I’m 33 and skincare is a big deal to me, I def tossed my powder when I realized that it basically just highlighted my wrinkles and settled there. I think also the “dewy skin” looks healthier than the matte skin now anyway!!
I only ditch powder products if they change (smell, color or texture). Also, if an item is getting older and breaks, I usually just throw it out instead of repressing.
I still have powder dating back to the 1950s that's perfectly fine. Also lipsticks that are 30 years old and a little dry but still perfectly good. If you keep hygiene rules - don't share, don't dip your fingers in - then most products last for ages. The exception is mascara, which can start to smell and clump just six months in. Smell mascara to test it.
My makeup goals aren't exactly minimalism or only owning necessities, but to not have items I don't use and love. I've been going through my collection and trying things I used to love to see if I want to start using them again or not. I don't personally like getting rid of things just because I haven't reached for them in a while because I often enjoy a good re-discovery. Finding forgotten loves while shopping my stash. I do like to try things again before decluttering to see if I will really use it again or not. I've also been trying to pan products at a faster rate than I purchase new ones so that I'm not being wasteful and using products before they expire.
Have decluttered makeup very gradually over the last 5 years - now only have mascara, eyebrow wax/powder that I can also use as an eyeliner and lipstick - just those 3 items
Decluttering makeup over time has helped me realize that I just need to stick to my favorites. I always get excited when something new launches from a brand I love, and will sometimes buy it, but then I end up going back to my old favorites!
I find that makeup lasts much longer than manufacturers might lead you to believe, especially powders and pencils. If the packaging limits how much air gets to wet products, is pumps, it often lasts longer. Unless it smells or has changed texture I normally keep it. If it's the wrong colour I will often mix it with other products. My best foundation is a mixture of a darker warmer and a cooler lighter foundations and my best lipstick was created from a variety of ends and mistakes.
Very true, expiry dates and chances of contamination due to packaging is making me rethink how I buy makeup. For example before I started on an expiry date obsession, I really was about to go crazy (price wise) on eyeliner when that's one of the things I really should be tossing frequently so I shouldn't go for a price that I can't maintain. I noticed people don't want to get rid of dangerous stuff (Dip products like mascara... Which goes near your eyes) because of price. 😢 With lipsticks, I'm focusing on bullets in the future but those liquid ones you dip into.
I've managed to declutter my makeup so everything fits into one make up bag. Whenever I go away I can literally throw the bag into my suitcase. It's so satisfying and freeing.
So satisfying to watch this. I just decluttered some makeup yesterday and I make a habit of doing it every couple of months. It helps me see what I have, what’s expired, what not to buy (since I never reach for it) etc. I currently have 3 small drawers full and want to get it paired down to a basket. I still want a variety but I don’t necessarily need Sephora camping in my house. 🤣
Especially with Makeup, but also clothes, I‘ve really found that I „needed“ to own more in my 20s to really hone in on what I like, was is the most practical for my lifestyle and what suits me best. Now I basically only do replacements (and mixing up things in that process - the Luminous Silk will be the next replacement!). I think I get a lot of satisfaction out of the realization that I really know myself now.
I really enjoyed watching a declutter of a normal makeup collection! I’m in an ongoing process of using up what I have but sometimes I can’t help but to get something new and I don’t feel bad about it at all. I love makeup!
Decluttered back in 2016. With the pandemic I don't use much. It's a pretty reasonable makeup collection of yours! Kind of nice to see someone start with a moderate instead of extreme amount of makeup. More relaxing haha
You can also buy Inglot’s duraline, which is a re-hydrator for cream products that have died up or to mix with powder products so you turn shadows into liners. That way you can extend the use of cream shadows
@@Christinamychas duraline is basically just plant glycerine so you could find a cheaper alternative in the baking isle! (It’s also used to rehydrate cake frosting) I just add some rubbing alcohol in it to disinfect)
I have decluttered my collection recently. I got rid of about 20 lipsticks that had expired, gave away some highlighters, single shadows and extra tools. My declutter from last year was a bit more brutal. I'm much happier with my collection now - it's not small but it's a wide variety of the fun stuff and only like the bare necessities for my everyday stuff.. I'll never understand the people who have more than 10 foundations/concealers
You did a fantastic job with the production and editing of this one. Yes, Smashbox is under the same parent company as Becca and carries the corrector now. Recently decluttered some eyeshadows and a cream blush. I have a pinterest board with pictures of the makeup items I have so I can check that first when I'm inspired or tempted by something new.
I just found your channel as I have been trying to catch up with all the makeup items and brand changes since Covid. I didn't wear much makeup at all and now curating a minimalistic luxury collection. I am in the process of going through my last toss out today. So many brands went under or disappeared, which saddens me as I cannot replace favourite Bite Beauty lipsticks or any Marc Jacobs products. I appreciate your video of decluttering and just mentioning what you do like and use. New brands have emerged and I need to find some new items so I have all fresh makeup!

Just thought I would share with you and whoever else reads this.

Oof. I’ve been slowly decluttering my eyeshadow palettes. I was obsessed in college (still am but less impulsive) and now my needs are totally different. I can’t wear my fun bright colors to work like I could to class, so anything that isn’t remotely neutral mostly needs to go. I’ve done a fairly good job, but I could do more. That’s really the only issue I have in terms of excess. I only have enough for basic use for brows, liner, mascara, concealer, foundation, bronzer, and powder. I probably have more blushes than I need but I cycle through them all, and same with my lippies.
Hi, I only own one of each as far as makeup… it has in cons and pros.. sometimes I forget that I’m running low on a product with is frustrating when I want to use it and there is non left. But on the other hand it’s easy in mornings or travel

I love this so much - the editing and production of the video is amazing! Also love your minimal collection. Deffo my goal to minimise as much as possible this year 🤍
I really enjoyed watching this. This is kinda inspiring me to declutter again. I’m on a no-buy for 2022 and didn’t want to declutter and feel like I need to replace items. But someone should get use out of them! Looks like my sisters will be getting my hand-me-downs too lol 😂
Same with the eyebrows!! I had it done 3 times and it never stuck, for the same reason! (She didn't charge for the 2nd two, phew!) I decided to just keep rocking the pencil.
Great video - love the camera angle looking at products 👍 BTW Becca was bought by Smashbox so still available. I personally love it and use it instead of concealer for just some brightness...
I have so many eyeshadow palettes. I'm almost ashamed at how many I have. I finally threw out one that I've had since college (I'm 32 now...) so that felt like a win. What's crazy is that I don't even wear makeup anymore except for some quick mascara. I've spent so much time and money at the dermatologist getting my skin nice that the last thing I want to do is put on makeup and risk a breakout.
I don’t currently need to declutter any like physical makeup but I did take this as a chance to declutter my makeup wishlist because it’s like stressing me out to be aware of wanting so many things? Idk if that make sense
My make up contains one mascara and pink lipbalm which I never put..🙈I dont even know how to use all that stuff but because its Christina I will watch🥰
I used to super be into makeup and I co nauseated going to school for makeup! Now, not so much. I think I got overwhelmed and burned out on makeup and have decluttered aaaaa LOT. I’ve donated to project beauty share and to local sober living homes. I’ve only repurchased eyeliner, mascara and a cream eyeshadow. Almost all of my makeup fits into one caboodle. Eventually I’ll get to the one caboodle. 🤷🏻♀️
I have super “bushy” brows and I still can’t get into ilia’s brow makeup. I love their mascara but I really love the Beauty counter brilliant brow gel. It works just as well as glossier but is a cleaner product. (I switched during my first pregnancy and never went back!)
I love videos that show a normal sized makeup collection. Christina, I noticed that you own one of the Hourglass double ended brush, do you like it? What do you use it for? I've been thinking of buying it for setting powder but I wonder if the smaller side will be too big for the eye area.
My makeup consists of my eyeliner and that's it lol and yet I can't even keep track of it 😂 but I love watching declutter videos 😊 I do have a lot of skincare products, but I've been decluttering that for the last couple weeks and only keeping what I use
Please try the elf micro eyebrow pencil in neutral brown. There is no warmth to it whatsoever. I mean this with love, but it has always stood out to me that the tone of your brows is much too warm for your complexion. And mismatched from the undertone of your hair. The elf pencil is neutral to ash and would be a better complement. And it's like 5 bucks.
ive been watching you for so long but i love the lighting in this video... do you have any behind the scenes video? how do you anchor your camera above the makeup? where are you lighting from for the side shots of yourself? would be so nice if you had any info on this, i can't get over how amazing it looks!
I declutter regularly. I toss mascara at the 2 month mark, cream eyeshadow at 1 year, eyeshadow powder at 2 years. I’m antsy about eye infections- having known a young woman who lost her sight permanently due to an eye infection that resisted all antibiotics they tried. The cause was mascara. Her case was rare but eyesight is so precious I don’t take chances.
I noticed you got rid of your tom ford eyeshadows. Are you planning to repurchase them? I might be incorrect but it looks like your current makeup collection has no eyeshadows left (if you give away your ILIA palette too) so I was curious if you're just going to use blush and bronzer and not really much else (I lean to that style sometimes myself!).
Hi, I have just discovered your channel and am loving it! Just a quick question about brows, have you tried putting castor oil on them to help with growth? I lost half of one of my eyebrows after having my second child and applying castor oil every night before bed helped them regrow and they look more full than they did before. It does take a few weeks to see a difference but might be worth a shot x
Becca was taken over by Smashbox and they still sell the Becca under eye corrector! It's now called the "Smashbox X Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector."
That Ilia unitasker might work for those of us with oily skin. Thanks for the recommendations! I have been wanting to try Ilia but I’m not doing it til we’re out of masks 😷
Love it, thanks. Would love to try the sunscreen you mentioned here... do you have any tips to avoid the $25 shipping charge (apart from spending $85 to get free shipping) in the link you provided? Thanks :)
Hi i bought charlotte Tilbury colour corrector instead of my becca , and i must say its a lot better , i also use her concealer too ,and no creasing , i also use charlotte Tilbury feline flick eyeliner ,
I never purchased because I knew it wouldn’t flatter me. Pinks, unless they’re a magenta/bright berry shade don’t suit me. Lolol. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
@@Christinamychas lol yeah probably. Most people don't strictly follow expiration dates even if they are more aware of them, but those signs are a good indication the lipstick needs to go.
@@Christinamychas lipsticks can be so easy to collect a bunch of but I'm trying to be mindful that they do expire pretty quickly and I really don't wear it often. It would make more sense for me to only have a few but I have much more than that. I was experimenting with it for a while though so... lessons have been learned.
I got inspired to declutter my own makeup but then I remembered I literally have only 1 product of each, foundation, eyeliner, brown eye pencil, mascara, highlighter and eyeshadow palette.😅 I do have 2 lipsticks and 1 lipgloss tho.
eyebrow tinting costs about 20$ and lasts about 2-4 weeks, so I'd say there's a very low risk with trying it out! i now do my own at home using the same products the salon used (purchased off amazon). also, if it means anything, according to beauty youtubers, the thinner, more subtle brow is back in for 2022! brows are taking a back seat to emphasize other features :)
if you don't wear it, what is the purpose? makeup is a tool, not a collectible like... (what do people collect)? an extreme example i use; if my home caught on fire what would i try to save, or replace ASAP? everything else needs to go, that's the fantasy self. (hope i helped!)
@@lizasoliman723 great tip! I would start with what's for sure expired. Looks off, smells off, texture's off - that's prob one of the easiest places to start. And no pressure! I've been decluttering my makeup for 3 years!
I don't wear makeup. I never feel satisfied with how it looks on me. It feels like a waste of time and money. I used to have quite bad acne and I worried that makeup would make it worse so I never really developed the skills of wearing makeup. For most of my life I couldn't afford to experiment with different products that might not work out. However, as I get older I am tempted to try it again. I still have some products I aquired here and there but they are very old and I should probably throw them all out.

Make sure you back to mac your empty/decluttered mac items
ohhhh good tip!!
Omggg ok decluttering mine RIGHT now lol
I noticed you got rid of your tom ford eyeshadows. Are you planning to repurchase them? I might be incorrect but it looks like your current makeup collection has no eyeshadows left (if you give away your ILIA palette too) so I was curious if you're just going to use blush and bronzer and not really much else (I lean to that style sometimes myself!).
That’s right! No eyeshadows right now! 🤯 but I’d definitely repurchase the Tom ford - they’re a gorgeous one-and-done formula!
RIP Tom Ford duos! They have been there since the start of these declutters, if I am remembering correctly! 😊
Haven’t tried! I may try rosemary oil/water as well!! Thank you! 😍
this was so relaxing
Becca was taken over by Smashbox and they still sell the Becca under eye corrector! It's now called the "Smashbox X Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector."
That Ilia unitasker might work for those of us with oily skin. Thanks for the recommendations! I have been wanting to try Ilia but I’m not doing it til we’re out of masks 😷
Yes! It’s def a drier yet still creamy formula - a very unique texture! And I feel you 😷
Love it, thanks. Would love to try the sunscreen you mentioned here... do you have any tips to avoid the $25 shipping charge (apart from spending $85 to get free shipping) in the link you provided? Thanks :)
Sometimes I just load up on my SPF 😂 or I ask colleagues at work if they want to go in on an order with me as many of us are Kbeauty fans!
Hi i bought charlotte Tilbury colour corrector instead of my becca , and i must say its a lot better , i also use her concealer too ,and no creasing , i also use charlotte Tilbury feline flick eyeliner ,
We have similar colouring and I agree about the brown
I just decluttered my makeup too, I was suckered into the pillow talk trend but it doesn’t flatter me either 🙄
okay so im not alone with the pillow talk!
I never purchased because I knew it wouldn’t flatter me. Pinks, unless they’re a magenta/bright berry shade don’t suit me. Lolol. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Lipsticks typically expire in 6 months to a year. If you see a formula change, see bumps or discoloration or it stinks you should toss it.
Omg my ruby woo needs to go then lolllllll
@@Christinamychas lol yeah probably. Most people don't strictly follow expiration dates even if they are more aware of them, but those signs are a good indication the lipstick needs to go.
@@Christinamychas lipsticks can be so easy to collect a bunch of but I'm trying to be mindful that they do expire pretty quickly and I really don't wear it often. It would make more sense for me to only have a few but I have much more than that. I was experimenting with it for a while though so... lessons have been learned.
Have you tried the jones road yet? Im very tempted
I saw some Becca makeup at Winners/Marshall's!
You can still get Becca corrector they collabed with smashbox so they can keep it and champagne pop aswell bc they r peoples holy grails
Omg I’ve been looking for that Becca concealer for months!!!!! Can I please buy it from you?!?
I did while I was watching your video 😊 and it feels amazing! Thanks 💛
Hi Christina, I'm sure you've mentioned them before but I was wondering about the jeans you had on, they are exactly what I've been searching for!
Vintage Levi 501s! I always get them from All vintage denim!
Thank you!
What nail polish are you wearing 👀? Loooks so nice!
It’s Essie “fairy Tailor” ❤️
OMG YESSSSS - My soul needed this. Thank You, Christina! xxx
Yessssss enjoy! 🥰
Omg finally! Me and my barely there brows are stoked haha. I think I’ll try tinting soon!
Enjoyed your declutter!
Great declutter of your makeup
Great taste, Christina!
Loved this so much thanks ♥️❤️🥰
I need to declutter my collection, I have a whole 16 drawer cart full of makeup. But I have a problem letting go of the product itself. Any tips?
if you don't wear it, what is the purpose? makeup is a tool, not a collectible like...
Video suggestion: sisters do make up on each other 😬 would love to meet your Sister Christina! Cheers!
Where do you donate makeup?
Usually to friends and family and often organizations for women in need will take them if theyre unopened!
Where is your office chair from??
Herman miller! The sayl chair. My back thanks me for this purchase daily 😂
If you would like to donate the Ilia serum to me, I'll happy accept! :D
Becca was bought out by Smash box so the corrector is still available
I don't wear makeup. I never feel satisfied with how it looks on me. It feels like a waste of time and money. I used to have quite bad acne and I worried that makeup would make it worse so I never really developed the skills of wearing makeup. For most of my life I couldn't afford to experiment with different products that might not work out. However, as I get older I am tempted to try it again. I still have some products I aquired here and there but they are very old and I should probably throw them all out.
