No, she lied about having panic attacks. She said that if you answer the questions in a certain way, you'll get a diagnosis. The interviewer said that she didn't look like someone who had panic attacks, and the woman said verbatim, "yeah, I lied."

Kas Qat don't they ask for medical records showing they have some kind of disability.
Then again, those claiming to have a disability who really don't can. They can always forge a letter claiming they have a disability etc just to take a dog on board.

Who cares? Do you want to fly in a plane cargo hold? How about paying extra for your dog to get thrown around and lost by baggage handlers? Shocking how many people here defending airlines treating pets like checked baggage getting ripped off with bogus fees.

Kevin Clark Look At the bigger picture she essentially lied about being disabled. Being an animal lover myself I get wanting to protect your fur babies. However I’m not going to lie about being disabled. It’s that simple, do not take them if you are concerned about their well being. When traveling there are other options if you choose to leave them behind even if it’s just for a short vacation. I don’t want my dog or cat to get lost or stuck in luggage or even worse die from a heat stroke. Buddy I’ve seen it happen! So do not assume, because I won’t lie means I don’t care.

Kevin Clark Also, you stated you were shocked “how many people are defending airlines” 🤦🏾‍♀️ Who tf in this comment section said anything about supporting ill treatment of any animal. Just because we are honest and decided to use better judgement, does not mean we support animal abuse.

@WeeStrom CO Guy I'm not saying all pets should fly for free. If your dog weighs 100lbs and you want to fly across the country with it, that's on you. But if your dog/pet is around the size of a reasonable carry-on, yes. We both know airlines have been squeezing customers for decades, imo I shouldn't have to pay for a carry on unless it makes a mess, if you know what I mean.

"You seem like a calm level headed person"....people with anxiety and panic disorder often can be calm and level headed. They're not flailing, fainting, jittery, and freaking out all the time. You'd be surprised by how intelligent, kind, and "level headed" many people with anxiety and panic disorder are. It's disheartening to hear a reported say that.

WeeStrom CO Guy I have generalized anxiety disorder. It’s so bad it’s disabling so I’m getting my service dog trained for it currently. Mainly it causes pretty constant anxiety attacks which are hell to live through. Most people can’t tell when I’m having one though. A lot of us with metal problems have been told our entire lives that we need to suck it up and nothing is wrong with us. We learn to hide it outwardly. Also don’t call people with mental disorders “unhinged” it’s extremely rude.

This is fucking insane......... and although it lets everyone abuse the system this is also the reason why doctors deny service dogs for the blind or for people who have autism or down syndrome.
      😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
By now airlines should realize these are people who are fucking abusing the system........... so this is why people with autism are denied service animals and people who are blind are denied this as well.............service animals are special and they're not meant to be treated like a toy car a little boy found on the street and cannot live without.
      😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
There are specific tasks a service dog may need to help someone with.
      For example
      1) Deep pressure therapy for someone with autism or who has severe anxiety attacks. Like to assist someone with ADHD bipolar or ADD.
      2) A big dog might need to help someone with physical disabilities get up off the floor.
      3) A service dog might need to guide the blind or help deaf or hearing impaired people find sounds.
      😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
It cost over three thousand dollars to train those animals and all you can say is good job for abusing the system.............. you are a disgusting piece of trash.

The owner would have had to pay for the injury or death of your dog. That would mean paying for a temporary replacement animal. I have been suffering from depression, phobia of flying, and anxiety for two years and recently got a doctor's note for my ESA. Unfortunately, we fell for one of these scams, thinking they were legit. There has to be a way to tell the difference between a fake and a genuine Emotional Support Animal. I have a doctor's note of course, but ESA's might not be trained to do specific tasks, but they are needed just the same. They should be trained in the CGC program so they are well mannered in public and don't cause problems. My puppy is being trained to earn a CGC certificate. That way no one has to worry about him hurting anyone, especially a Service animal. I made a suggestion to the Justice Department. Instead of an individual registering their ESA with these fake sites. A legitimate doctor would enter the information with the ADA, it would clear up any confusion. Doctors would be allowed to put in the information, and businesses would be allowed to access the information. It would eliminate the fakers, and reinstate those people who really need the comfort of an ESA for trips, and stays.

Your anxiety goes up and then peaks and when your brain realizes you're safe the anxiety will lessen. If he is distracted and misses an alert, then that is dangerous for me. Anyone who thinks lying about a disability so fluffy can fly for free is selfish. Certificates, IDs, and vests are worthless. And then I have to prove usually with papers. I feel like people like this make it even harder for people with disabilities to just have a normal time in public. I feel bad for her and she must be lonely. But I wish there wouldn’t be a whole “real or fake” service dog debate going on. If your dog is not certified and trained to help you with a medical condition that warrants a service animal, then it’s not a service dog, I am sorry. Take your dog to the park, they like it and you can breathe the fresh air and be less anxious if that is what you are worried about. But it is already hard enough for me to simply leave my apartment and I would like to be able to not be questioned by strangers.

That would cut down on the liars who have no certification for their animals abusing the system.

I'm hoping to get a service dog soon- I use crutches to walk and a wheelchair for any sort of distance. Untrained ESAs are a huge risk as they could not only attack a fellow passenger, but they also after service animals.
There have been service animals that have been wounded, possibly severely, by these untrained and often unnecessary ESAs. That kind of interaction could leave a disabled person with huge vet bills and the difficulty of no longer having the support of their service animal. It can cause anxiety in the service animal and require them to be prematurely retired. And it reflects poorly on ESAs and drives up the chances of them being banned from things like airlines and housing.

At least have the decency to train your animal not to urinate and defecate in inappropriate places, not to disrupt your neighbor's flight experience by barking nonstop, and not to act aggressively towards REAL ESA's and service animals. Real service and assistance animals have been attacked by these fakes from lack of socialization and obedience training on the owner's part. Just train your stupid dog.

      Abigail Johnstone
As a someone with a degree in animal behavior and am also able blind person with a guide dog, I would not think that miniature horses are the best choice fir this work. A horse is a herd animal with an instinctive flight response. Putting them in stressful situations is not a kind thing to do. Very very few horses (or goat’s etc.) would enjoy this work. A dog is more genetically conditioned for this. A dog’s desire to be with his handler/ owner has a protective effect, allowing him/her to withstand the stress of being in an unfamiliar place. The horse is much more attached to their home and stable. Unless the miniature horse has been trained and socialized over many years by an expert , it is unlikely that they enjoyi the activity. Most are stoic and will endure but it’s not fair to them. We have evidence through MRI studies, and through heart and respiration monitors etc. that dog’s do enjoy their guiding work IF properly trained. Untrained animals should not be used in this way. If you need an ESA animal, please put their needs first! Learn how to help them. Take your public access tests and be responsible! And if the animal is not relaxed, LEAVe them at home where they feel safe!
The people I usually see with ESA animals are e completely oblivious to the needs of the animal and the other people around them! And yet are indignant when other people ask them not to let their dog (or horse etc) pee beside the food counter or craps all the way down the terminal!
How friendly do you think the staff are to me when I come in after these people? Your ESA animal can be trained to eliminate on command. This is not difficult . But many ESA owners haven’t bothered to teach this behavior. There are designated areas for service animals to use and we appreciate the airlines etc for creating those spots for us. But irresponsible owners ruin it for everyone and all of us will pay for it.

I and my fiance both had our therapists and psychiatrists write ours. And it helps if your dog has basic training and can be calm around other animals and people. Our dog is a year and a half border collie cross and I trained her the day she was given to us by our friends when she was 8 weeks old. Our dog right now (I still work with her) knows how to sit, sit pretty, lay down, speak on command, fetch just about anything, you can tell her to back up and she backs up and you can tell her to stay and she will stay. border collie crosses and border collies are extremely high energetic and very intelligent and they love to work no matter what you train them to do. 1. I agree that people who fake it make those of us who have an ESA for real a bad reputation, and that irritates me.
    2. Cargo is NOT safe for animals, and lots of "mistakes" and casualties happen. My dog is a legit ESA, but I can understand why people would "fake" it for the safety of their pet. Airlines should treat animals with the same safety as humans, make their "area" as safe as ours is. Yes, that won't get rid of all the fakers, as some do to avoid the "fee" and some do it just for their own convenience, but it's a start.
    3. It's ridiculous that people are charged a fee in the first place to have an animal under their seat, occupying the same space a person's handbag would otherwise occupy. Animals are not "extra accessories" they are living beings deserving of respect.

It doesn't matter if someone really has anxiety or is just faking it, an ESA is not trained and is therefore a pet, and pets are not allowed on planes.

ESAs are not pets.they serve a very important roll which is to help the person with a disability by being there for them which relieves some of the stress and symptoms.
they are counted as medical equipment not pets and just like any medical equipment they stay with their owner on a plane.

    • @lonewolf4429

Sorry the truth hurts, but pets by their very nature are indeed "emotional support animals", which is why humans have had pets for thousands of years. Every pet provides emotional support otherwise animals would not be kept as pets in the first place. Soon half of all passengers will be bringing their PETS on board. Service animals are for blind, deaf or physically disabled people only. If one has anxiety that severe, they shouldn't fly at all.

    • @MissNayNay
      @MissNayNay 7 років тому +3

Thank you. Finally, someone with a reasonable answer. People want their pets with them at the expense of public safety. Not only is that people may be allergic, but no one knows if their pets are well-behaved enough to not only get along with strange people, but with other pets. One woman let her toy dog into an elevator with a woman in a wheel chair who had a service dog. Well, that toy dog completely attacked that service dog and bit the dog so hard to the point where the service dog's snout was had a deep gash and was bleeding heavily. While it was attacked, that poor service dog didn't even bark because it was TRAINED NOT TO.
And I'm sorry. Well, trained or not, you don't need an emotional support animal with you unless you have a REAL mental illness THAT CAN CAUSE YOU PHYSICAL illness, too, like seizures, panic attacks. And even then, if it's that bad, then one shouldn't even be flying. Don't care if your dog is well behaved. Everyone is biased towards their own pets because they love them. But having everyone bringing their pets on transportation will compromise public safety.

This shitty person. I have depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, mild insomnia. I need my dog as an ESA, but if I didn't, I wouldn't lie what so ever. My dog is my ESA, but she isn't registered with the NHS (national health service) of Englamd, not making it valid for her to fly with me, a thirteen year old girl. I need her for protection. For mental stability. She calms me down if I have panic attacks (non triggered attacks, for me consisting of wheezing, blurry ness in vision, bad balance and sometimes blackouts. It varies from person to person with the condition.) and I'm waiting till she's completely trained to get her registered to the point where if I go to Iceland by plane with my school, I can take her. But how dare people give us people a bad rep because they got their panties in a twist cuz their dogs weren't right there. I need my dog with me almost every day to feel stable and keep my mind of negativity, so if you do this, please don't. You might be causing me to have to give up my ESA in the future. Thanks.

I understand people needing service animals and emotional support animals but what happens to people who have anxiety to animals or who suffer from allergies? I totally support people having their service/support animals but only if they absolutely need them! And if other people don't have to suffer form having that animal on board.
I would not be happy if I was seated next to a pet who was not a real service animal. I love animals but there's a place and time to have them around. If they are needed then yes, by all means have your well trained, well documented animal on board. It's not a pet, it's a working animal. People taking their regular peta though ticks me off!! And I'm someone who could probably benefit from having a support animal! I have a few anxiety issues where having a support animal would be great for me, but I would never force an untrained or unqualified animal on board if it wasn't necessary, because I know that not everyone tolerates animals.
Anyway, I'm glad Genevieve was able to realise her mistake. The people who do aren't aware of the harm they cause. We need more education on this matter!

That's true, but that's not all it's doing. It's something of a double edged sword. While, yes, it is teaching people how they can break the law and abuse the system, it is also telling the people on the other side of the counter what they need to be looking for. Instead of just taking everything at face value to try to avoid causing someone embarassment, they should ask to see the proper documentation, if allowed by law. I don't know if it applies to ESA's, but all any business can do if someone comes in with a service animal is ask "is it a service animal?" and "what service does it provide?" and that's it. They can't ask why you have the animal or what your disability is. I would think this would apply to ESA's too, but I'm not certain.

I have an emotional support dog with an official diagnosis papers for 3 anxiety disorders and a panic disorder and a letter from my psychologist but I still worry that I would get in trouble for him. People who do this are giving us who need emotional support and service animals a bad name.

At the end she talks about how it was too easy, and hopes that changes are made. This isn't anyone's fault but hers! She was the one who was dishonest, she was the one who took advantage! It shouldn't be hard for people who actually need this, it should be easy! As a society, let's stop blaming others when we act like pieces of shit, eh? It reminds me of growing up as a young woman, I was taught how not to get raped. Perhaps instead we should teach people not to rape. Same principle applies.

PLEASE don't ruin this for people who actually need emotional support animals. I don't need my medically prescribed emotional support animal for comfort related to flight anxiety, but I need her in my day-to-day life to ease symptoms of depression and anxiety. I would hate to see people who need their ESAs on flights have their comfort animals banned because of people abusing the system.

JulesValuableVlogger, you don't have any animal-based allergies, do you.
Because if you did, you would KNOW what kind of hell it is to have to suffer through an attack with no possible relief.
Service dogs, such as the ones provided to the visually-impaired, the hearing-impaired or mobility issues are usually very clean and well-trained. They can be tolerated for short periods by those with allergies because it takes a while for the dander to form and come off the skin.
But little Miss Imsofragile with her ESA pussycat, or bad-tempered little dog needs to find a different way to travel.

Personally, I think ESAs’ should be allowed to fly. However, special services that make you pay a fee to get some vest and false certification should be outlawed. Like this, it can be abused and there are so many horror stories about badly behaved “ESAs’”. Not only should you get a personal letter from a psychiatrist, but also go through training where the dog can handle aggression.
I suffer from severe depression and anxiety and do have an ESA. But personally, getting one and training one should have stricter regulations.

I have an emotional support dog for my PTSD, anxiety, depression and because of past abandonment issues, but I don't feel the need to always have him when I'm in public or to fly. He's there's because I get depressed being left alone at home and when I get get really stressed out whether is be from work or school. I have a note from a mental health professional, and really wish people wouldn't abuse the system.

Paulette Martinez I wasn't speaking out against those who do actually need the dog at all times or for most of the times. I am well aware that people NEED dogs to cope and that they do help with anxiety. I'm sorry you experience panic attacks and glad you have a companion. I wish I brought my dog to work with me sometimes because he's the only thing that keeps me calm after a mad rush.
