I'm surprised that not many people talk about this Series (Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse). Because this would be John K's first show that he would ever work on before going onto making Ren and Stimpy, which is one of the most influential Cartoons of all time. and John K even went to work on Two Stupid Dogs, which launched many animators into stardom

Pearl Pureheart had more personality in this 80's adaptation than she did in the theatrical cartoons of the 1940's and 50's. She not only was the damsel in distress, but also an owner of a cat food factory which she also ran and very well I might add. The funny line on the sign of her Mouseville Factory Works was: "A Hungry Cat Eats no Mice."

I am gonna say, this was propably my favourite animation lookback from you uptill now! just gave me so much info that I didn`t know about previously about an animator that has always had me fascinated. Even though the style for most of Ralph Bakshis production is a bit too risque for my tastes, the works that I have watched, like wizards have always caught my eye as nothing less but incredible. And now, this series really encouraged me to try out all the other movies in his catalogue!

I watched Filmation’s The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse, And I still love it, They even got Alan Oppenheimer to voice all the male characters including Mighty Mouse and Oil Can Harry, And that’s the voice of Skeletor mind you, And I should also note that the late Sam Simon ‘The Simpsons’ was the storyboard artist and sometime writer of that show.

JamesTheBrony/JTB I remember the Filmation one, but it didn’t last long until it ended by 1980. It was a really bad idea to revived an underrated character to the series. I remember WPIX-TV (channel 11) in NYC at the time ran the original Mighty Mouse cartoons on TV when it was on weekday mornings, along with a short segment called “The Most Important Person” which was shown during Mighty Mouse, and it was an educational short, and it was on between fillers.

At least MM was reunited with girlfriend Pearl Pureheart and archenemy Oil Can Harry both of whom appeared in every episode. Pearl it must be said made several career changes in each MM episode. But in the end she was still basically the damsel in distress who needed Mighty to rescue her. Plus I had a crush on Pearl. I would watch TNAOMM over THE SIMPSONS anyday.

You forgot how Ralph Bakshi did voice acting for Ren & Stimpy’s Adult Party Cartoon’s “Fire Dogs 2”. The firefighter character from the original Ren & Stimpy Show was based entirely on Bakshi, so John K got him to actually play the character for Adult Party Cartoon. The episode was mostly very gross, but it did give us a glorious scene where Ren dances to Stimpy’s panpipe playing.

This is the only Ralph Bakshi video I will leave a like for. Because despite my hatred of Ralph Bakshi, not only do I actually like his Mighty Mouse show, I outright LOVE Mighty Mouse the New Adventures! This is the only Ralph Bakshi animation project I actually enjoy, and while I was watching his terrible movies, I would always have to watch four episodes of this show to make myself feel better. Now, the main reason why I love Mighty Mouse is because where Wizards and the Lord of the Rings tried to be children's movies, Mighty Mouse succeeded! I think the biggest help for that was Scrappy. Scrappy is my favorite character in this entire show, because he is clearly made for children to identify with him. I may be troubled by Scrappy having an adult female's voice (especially knowing that adult female's terrible fate), that does not stop me from enjoying his childlike innocence and wanting to see him with a happy ending. But while my favorite part of this show is that it was clearly made for kids, that happens to be what gives me an appreciation for how the show jump-started the careers of such famous animators as John Krickfalusi, Bruce Timm, Andrew Stanton, Tom Minton, Mitch Schauer and Vicky Jenson. I guess that makes this show Dexter's Laboratory before Dexter's Laboratory, if you know what I mean. So needless to say, after watching five of Ralph Bakshi's adult monstrosities, it was Mighty Mouse that got me back to a happy mood, and even made me find some actual appreciation for Ralph Bakshi. He may have created too many adult movies for me to like him, but with Mighty Mouse, he makes me proud.

One of the episodes from this show was “Don’t Touch That Dial” which was the funniest episode to date. It spoofs the “Jetsons” and the “Flintstones” together called “The Jetstones”, and many of those parodies. I remember seeing this as a kid, and I used to have my recording on a cassette that had home recordings of just a cartoon from TV where “Don’t Touch That Dial” was heard. That brings back memories.

When people tell me that cartoons are for kids, I show them Ralph B's work or South Park. The last person that told me that cartoons are for kids only, I showed them South Park and they immediately are speechless.

Mighty Mouse really jumped the superman ship once Captain Marvel (Shazam) was created and became more popular than superman.

Wasn't the Mighty Mouse theme used for one of Andy Kaufman's bits? Like I'm fairly certain he's renowned enough for it to mean something in regards to the influence of Mighty Mouse

Not Applicable I saw a Golden 78 of the Mighty Mouse song at one time, but I might as well get my hands on getting a copy to play on my 1926 Victor Orthophonic VV 8-4 Victoria and I make fun of what Andy Kaufman did at that time.

I'm surprised to see you upload a video on Christmas but I'm glad to see you finally do a video on Mighty Mouse The New Adventures. Out of curiosity what rating would you give the series and who is your favorite mouse in animation aside from Mickey Mouse?

25 years ago Hollywood wanted to produce a Mighty Mouse movie for theaterical distibution, but it never got off the ground. Why? I I don't know, but that's what happened. But some MM fans or animation fans are not giving up hope. They still believe that a new generation of kids and adults who are young at heart can still enjoy the super rodent.

This is the honorable mention. He usually does this before moving on to the next lookback. The HM is mostly about an project that he wanted to give more time to talk about.

  • @BlazeHeartPanther

Really? Fritz the Cat, over something like Coonskin or Heavy Traffic which are more thought provoking? Well, you do you Mat. still like to know why you choose it over the others.
Also, hopfully for Animation Lookback: Richard Williams, you talk about more then just The Thief and the Cobbler, like what about his other films like Raggity Anne and Andy or A Christmas Carol?

I'm rather curious as to what you could possibly come up with for an Honourable Mention, since Richard Williams will only talk about one specific movie. I'm also getting the impression that it will be the second Lookback after Looney Tunes to not feature a Top 10 (or 5) Best Countdown.
