I don’t think the RDR2 comparison shots they used were all that bad. Temporary drops in the most demanding areas isn’t a deal breaker for me. Its a rock solid 30fps like 97% of the time. MS should cut the price permanently though.
The base Xbox one and the Xbox one S are weaker than the competition sure, but they are still solid systems that the general consumer can enjoy. I currently own a base PS4 and both an Xbox one X and an Xbox one S, I have the S in my winter / summer home in California, and my X in my apartment in New Mexico. I have been playing RDR2 on my S primarily since I have been on break the last 2 weeks. Yes, it does look worse than my X, but the game is still 100% playable, and 100% enjoyable. Playing 30 hours on the X and 90+ hours on the S has not at all had a negative impact on my enjoyment of that game. I'm sorry, but I don't sit there going "Oh lord, if only this game was 1080p and not 860p I could really enjoy it!." Similarly, nobody said that, for example, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time was an unplayable and unenjoyable mess on the N64, yet that game was capped at around the mid 20s FPS and routinely dropped into the low 20s and teens for extensive periods of game play. Was it still a masterpiece of a game that millions of us enjoyed? Hell yes it was. I'm not saying we should be happy to play games at 20 FPS, or that we should accept spotty and variable framerates in our games, I'm saying that, in most cases, the games on Xbox one S are perfectly playable and enjoyable for most consumers. Further, this obsession with frame rate in console games really didn't come about until the tail end of the last generation beginning of this generation, where consoles became much more comparable to PCs, and exclusive console games began to decrease in favor of a cross-platform release that included PC. This made "comparing" to the top dog (PC) very easy since the same game was available everywhere.
I think the Xbox one S and base systems are fine if you are not someone who is nitpicking about resolution and 1-3 dropped frames once in a while (I realize that the audience for this channel might not be the general consumer). The vast majority of games that release run well on the system, even if you get a few more frame drops than the base PS4. The general consumer, the person who is just picking up a console to play a handful of games a year, barely notices any difference. They primarily go where their friends are, for some that is on PS4 (for most TBH since it is the more successful platform), for others that is on Xbox One. One final point, I was playing RDR2 on my Xbox one S on a 42 inch 1080p TV this New Years. I had 3 friends over, all who have the game on PS4 and I would consider more "casual" gamers who buy 3-4 games a year. We played the game for several hours messing around the world and at some point I mentioned the fact the game was running a bit blurrier than the PS4 version. I asked if they had noticed it, they all said they didn't until I brought it up. Again, the general consumer doesn't care as long as the game is still perfectly playable and enjoyable.

@@IMDLEGEND Me too, i agree and don't forget you can play your 360 games. It worths the price and generally speaking it's a good deal by considering that yeah the ps4 has won the generation but.. It has cost a lot for most of the time and this is not goooood. I add that many of my friends and myself are discovering the generation right now because more convenient.
I can somewhat relate. I have two PS4s (one normal and one Pro) and four Xbox Ones ( an original, two S, one X) and I go from room to room playing my games. While the X on my 4K TV is my "go to" device, I never feel disappointed playing on any of my other consoles.
Yeah but these guys are cutting edge graphics guys, that's their thing. I love watching these videos even though I'm still playing my old xb360 and older PC games. I just chuckle when Richard says 'oh it looks much worse' and I sort of strain my eyes to barely discern what he's talking about. It's funny. I want to know what's going on at the cutting edge, but I don't actually want to be cut on it. I still have catching up to do, and the last generation seems to have better games. There's like twenty xb360 games I want to play, whereas I can hardly see ten games I want to play in this new generation. I haven't really liked any Rockstar games since GTA San Andreas, that was the most fun one to me. I switched to Saints Row after being disappointed by GTA4, and haven't looked back. In fact I think there being no Saints Row 5 is why I have skipped this gen. Wake me up when Saints Row 5 is out, then I might buy this new Xbox chimney looking thing. But honestly a lot of these new games look technically beautiful, but also basically look like boring Hollywood cookie cutter blockbusters. Sure the graphics are cutting edge, but where's the edgy gameplay? For example Spider-Man looks supremely beautiful, hats off to that, but I've been playing Prototype on xb360 and it's much cooler, it's basically like being Venom, which is cooler than being Spider-Man. They should have made a Venom game for PS5! Instead of just another Spider-Man.

Original model Xbox is clearly a cheaply made media box that happens to play games. Utterly trash to call it a console. The S is what it should've been from day one. The PS4 has the same or better parts. Its intent clear. It's games aren't on other platforms. It was set up for failure from the start

I'm definitely not a pro but I have several Xbox Ones. An Xbox One X connected to a 4K TV, an S connected to a 1080p TV, an S connected to a G-Story portable gaming screen, and an original connected to a 1080p screen. I buy all of my games digitally and I don't ever really feel like I'm getting a degraded experience no matter which device I use.

You decry the 'death' of the OG xbox one, but havenb't even mentioned the OG ps4 for a year.
Here's the thing. After I got an XB1X at Christmas 2017, I thought I'd sell off my S and that'd be the end of it. But after getting a second 4K TV, I decided to keep it as a Blu-ray player. I later discovered that many games on the S support HDR and work really well with FreeSync 2 when the frame-rate doesn't hit 30/60 consistently.
The S does a good job of upscaling to 4K, so I still play a few games on it and it's comparable to a base PS4 (if you happen to have the right TV with FreeSync 2 support and HDR). If Microsoft ever released an updated version with only GDDR5 (no eSRAM) on the 7nm process with maybe higher clocks, it could still be a good entry-level console for a few years yet.
Funny thing is that the One's main Selling point, the ability to use it not JUST for gaming but as a multimedia online Device, is probably the biggest change consoles have undergo this generation, which is their ability to be used not just for gaming but for streaming Netflix, Prime, UA-cam, Twitch and the others. The design of the One in that way was always correct so to say as it predicted the future behavior of its customers pretty accurately. Only problem back then was the PR's focus on TV (who actually watches TV anymore?) and Kinect just not really working (although it is and was a great concept). All in all it is still a great console with many outstanding games.
Its useless and grows more useless by the minute. TV makers and even blue ray players have more and more multimedia functions nowadays.

It was a great vision for the future. People just love to piss and moan about change yet they do it anyways. People acted like it was such a big deal to have to be connected to the internet when 90% of people’s consoles have been connected to the internet since they’ve been turned on for the first time.

I got the S about six months ago and it is awesome. I almost always buy consoles 3 or 4 years after their release. For me it is better like that since I got cheaper videogames and patches already applied to them. For that and more, it is never the end until I sell my console. So, I don't care if next year Microsoft releases a new one.

Yeah I always wait until the second hand market have plenty of games. I bought my Xbox One S nearly 2 years ago and I love it. I rarely buy games full price and rely on Ebay and sales and even the console was £50 cheaper than the PS4 (including games) one of which was Gears of War that I sold straight away taking another £40 off the price!!!
I also did the same thing but with ps4. I bought ps4 slim 500 gigs 6 months ago with the bundle of 3 games and 3 months ps plus included.
Same thing i did with ps3 and ps2 back in 2015 and 2010 respectively.
I don't do that, I buys consoles straight away. It feels good owning new tech.

The unfortunate thing about the Xbox One/S is that most developers seem to choose the base PS4 as the lead platform when creating their games, then scale up for the Pro and X and scale down for the base Xbox One which leads to undesirable results in terms of resolution and frame-rate. Best two examples I can think of are Red Dead Redemption 2 which is native 1080p on base PS4, stunning 4k on the X and something like 864p on base Xbox. Similarly, DOOM and Wolf II were 1080p 60fps on base PS4 and 900p 40-60 fps on base Xbox One/S.
Simply because base ps4 is 50% more powerful than xbox one/S
@@goldensperm7182 In term of teraflops PS4 is 40% more powerful (1.84 vs 1.31) which is still quite significant for consoles released at the same time. PS4 also has faster GDDR5 ram.
@Sterman99 yeah and thay had the chance to compensate for their mistakes if they had released great exclusive games, but now it's too late.
This was covered in the video. It's because it's easier to develop for the PS4. Just like the 360 was the leading console last gen because it was easier to develop for it.

the xbox one was a flawed design on launch, but I dont know if thats a reason to release a new gen of consoles, by your own admission the base ps4 is still ok and that was launched at the same time.
The xbox one S probably should have corrected the flaw, so keeping the same gpu spec as base xbox one, but fixing the vram issue, however they didnt do that.
if they did that developers would need to target 3 systems now, and all day one customers would still have these sub par versions

They can say it in the video, but the base PS4 is not still okay. It only looks okay by comparison to the PS4 Pro, because the PS4 Pro is an utter failure as a mid-generation upgrade. But the base PS4 is often times unable to maintain 30 FPS in games, let alone hit 60 FPS which should have become standard by now. The PS4 also stupidly, and this was stupid even for 2013 when they released it, uses SATA2 for its hard drive data transfer which results in slow installs and long loading times that you can't even fix with an SSD because SATA2 is such a bottleneck. The PS4 is in dire need of replacement with a proper upgrade to the PS5.
The only console that's still okay right now is the Xbox One X. PS4 Pro, PS4, and Xbox One S? Replace them all. The only reason I even keep my PS4 around these days is for Yakuza.

I don't have a 4K television at the moment and I'm using my Xbox One S. Are these guys saying my console is now obsolete? The One X is very very expensive and I had to leave work and claim disability after a two year fight with a horrible illness. I can't afford to replace not just my console, which I just got, but also my television. I'm playing Fallout 76, Horizon Chase Turbo, Fallout 4 and FIFA 19. They all seem to be running well with the S machine and its only a few months old.

@@Jpilgrim30 I have to agree with you 100% John. The One S is still a fantastic gaming machine and I still love my LG 1080p television. All my games run really well and I'm not missing out on titles as its the same catalogue of games for both the X & S. If you already have a 4k television and are still using the original Xbox One then sure if you can afford it I'm sure it would be a great upgrade.
@@WhiteHawk77 I agree with you WhiteHawk that its coming but there is still nothing out that will cause you to upgrade your television or Xbox One S immediately. The One X is a phenomenal gaming system but most people don't need to upgrade immediately. There are no exclusives for the One X, sure there are patches for older and newer games that will allow them to run at 4k and at 60fps. Its not a must have system, most people who buy the machine do so because they want to and not because they have to. I say best of luck to everyone that does but at the moment my setup is serving me extremely well at the moment. I will certainly get a new system when a new console is released that is next generation with exclusive games. The One S is far from dead IMHO buddy
I was Playstation 4 user since day one and I sold it like 6 months ago, and now im a Xbox One S like a month ago And im so fucking happy with backwards compatibility and all ecosystems like gamepass. I mean I feel so comfortable with XOS and I think that the future will be for Microsoft (Scarlet). So thank Mr. Spencer.
Digital Foundry why even bring up the switch in this comparison? It’s a tablet. Since when is comparing the power of a tablet to a console fair?
The problem is that devs took the easy way out, ie lowered resolution and called it day. On my PC i turn everything down except resolution to reach my desired frame rate. I can get used to a lowered shadow quality, AA, etc but looking at a non native resolution ALWAYS bothers me. Considering the small power differential between the base systems it's like the devs just didn't care.

Microsoft only focused on media, not gaming in which where they failed. While Sony focused on gaming.

The Xbox One S still holds up in 2019 it can still play games at 1080p at 30fps with a few/couple compromises. Its good for a console gamer who's on a budget. The Xbox One X is the console moving forward because of its capability to go 1080p, 1440p and 4K. If I wanted a console to just go on UA-cam, Netflix or watch movies get an S or if you want to game and you want the full experience wait for the next Xbox or get a used Xbox X or wait till its price drop.
My ultimate question to microsoft is what they will do to convince millions of people to buy their next gen console instead of PS5? PS5 will be just as powerful as thier upcoming console and you will play on PS5 with GoW V, Horizon 0 Dawn 2, New Uncharted and all the new editions of Sony's exclusives. Microsoft has nothing to convince people to buy their product now and I dont think they will come up with something extraordanary. They do not have console exclusives. I am currently playing with Forza Horizon 4 on PC, so why would I buy an Xbox?

@@jonathanmora8208 PS5 will be definetely backward compatible. Sony sold almost 90 million PS4 and by the time PS5 will be out this number will reach 105 at least. Every PS4 user want to play their games on PS5 as well so Sony actually must make this move.

Sold my xbox one last year, besides needing the money just did not feel compelled to keep it as games i liked were on Pc
so you sold your xbox console and you continued to play xbox on pc. thats is a viable option these days.

Will be using my Battlefield 1 army green Xbox One S until about 1.5 years after the next gen Xbox launches.
I just got my One S delivered today bundled with GTA5, and I'm loving it. Got it new and cheap, for like 160€, and 1yr warranty. Its smaller than I imagined, fits my living room with its black and white patter perfectly. Halo MCC and Gears 2 should arrive tomorrow, can't wait for all those missed games over the years.

Thats why i insist that we should have hold to CRTs for a lot longer and just at this gen jump to HD (1280x720). Both PS3 and 360 suffered a lot from rendering at a lower resolutions than 720p, but on a CRTs those games look awesome except for the fonts that are stupidly small. Now the push is 4k, when we dont even have decent bandwith for OTA signals and internet streaming, which is heavely compressed, at FullHD (1920x1080p). On site we still struggle to move 4K, most solutions require some form of cheating, and we dont really have power for raw rendered 4k, and now the next big thing is 8k.

I got an Xbox One S about a year ago because it was €180, plays 4k blurays, Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games. That alone was worth it for me because I don't own an original Xbox or a 360. The funny thing is that I never use it to play regular Xbox One games because there aren't that many real exclusives and the multiplatform games perform better on a decent PC or launch PS4.
That's a good point. Developers are needing to put in increased amount of time and more resources in the older consoles just to make the run stably rather than making the upgraded version looks better.

Thinking about what John said at 14:30... Switch should get an update to add scaling functionality instead of full screen.. Imagine if you could play on dock mode, but scale the size of the screen so it wouldn't fill up your 65" and in that way make it look a little crisper.. That is what I do on pixel art PC indie games when playing on my 65" 4k.. I don't have a Switch yet but that would be very useful for me.

I think it was unrealistic expectations that led to some of the disappointment of the XBOne. People were expecting 1080p60 with high visual quality, and that just wasn't going to be the case given the design of the console. After some time and optimization 1080p30 was the realistic target for that console. Obviously there would be exceptions either way.
Problem is we are seeing now as mentioned in the video is the lack of development support for the older console.

I have an X and S at home, and the S still looks great, on a properly calibrated 1080p TV. Digital Foundry used to do meaningful comparisons, etc but this stuff verges on unnecessary snobbery. Yes, the X is beast but the S is more than good enough for people who want to just enjoy the games at reasonable performance. Yes, it’s a little blurrier, but are they unplayable? Not in my opinion, and certainly not at the price point. Less of the tech snobbery attitude please DF, cheers.
Key point: properly calibrated tv. Its a real shame how many people dont have enough knowledge about this. It really can make a night and day difference.
I was intrigued by the off hand comment about a new (probably the discless) base Xbox One S that uses ddr5 instead of ddr3 and would just map the ESRAM like the X. What if they release a scaled down discless X this year?

I agree with you on that, the Xbox One X at some point should be the "entry" level for the Xbox platform, and the older systems need to be relegated to the legacy side. You can't keep making cutting edge games moving forward if you are targeting old technology to receive a version of the game.
But until that time comes, Microsoft committed to not leaving behind the base Xbox customer base, when the X was released. Now if you are talking about just selling the X and discontinuing the S, interesting proposition. Unless there are serious retail price reductions, that is never going to happen.

Love my Xbox One S. Need to upgrade my TV for having Xbox X to make sense, but as a “multimedia box” it’s great. The only disappointment is that flash content doesn’t work. But I’ve seen that flash is getting shut down pretty soon, so that might not be a problem in a year or two. But yea otherwise a great 4K Blu-ray player. The Movie/Film video player App runs video files from a external hard-drive better than VLC player on my PC. There’s a ton of Apps for most of your favorite services that stream videos, film and tv series on a whim. From Netlix, UA-cam, Twitch, NBA or UFC. The only other thing I wish Microsoft would finally take care of is its Store. It’s availability is still very limited, so many smaller countries aren’t covered, so you end up still having to go to your local store to find games. And pile those boxes. Been wanting to transition to digital for a while.
I don’t know, I used to have PS2 back in the day, but since I’ve moved to Xbox with 360, I haven’t looked back. I love the interface, the console like you guys mentioned looks beautiful and it just has this warm feel to it. That’s I guess a matter of taste but I like the nature, green theme the whole brand has. Not agressive at all. Hope they can continue support for this console for a while, even if the games do end up looking pretty bad. Wonder if they will release “Y” and “Z” consoles after X. Possibly ones with Ray Tracing. Microsoft are probably hard pressed to have the feature in the next console. I’d imagine it’d be very hard to create one that was cost effective.

I'm reading the comments section and everybody is criticizing the Xbox One S version that is crappy and cheap, my first Xbox was the original Xbox One yes it was big but it was indeed quiet, I bought the Xbox One S in 2017 August for my birthday, and my god I was satisfied. Just staring at it made me satisfied it's beauty it's simpleness it's Square in pure white shape, it performs better than the original Xbox it downloads games faster it updates games faster in Wi-Fi of course, and since I have curved 50 inch 4k HDR Samsung TV, my TV says it's in native 4K when I play a game, I didn't really know this but I did see a huge difference when I played Far Cry 5. And by the way yes it is really cheap now . I also have a launch PS4 I'm perfectly fine with that too except it's EXTREMELY Loud Like a 747 taking off. And honestly no matter how hard a game pushes my Xbox One S I never really heard anything to be honest, so those who criticise Xbox One S I have no idea why but I'm absolutely loving it.

To the people thinking that Phil Spencer "salvaged" and saved the Xbox One and its fans, you've all been duped. The only reason the Xbox One does not have exclusives is because they believe in LIVE SERVICE games. The same ones as EA. Phil Spencer himself said so in 2016 when talking about games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda BOTW. He said Single Player games were a thing of the past. And then, they said they realized their mistakes and would "fix things" but then they announce a discless Xbox One for 2019. Don't you guys understand? Their E3 2013 plans ARE STILL ON THEIR TO DO LIST, they just realized that the market was not ready yet and they are preparing it for future profit.

Me: How about being as fast as EyeToy was!? Kinect sacrificed speed for working in the dark and being so overly complicated that it housed its own dedicated co-processors! EyeToy on the other hand was literally just a webcam and guess what it did the job on hardware 10 years older than Xbox 360. In 2013 Xbox One couldn't improve Kinetic's performance or features but slapped on that "2" so people know it's improved... Unfortunately it wasn't really. It took Phil more than a year to kill Kinetic. Meanwhile the PS4 camera is actually useful for playing AR/VR games as well as automatically culling out the background so people don't see your room during live streams.
This is so true, Microsoft toned down a bit because they got slapped in the face but they will definitely continue to push the LIVE SERVICE games agenda. I hope Sony (& Nintendo) will continue to push great single player titles as they have been doing. Since I love to play high quality, story driven, microtransactions free, single player games, I just can't cheer for the Xbox next gen...

@@joaocarlospaesjr2324 While faster in clock rate it only has 768 cores when compared to 1152 on the PS4. The more cores the more operations per second the GPU can handle. In order for the XB1S GPU to match the PS4 GPU's performance it needs to run at 1200 MHZ instead of 914 MHZ.

I love xbox one s but can't deny this point.
I imagine that MS thought that they'd be more competitive at this point back in 2013 as Sony pulled the rug from under them with the PS4's announcement. Going into it the dev kits all had only 4gb of the faster gddr5 memory and MS had 8gb of slower ddr3 with the esram lined up. But then Sony dropped the announcement that they'd double the PS4's memory to 8gb and that was that.

I suppose the question is: If you already have a PS4 Pro, is it worth purchasing an Xbox One X at this late stage in the generation? Does it offer enough of a visual improvement over the Pro in multiplatform titles? Because we all know Playstation has the best exclusives.
A £500 investment for a console that will only be relevant for 2 years is difficult to justify. Yet I'm still tempted to purchase one, just because I want the absolute best console experience possible and the X1X is the clear choice if this is important. For example, I could never go back to playing games on the base PS4 or Xbox one after experiencing the fantastic improvement in resolution (and depending on the title: draw distance, FPS, particles etc) that the Pro offers. The X1X is 50% more powerful than the Pro, is all that power utilised? Imagine if they made some exclusive X1X titles, I can only imagine the worlds developers could create with a guaranteed 6Tflops of power to play with.

I think Xbox One has its merits and it does a great job. But overall I think PS4 does a little better overall in terms of amount of games, amount of exclusive games, and performance.
Yes the PS4 Pro doesn’t have hardware specs like Xbox One X, but even then I still prefer PS4 simply die to the games.
I think the Xbox One X is a good introduction to what I presume the Xbox 2 will be like and hopefully they’ll focus on getting more games on it in the coming game gen.
