Worth noting, but there was originally pushback with the bread slicer kill. They didn't believe that a bread slicer could really do that to a skull, so they brought a watermelon to test it. They were fully expecting it not to work, but it surprised them and it did.
The bread slicer kill really shocked me. It really seemed like they'd do the common trope where she'd turn it around and kill/escape skull mask, but instead she just dies. Shocked me and GOD THAT WAS SOME COOL GORE
Yeah, especially after the muffin tray block and cake splat, seemed kinda fun. Then suddenly you get a brutal as fuck kill. Also, just realised it kinda echoed the opening girl with the accidental book block and escape moments only for her pleading with her friend to kinda kick you in the gut.

I wasn't expecting to see this so soon after all the auto blocks James was getting. Thank you James for your dedication to this and all the other videos.
I think what made Kate's death so shocking for me was that I thought it was going to be one of those horror movies where everyone makes it out in the end. It changed subgenres suddenly and violently -- I remember thinking "oh wouldn't it be ridiculous if they shoved her head through there??" And sure enough it was sad and shocking. (Also Kate was my favorite character)
When Kate died, it Shocked the absolute fuck out of me. She slowly became my favourite character in the film, and when she died I was heart broken. Thank you James for never giving up and managing to release this count.
Same. I didn't believe it was going to happen right up to the moment her head went in. It might just be the best horror kill in years. Aside from being so gloriously gory, I think it was so shocking and effective because it hit after a lengthy period since the last kill and after the film had told us everyone but Sam was safe, and the movie had really settled into a kiddie horror movie vibe.
I know Simon's attitude toward the murders in the beginning was pretty cold sounding, but honestly I think it was just to show how desensitized Shadyside as a whole is to the killings, since it happens so often throughout its history.
That's the vibe I got from it, yeah. Which would also help, with the addition of it being a call back to Scream, explaining the guy running down the hallway dragging an effigy and yelling about how "the witch lives!". These kids are seriously desensitized
Desensitized is one thing, but once one of your friends says they are uncomfortable with joking about a dead girl, it’s not great form to keep doing it.
Yeah and I think teenagers in particular will be a little more joke-y about stuff like this both to put up a brave front (I'm not scared guys!! im joking about it bc I'm sooooo not scared!) and because *some* aren't quite at an appropriate level of empathy yet :/ not to hate on teenager or anything, I just remember so many people in my high school making jokes about serious world events/tragedies in ways that ranged from tasteful dark humor to edgey mcedgelord shit. but maybe that was just my experience with 2000s/2010s era teenager life. hopefully less assholes making tasteless 'jokes' these days lol (but I doubt it)
Also to add to this I feel like sometimes teenagers have a sense of being immune to danger. Unless they are direct friends or related to the people involved in tragedy, they'll feel like it couldn't possibly happen to them. Of course they can make jokes about it because it would never ever happen to them!! /sarcasm
She saves them only to die slow painfully cause no one saves her despite time for them to come and hear her scream as she's being held in place anyone could sneak up on him and get her out...why do movies shows books always do that? ...why save someone usually a main character who won't die anyways later either if that means your next a few minutes later or next film or later on next scene...like I hate that trope...kill the mains let the pals live for trying to save someone someone should save her and also I hate when someone dies saving someone in horror that will die anyways too...it's so annoying...

I imagine having 5 million subs really expedites the claim release process lol. But yeah this channel is precious if something happened to it I would burn down everything and then myself.
I don’t understand why he doesn’t just make problem movies patreon only. It’ll drive more people to his patreon and as long as people don’t rat patreon doesn’t care about copyright infringement really, I’ve seen plenty of podcasts get away with it.
@@louis8487 Just because you might have the advantage of his patreon doesn't mean everyone does. James loves for more and more people to enjoy and watch his content here on youtube, and also if a certain kill count heavily blows up, it can make more money than what his patreon did in a month.
I may be the only one to feel this way, but Simon’s and Kate’s deaths were really unexpected for me. They made it so far to the end of the movie, both escaping death multiple times, only for them to die a good 15 minutes before the end of the movie But I will say, Kate’s death was honestly really creative, I’ve never seen it done in any horror movies I’ve seen before. Simon’s death was less creative but it was still unexpected
Same, that was one of my favorite parts of the movie. They lulled us into thinking the main cast had plot armor and then all bets were off. And I genuinely thought her lil bro, Sam, and Deena were all fair game at that moment.
@@carlom3565 I agree, seeing them last that long and still die was suprising in a good way. no one in that friend group is happy by the end of part one :(
I’m fairly certain I’m alone with this, but I was hoping they’d kill Simon off cuz I couldn’t stand his character. Kate’s death was unexpected, but both of their death’s were completely avoidable by the rules the film had established just a few scenes prior. Their deaths came off as just shock value to me, and while it definitely worked and held conversation amongst viewers, neither felt warranted to me
@@famousthaneus9810 nope I fully agree. They felt like they were there purely because they needed to have some kills rather than actually working as part of the story. Plus as cool as Kate's kill was it's kind of overly mean for a film like this? She could be a bit of a prick at times but I'm not sure I got much satisfaction out of her being brutally murdered right before the end
I went into it thinking this would be some bland teen stuff, but the trilogy definitely delivered in the gore and horror, and got into the pulpy core of the source material. The cast was so good too!
I grew up reading the Fear Street books. They were my favorite. So I can’t lie, I was actually pretty excited when I saw that Netflix was putting out the movies. It did not disappoint. I hope they actually do decide to do more with the series.
Same. When I was watching the movie, I reached that scene and was totally like “They won’t do it. They definitely won’t do it.” And then they did it. And then I freaked out.
I guess some people ended up watching it cause of the whole update he posted on not getting the video through (I sure was one of them lol). At first I was like "Netflix wouldn't d... Omg they did it, amazing!!!". Thanks dead meat for introducing me to this!
As someone who was a teen in the 90s, this movie was wonderfully nostalgic. Everything from Maya Hawke (her parents were massive 90s pop culture stars) to the familiar Fear Street cover art to the Scream references and the soundtrack. I didn’t have high hopes for this series but I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable and fun it was. Thank you for covering it - I never would have watched it otherwise!!!
Yeah, the kill that earned the Golden Chainsaw in this one absolutely disturbed me. Not just in how gruesome the end result was, but in how chilling her screams of realization that she was gonna die were. Those screams will be in my nightmares forever. So… um, well done?
Literally same!!! Her screams going from screams to a more “croaking” sound (which I assume is from her windpipe getting crushed), terrified me and it was so well done.
It may not be seen as scary as a whole or respected by horror fans like some of the classic slashers but that death is scarier more tension filled and perfectly gory plus kinda ironically a dark comedy moment with also good timing than most kills in those films that go for maybe one of those feelings not all of them at one time and try too hard too attain it but fail..bravo for nailing all of those feelings which makes it iconic stick with tich you and sad...a top tier 2020's horror kill for the decade already.....a kid being stabbed and killed that way just hits different....it's haunting
That bread slicer kill was so gnarly, I'm so glad my cousin was watching this with me. She lightened the mood by saying, "that is definitely a golden chainsaw".
I cannot explain how hard I laughed when Deena is trying to revive Sam with the epipens and is all like “This has to work, it has to!”. And I’m just like yeah Deena idk if epipens cover fcking drowning to death. Idk if they were designed to cure that 😂. Like I get the epipens we’re part of the plan to bring Sam back from all those pills but like the pills didn’t work and Deena literally kills Sam by drowning her ass in the lobster tank instead.
Guys, I think we need to give James around of applause, he had to go through mental and probably emotional hell in order to get this one Kill Count out for us, he’s an absolute beast of a UA-camr; and I will forever be subscribed to Dead Meat
When I was something like 8 or 9 years old, I guess my teacher didn’t know the difference between goosebumps and fear street because one was on her book cart. So, I ended up reading a novel with horrific death scenes. Fun!
I read about 40 goosebumps books when I was a kid. I think I might read the fear st ones now. And by the way I'm 36 and rl stine got me super into scary stories
I remember reading the scary stories to tell in the dark books when I was like 8, courtesy of the school library. The stories may have just creeped me out, but the pictures terrified me. Fun for me too!
A big shout out to James for getting this one out. It clearly wasn’t easy, and thank you for working well past when things were reasonable for us. Even though I’m not the biggest horror fan in the world, there’s a definite reason Dead Meat is one of my absolute favorite UA-cam channels.
I love the scene where Deena and Sam are arguing just cause of one thing When Deena says: ”All you had to do was suck it up, literally!” Peter is like ”Well you’re not wrong”
I swear, I usually am such a baby when it comes to horror movies, but I loved this trilogy. Ruby Lane was hands down the scariest part of this entire thing though 😭
@@CB.Blazin I can think of a couple reasons she'd be scary without having a ton of screen time. The big one is that she's the only killer with a specific verbal thing, the others might grunt or roar as they're attacking but Ruby Lane sings constantly. You hear her coming before you see her, which is a nifty tension builder and makes her feel a bit more unique compared to Skull Mask and the Camp Nightwing killer who have obvious bases in other movie slashers. The other thing I can really think of is that there just aren't a ton of slashers that are female. Women are almost always on the slashee end of the knife rather than being the killers, even to the point that Pamela Vorhees gets forgotten as the killer in Friday the 13th part one. So having a fairly small, fairly normal looking woman as one of the killers could make her stand out a bit thus upping the perception of her as scarier. There's also that what's scary can be super subjective, but that's the boring answer and I like it less for that
I'm someone who really loved all the Fear Street movies, especially this one. Does it have flaws? Yes. Stupid moments? Yes. But it's a movie that I had fun watching and I really like the fandom. I mainly judge movies based on if I had fun watching it and these movies I had fun watching
I loved the first and 3rd one. I was disappointed with the 2nd one. It wasn't bad but it was slightly boring. I really hated the side plot with Cindy stuck in the cave. It was a snooze fest and the off-screen kills made the moments that were supposed to be horrifying and exciting, boring and disappointing. The plot twist was predictable at the end too. It's a decent movie though. my ranking from worst to best is Part 2 Part 1 Part 3
Same for me. This trilogy was immediately placed in my top 10 horror movies. Yes, meaning all three are in my top 10. The second one was my favorite even though it could drag at points just because we get to see how sweet and amazing of a boyfriend Tommy is before he gets possessed and goes all Jason Voorhees on the camp and the end hit me right in the feels, but the first one is right behind for me with it's amazing characters. I fucking swear I'm Simon IRL lol. But no matter who you are, there's one thing we can all agree on... My girl Kate didn't deserve that bread slicer shit. I mean yeah she wanted to throw Sam to the killers at one point, but she thought it was the only way! Fucking amazing trilogy!
What made me not like this movie it had so many holes yes it was fun but I didn't like the Romance between Sam and Dianna it was painfully obvious how fake it was but I love the side characters
I love the detail with the team names that served as a very early forshadowing. While the Shadyside team has an appropriate name of Witch, it’s the Sunnyvale team’s Devil that really showed their true nature. A very neat detail that I never see much people point out.
YES i was really confused at first why Sunnyvale wouldn't be like angels or something good and then u realize the goodes are actually workinf with the devil and its such a nice little detail
Usually the shady side killers go after only the shady siders, the one who bled on the bones, or anyone that got in the way of the killers, so that’s probably why Betty and Stephanie the receptionist died.
Yeah, I figure it was just a case of "they don't kill you if you're not bloody and you don't try to stop them". Receptionist would definitely have tried to stop Skully, and his whole undead situation meant he couldn't make a Diplomacy or Bluff check, so he went for a reliable old attack roll instead.
Being the nurse that was in charge of Sam, I'm guessing, Beddy probably had Sam's blood on him though. I can definitely see why he was killed. Not sure about the receptionist, though. I guess if it was on Beddy's clothes near his arms he could've brushed against her or something when going for a file.
@@tofanpurnomowaisaka503 I think it was because he was in the way at that point. If he stayed alive, he’d probably go to security about Sam getting killed or try to fend it off.
I thought it was weird how Deena really didn’t seemed too phased that both of her friends were brutally murdered but hey her girlfriend is fine so I guess it’s cool
No because they wouldn't of stopped the devil from coming back. Just because the person they were going after dies doesn't mean it will stop like what happened in all of the 300 years.
I love these movies. Heather's death hurt a bit, because she realized her friend was killing her and if I were in her place I would have despaired at the senselessness of it all.
I actually think the teens reaction in the beginning to the murder is pretty on point coming from people who experience things like that pretty often. As you grow you become desensitized to the tragedy and eventually make jokes about it. As a kid who grew up in a pretty shitty area you just kinda shrug your shoulders and move on when it comes to tragedy.
THIS! As someone who grew up in BK during the '80s and '90s, focusing on everyone who died around you would've driven you mad hence why you learn other coping mechanisms like deflecting with humor.
I love how James becomes the voice of reason here like “HOWS THAT NOT FUN?” “Uhm Bc someone died” 😂 maybe that was just funny to me but hope you and ur gf have a great day and stay safe much love✌️♥️
That legit gave off Ron Weasley vibes Remember the end of Goblet of Fire when he said “It’s been quite a year at Hogwarts!” Right after Cedric fucking died?
The thing about Beddy and the receptionist's deaths is that they physically got in the way of Skull Mask. So they were both killed. See how Skull Face runs past the other kids during the hospital and Nightwing killer runs past josh when he steps out of the way. Anyone in their way gets murdered
16:00 the reason Skull Mask killed the nurses is because they were in his way. The killers target is Sam, yeah, but they'll also kill anyone in their way.
This trilogy is what made me fall in love with horror, I had watched horror movies before and been afraid and found them tacky until I watched this and realised that some horror movies can have depth which is the main reason I love cinema and tv shows in general the depth and messages that people can get through in them, I love how relatable and realistic the characters in fear street are I especially related to Ziggy and Cindy's relationship which made me cry so hard when they died
“and ties Sam up with something called a *phone cord* .” XD Also LOVED that “to the numbers” bit, that might rival The Lighthouse as one of my favorites
Movie kills rarely really get me, but that bread slicer kill just hits something deep inside me. It’s so well done and horrific, definitely sticks with me.
As someone with allergies and has been taught that epipen can be dangerous if not used correctly, seeing dina use all those epipens on sam makes me so anxious
James: It's not funny because someone died! Also James: Golden Chainsaw for coolest kill goes to Kate. I mean her head was sliced into bread sized pieces!
I felt it was pretty predictable. I hoped that the plot twist was that Nick Goode was a good guy but no. Still a great watch but I felt it had so much more potential.
@@cantorlok2815 what? I'm literally not talking about the point of the movie, I'm just saying that in my opinion it was very predictable and for that reason I believe that this movie trilogy is not great.
@@cantorlok2815 Yes, I completely get that and it is the reason why the movie is so predictable but in my opinion it also makes the movies bad. And Nick Goode being a good person wouldn't have necessary subverted expectations. He seemed friendly and a good person in the second movie and you don't always have to follow in your families footsteps. So I don't think it would have been unreasonable that he could have been a good guy. The bad guy could have been the mayor his cousin or was it his brother don't remember.

at 16:00 when James was confused why skull mask killed the receptionist and b-eddy was probably because they inadvertently tried to keep him away from Sam while josh stood to the side of nightwing saying nothing so in other words you interfere with the killers task/goal you get killed but if you let them pass you stay alive Edit: this is not a great way but the most sensible way of explaining those plot holes and yes in this theory there is plot holes like alice in part 2 but if you watch the film with this in mind at least it doesnt seem like skull mask is doin whatever he feels like
@@cnnproductions5712 well I think they were using her blood as a way to figure out where she is. They think where the blood is, she is. I saw R.L. Stine do a small panel at a convention a few years ago and he was asked about what scares him - something I’m sure a lot of scary book authors get asked. His answer was that a while back, he and his young son were at a car show and his son accidentally wandered away from him. It was only for a minute and his son was totally fine (I think he even said his son was like “dad I’m okay what are you freaking out about”), but he said it truly scared him. I found it a pretty wholesome answer.
I like the way they represented women x women, they aren’t the token ‘we’re a progressive movie’ lesbians with their only personality traits being stereotypes, they’re people who are also gay, rather than just gay people. As a lesbian teen it’s a breath of fresh air :)
I wish deena wasn’t so mean to sam for half the movie even though i get why since we’ve all been teens and know how flip floppy our emotions were during that time. Odd place to ask question on UA-cam but am i right in thinking that sam was bi or was that a psychological thing, just wondering since as someone who is the former idk how people who lean toward a specific gender are. This is a long comment but if someone reads all this thanks for sticking with it
too bad deena was so insufferable though, she literally takes no accountability with anything she did and gaslights sam for wanting a better future and to come out when it was clear she wasn’t ready especially when it was 1990’s when there was a still a huge stigma against lgbt people.

God I loved this series. I'm really glad slashers have been making a come back lately, and honestly the plot is pretty original with having multiple slashers with their own stories
the most brutal deaths in my opinion are: 1. kate's bread slicer death 2. william (billy) barker braining a guy in the head 3. when that nurse guy got his throat stabbed by ryan
“Wraps her up in this thing called a phone cord” “How many people are about to be looking at the shady side of a coffin lid?” This is High-tier script writing

Yeah and I think teenagers in particular will be a little more joke-y about stuff like this both to put up a brave front (I'm not scared guys!! im joking about it bc I'm sooooo not scared!) and because *some* aren't quite at an appropriate level of empathy yet :/
not to hate on teenager or anything, I just remember so many people in my high school making jokes about serious world events/tragedies in ways that ranged from tasteful dark humor to edgey mcedgelord shit. but maybe that was just my experience with 2000s/2010s era teenager life. hopefully less assholes making tasteless 'jokes' these days lol (but I doubt it)
Also to add to this I feel like sometimes teenagers have a sense of being immune to danger. Unless they are direct friends or related to the people involved in tragedy, they'll feel like it couldn't possibly happen to them. Of course they can make jokes about it because it would never ever happen to them!! /sarcasm
Kate's death shook me so hard to the core that I hardly even comprehended Simon's

I may be the only one to feel this way, but Simon’s and Kate’s deaths were really unexpected for me. They made it so far to the end of the movie, both escaping death multiple times, only for them to die a good 15 minutes before the end of the movie
But I will say, Kate’s death was honestly really creative, I’ve never seen it done in any horror movies I’ve seen before. Simon’s death was less creative but it was still unexpected
Same, that was one of my favorite parts of the movie. They lulled us into thinking the main cast had plot armor and then all bets were off. And I genuinely thought her lil bro, Sam, and Deena were all fair game at that moment.
Yea these movies are supposed to subvert the typical horror tropes.

I grew up reading the Fear Street books. They were my favorite. So I can’t lie, I was actually pretty excited when I saw that Netflix was putting out the movies. It did not disappoint. I hope they actually do decide to do more with the series.

How dare you first comment. You can’t spoil stuff like that :0
I was so mad when they killed her
As someone who was a teen in the 90s, this movie was wonderfully nostalgic.

I swear, I usually am such a baby when it comes to horror movies, but I loved this trilogy. Ruby Lane was hands down the scariest part of this entire thing though 😭
How was she the scariest she got like the least screen time in all three movies
I read this comment in James‘ voice
There's also that what's scary can be super subjective, but that's the boring answer and I like it less for that
@@tympestbooks1727 same she is more unique
I said the axe guy is the scariest because he can run
I'm someone who really loved all the Fear Street movies, especially this one. Does it have flaws? Yes. Stupid moments? Yes. But it's a movie that I had fun watching and I really like the fandom. I mainly judge movies based on if I had fun watching it and these movies I had fun watching
Yes! I was so surprised when people said the first movie in the triology sucked i had such a fun time watching it
I loved the first and 3rd one. It's a decent movie though.
my ranking from worst to best is
Part 2
Part 1
Part 3
What made me not like this movie it had so many holes yes it was fun but I didn't like the Romance between Sam and Dianna it was painfully obvious how fake it was but I love the side characters
hey I didn’t love it but if it’s a movie you had fun watching that’s all that matters!
I love the detail with the team names that served as a very early forshadowing. While the Shadyside team has an appropriate name of Witch, it’s the Sunnyvale team’s Devil that really showed their true nature. A very neat detail that I never see much people point out.
Witches vs. The Devils sounds like a horror movie all its own.
YES i was really confused at first why Sunnyvale wouldn't be like angels or something good and then u realize the goodes are actually workinf with the devil and its such a nice little detail
I was so shocked when Kate died because the whole time I saw her wrestling with Torres I expected someone to intervene and save her at the last moment
What about Peter the Sunnyvaler? They have immunity according to 78.

@@ashvergentwell done bro. I love horror movies and that is an annoying stage to get through. It's a fairly gory kill compared to most movies so you should be good unless you watch something like terrifier!!!!
I just now watched the movie tonight, and let me tell you, I absolutely loved it. At first I thought it was going to be a generic slasher, but it ended up being much more. It might even be one of my new favorite horror films.
I’m loving the humor in this Kill Count 😂
“YEAH!”
“No!”
Thanks for the double Kill Count James!
I watched the first two minutes, paused, watched all the fear street movies, then watched this. I’m so excited for the rest of the series! When watching the movies I was so excited to hear your commentary on this series!!
These Kill Counts you keep bringing only makes us love horror films even more. All that blood spilling is a whole lot savory and sweet.
SO XCORE BRO!
If you like that you should watch Euphoria, I heard that show was also great for raw representation.
@@joogullae3456 YESS euprhoria is AMAZING
I wish deena wasn’t so mean to sam for half the movie even though i get why since we’ve all been teens and know how flip floppy our emotions were during that time. Odd place to ask question on UA-cam but am i right in thinking that sam was bi or was that a psychological thing, just wondering since as someone who is the former idk how people who lean toward a specific gender are.
This is a long comment but if someone reads all this thanks for sticking with it
🥱
too bad deena was so insufferable though, she literally takes no accountability with anything she did and gaslights sam for wanting a better future and to come out when it was clear she wasn’t ready especially when it was 1990’s when there was a still a huge stigma against lgbt people.
Glad to finally see the first of the Fear Street Kill Counts on the channel, also gotta love that the To The Numbers bit is you doing the Skeleton Dance, good stuff
I wonder if all the kids get the reference to that old cartoon... haha Classic!
@@tjfrizzi5965 they wouldn't know that classic, he danced like a bastard skelly
God I loved this series. I'm really glad slashers have been making a come back lately, and honestly the plot is pretty original with having multiple slashers with their own stories
Yeah it’s dope we’re in a Slasher Renaissance of sorts with movies like Freaky, Happy Death Day, Halloween 2018, Fear Street, and The Babysitter

“Something called a phone chord” was the funniest, subtlest lil joke. Love it
the most brutal deaths in my opinion are:
1. kate's bread slicer death
2. william (billy) barker braining a guy in the head
3. when that nurse guy got his throat stabbed by ryan
the nurse was a woman dont be transphobic

WHEN KATE DIED I WAS EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE-
🎼it’s a piece of cake to bake a pretty Kate 😭😍
“Wraps her up in this thing called a phone cord”
“How many people are about to be looking at the shady side of a coffin lid?”
This is High-tier script writing
I was so confused why she had to be tied up when clearly the woman on the phone _WASN'T_ a possessed murderess.
Loved this The Numbers transition, reminded me of those old Disney black and white spooky shorts.
I think it is

I’ve never been more excited to watch a kill count and I’m so happy James enjoyed these movies. They’re such a great watch and some of the best films that’ve come out this year
I know right. I was like a little kid on his christmas because the movies came out so quickly and felt like gifts. I feel spoiled lmao
@@DrMontrays the weekly releases were genius and kept me interested for the whole month. It really did feel like Christmas each time a new one came out knowing that we were gonna get more of the story and mystery of Shadyside told to us
@@elhopper3735 True true. Loves the series and it was so interesting. Thanks for talking to me! :)
@@DrMontrays you’re very welcome! and thank you for replying to my comment :)
Dude that fucking montage of all the killers is definitely my favorite scene of the movie. It just has a sort of aura to it that I ADORE
I think we are way past due for a skeleton tuxedo shirt.
Lol
Yea that would be epic
Are you supposed to be funny ?
Don't you comment on every video?
😂
I read nearly every single Fear Street book when I was growing up. R.L Stine was one of my favorite authors as a kid in the 90's. I started out with Goosebumps, and went on to Fear Street.
Seeing James do a Kill Count for this series is such a wonderfully surreal thing.
Seeing them being made into Netflix films is also very surreal.
Now this is what I’ve been waiting for, can’t wait
The killer that made me truly frightening was Isaac. The dude that’s like 8 foot always wears that welder mask and is in the last part of fear street three. Hope we see more of him on the series.
