God I miss Bill his and eves friendship was amazing with loving each other as friends so much and being platonic
I loved this scene. It was delicate and beautiful. The editing, lighting and Sandra’s acting combined was perfection. The emotions were conveyed with contrasting images, without any dialogue.
It invited us to reflect back on the show as a whole. And, for the first time, reflect on everything that’s happened from the first season up to that point, directly from Eve’s perspective, especially all the things/people she’s lost along the way. And yes, there were joy and laughs in her past life. Things we don’t think about until it’s gone.
This is momentous. Because most viewers forgot (or dismissed) Eve’s tremendous loss and trauma. Knowing her headspace explained so much about her behaviors.
With Eve’s PTSD - that’s why Yusuf who’s been through combat was in her life, as it seemed he’s the only one who understood her at that stage.
She’s been clearly wanting to die… all season we were getting hints of it, and he’s been there trying to help her make out of it alive. Like he said, from his last tour 7 returned but only 3 are alive. This was how bad of a shape Eve was in. She didn’t know how to move on, or even if she wanted to. Glad that she spoke to Martin and made progress from there.
Also the lyrics… “push it down, I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist, I'm gonna fly like a bird” … that’s so Eve.
And the tequila… it’s lowkey callback to Cristina Yang (in my mind anyway).
Up until this point other than the need for vengeance, Eve was a collection of actions with little or no context behind them leaving not enough about her character to empathize or identify with until now. Here we see all she'd lost and how much for them she never gave herself a chance to grieve.
This scene was so sad 😭😭
So many precious things lost because of Carolyn and Villanelle... Poor Eve.
This scene was good but Yusuf was so pointless. Replacing his scenes with Villanelle would’ve been so much better. Stole potential Villaneve screen time.

More like how much she lost.
The Karaoke Flashback not only highlighted how much Eve had lost to the 12 and her joint obsession with Villanelle which fuelled most of her poor choices, but also how she never had or gave herself a chance to mourn those losses. Which is something many failed to understand. And how can they when other than her need for vengeance, there was so little about Eve we were given to identify with until now? In the end, this delayed form of PTSD was another reason why Eve's "embrace of her darkness" failed to live up to it's promise.
Fun fact: It was Sandra Oh's idea to include the flashback of all her friends at the karaoke on Bills birthday which were the remnants of Eve's old life which was lost to her. This was meant to be Eve's opening scene before Waller-Bridge chose to take a different tact
You are so right, it was never about a complete backstory for eve but they should have at least give her time to breathe, a little exploration. This character will be most misunderstood and underrated of all time. Deserved better!
@@harshitamanghnani9315 On the subject of a backstory it would've been a perfect way of exploring origins of Eve's darkness while the descent was still more organic than the end result. The backstory for Carolyn pushed her character above E & V as the star of the show which was way above her station. The moment Villanelle became more relatable than the titular character, it was game over.
This was a good scene and it was interesting to hear Sandra say all the past characters shown in this scene was supposed to have been the opening scene in episode 1that got changed by phoebe waller-bridge as for yusuf just another character I couldn't care less about.
@Enby yes I've heard a interview with Sandra where she says when they asked me to do karaoke in this final series I knew we'd got the footage from season 1.
@Enby I actually wouldn't mind seeing some of the deleted scenes especially from season one and two.
