Thank you for a well detailed video. I got two questions for you: 1- Do I need to buy the gasket or does it come with the new oil cooler? 2- I see you listed the retaining clip, but your link shows the cooler line connector. Is the connector needed or just the clip. I am planning on tackling this job next week and wanted to make sur I order the needed parts. Also, you might need to update your links to the retaining clip and pick set. Thanks again!!!
Great video, thanks for posting! One tip in case it helps anyone else: I really struggled to get my ratchet in after lowering the differential, so I tried coming from the front of the engine instead of directly underneath and found it much easier to get the nut off the retaining bracket that way. I didn't need a swivel socket going that route either, just a deep dish 10mm and a short extension (may not be needed, just made it a little easier). FWIW it's still worth lowering the diff to get a little extra space to finish the job. GM sure could use to learn a lesson from Mercedes about oil filter and oil cooler placement. This is 5 bolts, a gasket, and 10 minutes on a Mercedes, top front of the engine bay too (right next to the oil filter). Sheeeesh what a terrible design from GM. I also love that they made one foot of each of these lines rubber for absolutely no reason other than to ensure that they will leak at the terrible crimp joints so you can pay to replace them. There's no other conceivable reason for such a terrible design, it's just engineered to break. 🤮
Great video. Wound up replacing my oil coolant line and the vacuum pump at the same time, so I felt I had a little more room to play with when I installed the new oil coolant line. Don't forget that oil pan under the oil coolant inlet lines. 🤦
great video. I need to do the same on a 2019 model. I saw your comments below that it is more challenging due to less space. Can I also get the instructions you shared with one of your other viewers?
It doesn't make on the lift or ground when I take out the two 18mm bolt the diff dropped a little bit for clearance of the 10mm nut that attach the cooler to the block it won't drop any further down than that it is still held by the drive shift the 2 cv axle and the passenger side bolts ,
I'm about to have to do this on my 2020 denali. Dealer replaced them under warranty 1st time. This time it's on me at 105k miles. On interstate lost all oil in a matter of seconds. Pulled straight over. Hope engine isn't effed.
Great video! Will this work for the previous generation? I have a 2009 Tahoe with 4WD. Looks like I could drop the front differential like you did and get the lines in and out. Maybe?

These and the valve cover gaskets are always going to leak by 200k. Thankfully both are fairly simple and can to both at home in a few hours or less. Besides the small bs, still can’t beat the 5.3
My truck has these issues. Clearly was a manufacturing issue but Chevy only released a recall for a certain number of trucks within a certain VIN #. So now everyone is stuck paying over 1k out their own pockets because Chevy doesn’t want to acknowledge this issue. Absolutely terrible and disgusting a company making billions of dollars a year can’t do what’s right and cover these costs when they already know it’s a known issue. This guy even clearly states he’s fixed A LOT of them.
There was no struggle if you follow his guidelines. Just twist the cooler portion that bolts onto the engine. It’s really simple i watch his video and got it done under labor rate hrs. So this is what I call a skill issue.

Hey is it worth it because local mechanic shop charges about 400$ for part and labor .
That's actually a very price, it is way higher at the dealer

So when you drop the differential is the truck sitting on the ground? not jacked up or on a lift? And do you need a jack to get the diff back up?

Do You put it back up by hand or a jack under it?
I’ve got the oil block unbolted but just don’t have the clearance to get the lines out. Thank you.
@DrZ71 put it by hand it is not as heavy as it look
Thanks!
where you get caps for the lines to not leak ?
is it more easy to drain the oil and filter for less oil leak?
thank you!
You welcome, that just cap i saved from previous job when the new parts comes in
would it be best to drain all oil first?
Not necessary at all
Nice job well done very well explained step by step...thanks! 👍😎

Is this the engine oil cooler lines or transmission oil cooler lines? And are those coming from the condenser

Do you have a recommendation of how much oil to add after the job?
A little less than half a quart
Read the lipstick and add accordingly 😂

You can try but not worth it, the diff will be held by the frame, once you remove the 2 bolts

How much a job like.this cost with parts , I have 2019 sierra purchased new , with 80k miles

the dealership just told me mine is leaking and it was quoted at $833. 2019 silverado 1500.
Yea the 2019 are even more labor intensive
Might get it done cheaper outside of a dealership
well crap, dealership told me i actually have an extended warranty i didnt even know about. got it done today for $100 (deductible). im happy af.
Will this line cause the truck to overheat?
No it shouldn't, since the cooler is built in the radiator if it is leaking i can see it other than that no

Add the upper oil pan on that list
Out the door cost for labor?
About 650 to 700 could be less
ok so WHY does it leak? is it a cheap line? gasket? driving it like a sports car? i think ill just let them fix it lol.
Cheaply made, they always leak at the crimp

I cannot get these damn little pins in for the life of me
Use a pick or remove the fitting completely, using a 19mm wrench
the more I look up these trucks the more they seem like they were designed to leak oil
I can't disagree with you, these trucks are not built like they used to be.
What a bull-dick design. Thanks GM! Oil cooler in the radiator ... you are fired GM!
Not as bad as it look lol
