    Flea’s funk- and jazz-influenced basslines helped propel the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the top of the rock and alternative charts while redefining the role of bass in the modern era. Flea’s unique playing style brought a welcome breath of fresh air to the musical landscape of the past four decades, inspiring countless bassists to add a funky touch to their sound while exploring new techniques and harmonic possibilities. To celebrate his enduring influence, we’ve precisely recreated his prized Shell Pink '61 Jazz Bass, used to record the Peppers' Stadium Arcadium and The Getaway, as well as with the supergroup, Atoms For Peace.
    We’ve carefully reproduced his personal instrument’s faded Shell Pink finish, as it exists today, and then perfectly replicated Flea’s playing wear. A special neck plate engraved with Flea’s own artwork commemorates the inspirational bassist behind this instrument. The rest of the bass is as vintage-accurate as possible, paying homage to “the greatest bass I’ve ever played...”
    Flea’s unique playing style has brought a welcome breath of fresh air to the musical landscape of the past four decades, inspiring countless bassists to add a funky touch to their sound while exploring new techniques and harmonic possibilities. Melding rhythm and melody with fierce personal style, Flea’s left his mark on modern music - just as Fender continues to do - and the Flea Jazz Bass is the perfect tool for players to unleash their own style on the world.
    A pair of vintage-style, American-made Pure Vintage ’64 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups provides classic, original-era Fender tone with clear articulation, clear low end definition, up-front midrange punch and singing high end. The vintage-accurate stacked concentric controls shape the pickups’ volume and tone, as well as allowing the pickups to be blended in any ratio. The Flea Jazz Bass plays fast and easy, thanks to its period-accurate 21-fret “U”-shaped maple neck with a smooth Road Worn urethane finish on the back, plus a 7.25"-radius rosewood fingerboard with a 1.5" wide nut. The vintage-style bridge sports four threaded steel “barrel” saddles, adding a touch of crispness to enhance the attack for tone that can power through a busy mix.
    Shell Pink is the rarest of Fender’s classic Custom Color finishes, and Flea’s ’61 Jazz Bass is quite possibly the only one in existence. We’ve carefully recreated his personal instrument’s exact faded shade as it exists today, and then applied an eye-catching Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer finish that perfectly replicates Flea’s playing wear. A special neck plate engraved with Flea’s own artwork commemorates the inspiration behind this instrument. Other aesthetic touches include nickel/chrome hardware, 3-ply tortoiseshell pickguard and aged white dot position inlays. Melding rhythm and melody with fierce personal style, Flea’s left his mark on modern music, and the Flea Jazz Bass is the perfect tool to make your own.

    I wish I knew about the reverse tuners before I called the dealer up and reamed them out for sending me a "backwards, left-handed tuner, or some such nonsense" piece of crap. In my defense, the guy I reamed out didn't know about them either, and said I probably need to re-string it the other way. So we were both idiots ignorant to the facts. After i researched the reverse tuners, I fell in love with this bass. It is simply awesome.

      I've tried both. The Flea is much better and has a real Rosewood fretboard. Just needs a good setup as out of the box they are hit and miss. But get the setup done properly and it is an absolute killer jazz bass.

    • @christocr

      USA Geddy is a nice sounding bass, but so is this one. I actually prefer the look of this bass (the beating up thing I could live without).

    • @mouthmw
      @mouthmw 7 років тому +4

      I hate the pearl white guard on the USA Geddy Lee (hate hate hate pearl white guards, tacky and ugly as hell), pearl block inlays (yuck) and the overall anemic pale maple color. Oh and the bridge, don't care for those high mass bridges at all (also, ugly). If the Flea jazz is setup to perfection, there's nothing realistically to "out perform" it. It sounds great, looks great and feels great (with the right setup). I'd take it any day over the Geddy Lee USA model.

    • @2002nkpB
      @2002nkpB 7 років тому

      mouthmw atleast the 2 flea basses I played would fret out when you got up past the 16th fret. Plus it is pretty stupid though how they don't even give you a case when you buy it.

    • @mouthmw
      @mouthmw 7 років тому +2

      True, some fret work filing wouldn't hurt. What also didn't help with the fret sprout is the fact that the fingerboard is dry as hell. I'm planning on getting one tomorrow, and it's currently being setup by a tech I trust. That is, IF the setup goes well and there are no truss rod/neck issues.
      Too bad about the hard case sure, but all Road Worn series basses come in a gig bag.

      For starters, the American basses have graphite reinforcement bars in the neck, and have much better hardware and wiring. For $900 I can buy a used USA Jazz and update the wiring to '60-'61 specs.

    • @duncangarvey8893
      @duncangarvey8893 6 років тому +5

      Brock Landers I think you’ll find this bass has American pick ups and wiring in it. I’ve owned all levels of bass and I’ve got one of these, it’s a great instrument. Drop the US made snobbery, I have a 1978 US Precision and it’s no better than my flea bass. Then again, it’s the player not the bass that makes a bass sound great.

      Why do people make such stupid comments? It’s Mexican, so what, it has vintage American pups in it ffs. I’ve owned and extensively played a 1978 USA Precision, a 90s Japanese Precision, a 90s Japanese Geddy Lee Jazz, a 2000s Mexican Precision, a cheap Chinese made Squier PJ and this Flea bass, and in all honestly they all are largely the same, it’s the player not the instrument that counts, this Flea bass is great to play and has real vintage tone, don’t avoid buying one just because some schmuck says “oh, it’s Mexican”.
