The green Aquis 41.5 Cal 400 is on my wrist right now. I can’t say enough good about this watch. If you’re on the fence, consider this a sign. Buy it. You will love it.
Ask any respected watchmaker if that watch is a cheap shitter, and record their reaction. Providing they even take you serious and answer the question.
I just recently went to Europe and considered an Oris for the first time. I am a submariner owner and kinda tired of seeing it so much, the sub is definitely too much money for what you get. Is not about cheap shifter is about paying and getting the right value for your money.
I love these alternative value recommendations that only Tim can suggest with his integrity! I have had my eye on the Oris green dial diver for a while, and now that Tim has given it his seal of approval will be buying one soon. I also like the Sartory Billard, but my concern is getting it serviced in the US. Let me know your experience if you own one. Lastly, shout out to RGM in Pennsylvania!
Amazing as always Tim! I have an SB aventurine dial piece which is amazing. Live half an hour away from RGM and seriously considering this diver. Thanks as always!. RE: the SB, I don't think the movement is all that complicated, a La Joux-Perret automatic G100. If needing service, a center such as Goverberg Service Center can service this admirably, especially once out of warranty
That's a tough one. I believe Stone Creek did some custom straps for Devon, and that's important here because all of those involved complex fabrication around plastic inserts and possibly CAD specs from Devon to re-create the factory shape. The Cartier's lever-based quick release is integrated into the end of the strap, so any custom builder would probably need an intact OEM strap just to salvage and repurpose the quick release. I suspect that custom builders also might have reservations about advertising such a service since the Cartier straps are so proprietary and possibly covered by design and engineering copyrights. Best, Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews Tim , many thanks for your response, I didn’t realise you had done so. Apologies for the delay in acknowledging Kind regards David
One of the best episodes in recent memory. Looks like you were having fun! Thanks Tim!!! However, I cannot recommend that Devon Tread on a wrist smaller than 18 CM circumference. If you want to wear a tread, you’re gonna need a smaller one. 😊
Oris Aquis cal 400 for me. The specs are above the sub and it ticks every box as well. Tried both on and was surprised that the build quality of the Aquis was better than the sub. When I took it off I wanted the Oris back on.
Also, I purchased the caliber 400 Aquis 41 in black on bracelet, and while it is a fantastic value (I paid 2.2 k, brand new, on the grey market) it ultimately wasn’t for me. I think the overuse of high polish turned me off, and I felt that the fume dial on the black version wasn’t executed as well as it could have been.
Tim,…many thanks for your thoughtful and thorough analysis of the Cartier Santos de Cartier. I purchased the Santos Large Grey with ADLC bezel. It is packed with value and has that ‘je ne sais quois’ that other watches/brands don’t have. Trouble is,…I have seen the Large Green with the green alligator strap! Two Santos? Would I be crazy?
Is the 100m water resistance on the chronomaster legit? I’ve always wondered. Would you actually go swimming with pump pushers? What happens if they get pressed?
Yes, case construction has come a long way since the 1990s. 100-meter ratings with non-screw crowns aren't a concern unless you're pushing right up to the limit of the rating. Screw-down is always better, but a lot of those are more vulnerable in shallows than people understand. Quite a few robust-looking watches will pass a high-pressure test but fail a low pressure or vacuum test even from the factory. Best, Tim
Good to know! For some reason, I imagined it like north Texas or Oklahoma - where I have more first hand experience. But of course, they're not even close to Idaho on the map! Best, Tim
It reminds me of a place my friend took me when I was visiting Tacoma, WA. The donut shop had been a Dunkin Donuts that went rogue and broke away from the franchise. They went indie with their own recipes and pricing. The donuts were huge, delicious, and cheap. Best, Tim
I love seeing RGM getting some love! They’ll bespoke you anything from their line up. They do enamel over real rose guilloché better than anyone. I might have to pick up an RGM next. Same goes for Billiard! I have an SB04. Amazing what you can get and what I got. I’ll send more pics.
God the Rolex alternative discussion is so tired. At best it’s entirely uninteresting and worst it makes people talk themselves into a regrettable purchase when they really just wanted a Rolex. Tim, you always mention wanting/going to do episodes on interesting niche subjects… why’re we still doing Daytona vs Chronomaster Sport comparisons.
The biggest problem or issue with all watches! They are all extremely inferior to the Rolex submariner, too many comparisons without any merit or logic!
Rolex is a fine watch for sure. Is a Daytona worth 10's of thousands of dollars? Only if money is no object. The Chinese copies which are now fantastic show how much profit the Swiss make.
Lot's of misinformation here. NEVER take advice from a platform whose business it is to sell you watches. The prices do not only escalate and you know the Rolex Daytona is not going for 45k! Come on now! You can do better than that! Drop Drop! 🤣 Unbelievable!
Attention to detail: that's a screen shot of actual prices OTHER vendors are asking on chrono24, not my website. And none of those are watches I'm selling. If you took even a moment to check, you'd know we charge far less for the model. Best, Tim
Well, that would be cool. Some of the watches truly are world class and invite subversive comparisons to Rolex. BUT... Oris needs to weed out the lineup and trim some of the fat. There are too many models nobody recognizes, that Oris barely markets, and which competitors like Mido, Tissot, and Longines can beat with better hardware. The Oris Aquis+Divers, the traditional Pilots, Propilot X, and maybe some of the prestige-level caliber 110 Artelier watches should be the focus. Almost everything else should be culled. That, and there's a ton of grey market Oris floating around. They really need to clean that up before too many buyers start to notice -- and demand commensurate discounts. Best, Tim
Politics is the kryptonite of all things fun and relaxing. Think if it. At whose expense is the (alleged) laugh? The duped voter who regrets their choice? Or the steadfast voter, the allegiance of whom is unwavering? Either way, not cute. Move on…

The daytona white dial at grey market in Dubai is around 30,000 USD not 45k USD as stated

Haha - genius reference to George Santos! 😂
The Oris Aquis represents fantastic value, even with the extra cost of the calibre 400. Mine keeps my Omega Planet Ocean humble.
Great match ups
