Fun fact: IIRC, Jay giving items to Kael is a waste both in this mission and the previous, as Kael does not actually carry his inventory forward in *either* mission. Illidan carries his inventory forward, because *you are controlling him* in the next mission. Kael however, is AI-controlled, and I don't think any AI controlled heroes carry their inventories forward. I could be wrong about that, but I'm 90% sure Kael does not.
@ We never actually control Kael'thas during the Night Elf campaign. He's only ever an AI ally; moving with the Caravan like Cairne in his first mission, and manning an AI base repelling Scourge attacks in the next; after that come the mission where you control Malfurion's and Illidan's bases simultaneously.

IIRC this mission still was a necessity as Illidan would've taken out the Lich King and the rest of the world in one swoop, had the spell been completed. And naturally, he wasn't thinking too much about the collateral damage he would've caused. Anyhow, a message to the tune of "Hey bro BRB gonna kill bitch ass Lich King, with the Skull, kthxbai" would've prevented many deaths, as the ones that happened during this mission. Keep it up Jay, as always, nice walkthrough!
would the eye of sargeras destroy the entire world or like, destroy northrend continent causing a sort of polar cap melting effect flooding the world or something? also, Illidas was doing that for kiljaedan, but wasnt Illidans thing that he also hates the demons and the burning legion regardless? did he had a plan to backstab the demon lord or had any confidence to be able to use the eye of sargeras to beat him too?
I wanted to destroy every base like Aesis so I went Chimaeras as quickly as possible, then realized I didn't have enough lumber for upgrades and thought it would be pointless and I wouldn't have enough time. Then I rewatched this video and I gotta say Jay, it really helped me. I realized I could in fact get 3/3 around the 20 minute mark (provided I stayed in No Upkeep) and could then get to 100 and start moving. You prolly could've destroyed everything if you'd wanted to, that's how well you did. The big undead base is actually pretty hard so I'd advise to leave it for last. You should also prolly attack from the left (where the Trolls were) to not get into a chokehold. Illidan's base is annoying mostly because it's spread out so your units can get separated and picked off more easily. What I found fun is that while I was destroying it he'd keep attacking me my base--which was fine on one side because it meant less stuff to deal with and Kael could buy me time but then I'd have to rebuild. Once I lost the Tree of Eternity so I wasted quite some time and just barely beat the Undead before the time ran out (I couldn't creep the whole map). My team comp was basically the same as in Balancing the Scales: 5 Chimaeras, 4 Hippogryph Riders and 4 Crows for anti-air, 3 MGs, 2 Bears and 2 Dryads (ymmv). Maiev generally does fine against Couatl but you need the extra protection for your Chimaeras and also against Frost Wyrms. The DotT can help Cycloning Royal Guards but I gotta say I didn't even use it here, I just kept them as crows to protect the Chimaeras. Oh also, you reminded me of the Helm of Valor which I always forget exists. It's one of the best items to pass to Illidan along with Gul'dan's orb.
i love it when jay loses his temper every time his units block him . i believe that you missed some tomes ( or just one ) at the upper right area . i think that it was either with the other group of kobolgs or inside a crate ( i dont refer to the tome of stregth you found ).
In theory, the night elf counter to the couatl should just be archers. Their medium armor takes reduced damage from piercing attacks, and their Elune's Grace passive reduces it even further. While both units cost 2 food, and couatls do about twice the base damage and have about twice the health, the various damage modifiers have such an extreme effect that they end up about evenly matched. And archers just cost a lot less gold and wood, so they win out in the end.
the fact nagas never got to be their own race with proper and unique tech trees, not just same skills used at other units + balancing some of them out since coatls are overpowered for their cost, even if only taking away their abolish magic and giving them something else minor would be better.
Naga as your opponents are like goddamn Primaris Space Marines from Warhammer 40k. But as soon as you get them as your own units, they just get insanely and instantly nerfed. Playable Couatl are like Gargoyles when attacking ground units, while here, they are just plowing trough your +3 upgraded army. Because of this, I literally had to ''whosyourdaddy'' both them here and undead in next mission.
do the playable naga actually have reduced stats compared to enemy AI? you sure? because the way people talk, coatls are strong AF once you get to use them.
Hey Jay! First, i gotta say i am a big fan of your channel and your commitment to your playthroughs. But lately I suddenly realized why I generally enjoy the custom campaign. I think you're having your first experience in them with us, which makes it more human and light hearted, even if it's filled with salt ☺ (some arkain maps). While this series and the SC2 brutal one was more of a guide. Which i know that's kinda the point, but I just wanted you to know that its fine if you don't win or get all the secrets in the first try,and that i enjoy your lighthearted amd easygoing personality more than the guide oriented style. Above all. Do what makes you happy and the people that care will also be happy.
I remember cheesing this mission by assembling a force of flyers and just sneaking along the left corridor and going straight for the naga. Youre method is much more wholesome and got treasures though!
Another hard mission due to being timed. List of things to hurt the naga summoners; druids of the talon, mana flare, chimera, and preferably using entangle roots & shadow strike to snipe summoners. After a frustrating number of attempts, I don't think Kael keeps any items to start the Blood elf campaign despite the fact Illidan carries his items all the way to mission 5.
Ah yes, this was the ONLY MISSION I finally got to use Chimeras where the Naga died like flies and the buildings got smoked in seconds by their corrosive bile attacks while I use my heroes (and the Paladin) to keep the fliers off them.
I had used Chimaeras in Balancing the Scales and I'd loved it but on this mission I couldn't destroy the Undead because Illidan kept making me push back and at the end they destroyed poor Kael :'( Both Coatl and Gargoyles absolutely devour Chimaeras tho so you want to keep them safe until your heroes kill them.
In a way it would remove a problem, but in Northrend, there is the Nexus, the biggest magic concentration in Azeroth and home of the Blue Dragons, i can't imagine the shit that would happen if it were destroyed. Plus, there's Yogg-Saron prison that would've probably been shatered much earlier than it was supposed to

Maiev is such a jerk, she lied to Malfurion that Tyrande is dead, and she wanted to stop Illidan from using the Eye of Sargeras to defeat the Lich King. Maiev is no protagonist.
Her storyline actually follow the same beat with how Arthas fall. She along with Arthas are blinded with their need to dispense justice, not realizing that their need for justice leads to their fall.
I'm curious if there is enough time in this mission to wipe the map clean? As in destroy the green undead base first, then turning to purple naga base. Probably not possible without cheat.
I tried to do that but I couldn't get enough progress before I had to go back to defend my base, I think it might be better to actually destroy Illidan first (leaving the Summoners alive of course). There's also a Fountain of Restoration next to purple where you can go back to heal and recover mana. What really killed me tho was lumber, it's ridiculous how everything costs over 200 (Chimaera Roosts, the upgrade, Resistant Skin for the Giants, the normal upgrades).
The end cutscene is not within the playable map's bounds. If you want to know where that end cutscene is at, it's on the very right part of the map (can only be seen in the Editor).
I can say what they just did was entire foolish, I mean if illidan destroyed Northerend the litch king will be destroyed Arthas and scourge will vanish and won't get the expansion Wrath of litch king so apparently mal'furion and Maiev were fighting illidan for the sake of Blizzard 🤦🏻♂️

Kael keeps nothing you give him. The items that Maiev has will be with Malfurion in the next mission.
We can control both Kael and Illidan the blood elves campaign. Illidan keeps all the items from the night elves campaign but Kael doesn't.

This mission filtered me so hard as kid because i thought Hero Spells were only Spell damage.
I like how heroes spin all over the different sides and battles in these games.

Items carry over only if we use the hero.. Here Kael is just an allie while we use Illadin next mission..

You should have flushed out the enemies, then bring out a fleet of Hippos to slay those Coautl. A few Chims would have also turned the Heavies to ash.
Naga guarding the Paladin are set to Neutral Hostile so Illidan forces may have higher food limit.
Hippogryphs are great anti air units
Man the old times where i just rush my heroes and magic attackers to the summoners over and over again just to complete the mission.

This took me a few tries. But found out the key is to rush with Chimaeras and some Huntress and Archers for support.
stormcrows have Heavy armor, which is funny since they do Magic Damage.
Interesting plot twist how Maiev is now the antagonist...

You could have used mountain giants as siege if they have tree, it's really effective cause they cant be focused down
Yeah. Hardened Skin is gud ability. Medium Armor makes them resistant to many ranged enemies.
I love Quatl and there counter are hippos with no archers GG m8 GN

For some odd reason, the Naga guarding the Paladin are all just set to Neutral Hostile.
I guess that might be to prevent the naga protecting the summoners from running over there when you try to free the paladin.
