Thanks for using my video. It was a labor of love fixing the sound part which too me it the part of the video that counts. I have two more videos from her original video of songs she did. Grace had a problem near the end of the second song and the video ends before she was done the third song.
As for meaning behind the song for me. I'm a Vietnam War Vet and was stationed in Thailand loading bombs on B52s, my team loaded about 33,000 bombs in that year stationed there May 1970 to May 1971. I was engaged to my late wife Lorraine when there and had been for three years before we were married when I got back. I lost my heart over 9 years now, just married 40 years when she pasted and 43 total years together. She is the one that has gone on that jet plane never to come back.
You can check out my other videos on my channel, a couple are from my time in Thailand.

Here's a major recording artist willing to go live, in her treehouse, decorated with Christmas lights, singing into a phone. The full recording shows her laughing with us about the mike falling down (she's holding it up with her knees), and her batteries running low (twice), and pausing to scroll through lyrics. By reaching out like this during these crazy times, she's trying to help us be open with each other, to accept our imperfections. The full clip is at: ua-cam.com/video/EwK6WzM-yvc/v-deo.html

Grace has apparently been using some of her quarantine downtime to learn guitar . . . and it sounds pretty darn good. Love the reaction.

I highly recommend watching the full 17 minute live. Full of battery failures, mic balancing tricks, and charm for days. My favorite was That's On Me by Mac Miller. Omg, I feel sorry for anyone that can't feel Grace's vibe.

She is the original emotion singer - she does so good just spontaneous and still gets it right! Every cover I've head her sing, she does better than the original artist.

Grace has the voice that can only be hers, no one else possibly can sing those soft notes like her, that smokey low register is so good!!

Grace was charming as usual during this IG Live. She did it coffee house style, welcoming and chatting to her audience between the 3 songs she did, as if they were there with her. Her performance was a feat of multitasking; singing 🎶, playing the guitar 🎸 and holding the microphone 🎤 stand with her legs (it had broken off the base).
She streamed the mini concert from her treehouse (if you don’t know about it, see 'Treehouse Masters' S9 E8, "Grace VanderWaal’s Got Treehouse" (2017)).

John Denver wrote the song , but it was more popularly recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary. And perfected by Grace.

Actually, Cass Elliott wrote the song and gave it to John Denver. They both were in Laurel Canyon during the period 1965-70 along with the Byrds, David Crosby, Stephen Stills and many other singer/songwriters of the era. The Mamas & Papas were having all kinds of internal relationship issues. Cass wrote this for Denny Doherty.

You will kick your ass if you don't listen to this by Grace. I worked on Grace’s cover of I Need A Dollar, one of three songs she did in Instagram. I kept Grace’s intro, remove a ton of breaks in the Instagram and removed low battery drop out she had about half way thru the song. Grace takes a lot of liberties with the lyrics of the song, so don’t try to go by the original lyrics.

This was John Denver's first major success as a songwriter. He was still a relative unknown as a singer. He made a demo of it and gave a few out to friends as xmass presents. One to his manager/producer who also represented one of the biggest folk groups of the time. It went to #1 on most charts for Peter, Paul, and Mary in 1969. He talked about his first time hearing it, driving down the road when it came on the radio and he had to pull over because he was so excited and in shock. Of course that golden voice of his wasn't a secret for long and just a year later he had a hit with it as well reaching #2 on Billboard and #1 on several others.
I have to disagree with you about him not showing a lot of emotion in his vocals. If you are solely judging him by songs like Country Roads then you are missing out as he wrote and sang some incredible ballads just like this that were big hits for him and I encourage you to check them out even if you don't do reactions. His live performances never disappoint as his voice is pitch perfect every time.
He was a big crossover artist as well in a time where that was rare. He got play on contemporary pop as well as country stations and charted hits on both.

Unfortunately this version loses a lot with the still pictures. Watching her perform is half the fun.
A couple of years ago Fender put out two lines of Grace VanderWaal ukuleles. To help promote those ukuleles Grace performed one of her songs on one. The song she wrote for her brother who has had problems with addiction is called "A Better Life"
This is a link to that performance. ua-cam.com/video/nTphEozUkxg/v-deo.html

Every song she does is going to be special even a can't miss song like this one but the thing I'm impressed with is her improving guitar picking. If she starts writing songs from her guitar we should get some different types of songs maybe along the lines of Joni but I think she'll probably stick with the laptop process

OK, I think someone needs to speak up. I love Grace & her music. But I think the electric guitar here is pretty awful & ruins the song. I think her acoustic would sound way, way better. Tender and sweet. However, the worst thing is that the electric sounds out-of-tune. Way off. I know she has an electronic tuner so I assume that she didn't mean for this version to go public. And she sings it so beautifully. --love, don
