Richard allowed his perfectionism to get the better of him. He basically lost to himself multiple times because of that, even if the animation wasn’t stellar, the story could have make the movie become beloved.

How can you not. Richard and his crew worked their fingers to the bone creating this animated masterpiece and now thanks to meddling producers, financing difficulties, went too far in his ambitions and aggressive scheduling and deadlines, is masterpiece will never be fully completed. At least for now.

Some guy made The Recobbled Cut. They way Richard would’ve wanted it to be. Since then, it gathered a cult following and earn the title, “The greatest animated movie never made!”

@@majakmajak7596 Maybe someday by some miracle or so it will truly be fully completed exactly the way Richard had intended, but it certainly ain't gonna happen anytime soon I'm afraid.
Plus, I'm picturing an alternate universe where Richard did manage to complete his masterpiece with full creative freedom, going big on his ambitions (but not way too far on them), and not having a crap ton of production issues like he did in the real timeline.

      E. Bernhard Warg Indeed it was finished, but I don’t mean to say that that the same kind of production history as The Thief and the Cobbler, only that it too had a notably long production history. Especially how there were a lot of notable filmmakers and writers that were brought on during the development of the film, of which they dropped out due to creative differences including George Lucas, Osamu Dezaki, Hayao Miyazaki, and Isao Takahata. Both Dezaki and Miyazaki even created their own pilot films that can probably be found online or on the movie’s blu-ray as they present what the film could have looked liked within their own respective visions.

@@johnnyd3158 Also the 1978 movie Metamorphoses(later "Winds of Change") is worth doing a whole video on as it was the case of a Japanese animation company trying to dethrone Disney by copying Fantasia, only instead of having animated segments set to classical music, they had original rock songs by Mick Jagger and Joan Baez, but the premiere was just an epic failure that the wide release was cancelled and the music was stripped out for the re-release.

By the way people, this is the background music clever Animat chose for this episode, a rather Russian classical piece. Scheherazade, also commonly Sheherazade (Russian: Шехераза́да, tr. Shekherazáda, Op. 35, is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 and based on One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights).[1]
This orchestral work combines two features typical of Russian music and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East, which figured greatly in the history of Imperial Russia, as well as orientalism in general. The name "Scheherazade" refers to the main character Shahrazad of the One Thousand and One Nights. It is considered Rimsky-Korsakov's most popular work. And yes I copy and pasted these words from Wikipedia, just to save time.

Well of course I have seen multiple animation projects about Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol! It's a timeless classic, for Cuteness Spirit's Sake! However, it was quite difficult to choose a favorite interpretation of this classic tale. Richard Williams's story is apparently the first time this story was ever told with animation, and it won the Oscar for Best Animated Short. However, the story can get rather dark, and the art style is just not for me. Mickey's Christmas Carol is the cutest retelling of this story, and it even has Jiminy Cricket, which helps me remember Pinocchio. but the death of Tiny Tim is still hard to take. Bah Humduck, It sounds like A Looney Tunes Christmas is the only version where the star child does not die, but that just had to be ruined by an adult's voice! You know what? I'm just going to settle for Mickey's Christmas Carol as my favorite version. That's the project that has the most things in its favor.

You know, since my people live closer to Islamic peoples and therefore knew more about them (both good and bad) than most Westerners especially back in the 1960's and even today, yeah or da Williams could have got funding from Lyudmila Furtseva USSR's only-female Minister of Culture back then, or Premier Leonid Brezhnev, who cares if we're behind the Iron Curtain and happen to be Communist back in the day?
