    Great comparison!
I own a Flea jazz bass and I'm used to hear it, but it still took me a couple of replays on two of the clips to be sure. The differences are subtle, but I feel like the Flea is warmer and the other jazz is brighter. I have purchased the Flea exactly because I prefer that tone.
By itself it's already gorgeous and dynamic, but the neck pickup tone alone can pass as a P bass better than most jazz basses can, which is a nice feature. Plus, maybe it's just my ears, but the bridge by itself sounded more Jacoesque than the other bass with its 16th notes and harmonics.
Is it my imagination, though, or the Flea is a bit lower on output?
Anyway, amazing basses and a super well made comparison video!

That was really interesting, and great playing by the way. I got 1, 2 and 3 correct but not 4. The big difference for me is the rear pickup placement of the 78, so generally that was the giveaway. Both basses sound great though. For me the 78 had a slightly better slap sound but the Flea had a slightly better front pickup sound. Both were asgood as each other on the rear pickup and finger style with both pickups on. BUT, given the Flea is 1/3 the price makes it very attractive. It sometimes just needs a good setup as out of the box the neck may need adjusting, and that means removing the pickguard on the Flea.

Thanks but changing A and B was very misleading, I guessed correct for first and last test but for others i was confused what's going on!!!

Paradoxically I prefer Flea's bridge pick up even when the 70's position is a "signature" of 70's jazz basses. In the rest of comparison I prefer the 78, It sounds deeper to me. Anyway both are a good choices.

Dear Sir, thank you for the nice video, but I hope you know that the current American Basses are different than what was produced in the Fullerton factory pre 84 when they moved to Japan for a few years. Even the body shape of the jazz bass is different than it was before(CBS and Pre-CBS eras). I would suggest doing this video with a more recent American bass(The Corona built ones) Nevertheless, thank you for the great video.

good content, but you can instantly tell, alder from ash, they sound completely different. I wish the test was more balanced. I also liked the 78 more.
