It will always baffle me that people seek to put any gender in one particular box and try to define them in a certain way. My Mum is without a doubt the strongest person I know. She had a difficult start to live and yet despite nobody teaching her love and compassion she has so much. She was presented with the challenge of raising a child she knew would one day go blind and yet she raised me to be the man I am today. She stayed strong for me in my times of weakness. She almost died, had a cage around her leg for almost a year, endured intense pain and came out the other side and rebuilt herself. I loved this response Sam and you raised so many good points. Great job.
Ah, this is one of my favorite videos you have done, I think. Such an interesting way to respond, I was not expecting the line of questioning as a measure of confutation. Very well done!
Thank you! I just spoke from the heart mostly. I don’t think he meant to hurt women but maybe was just stuck in his ways. I am very interested in learning about his relationship with his mother now though. 😅
I haven’t read Schopenhauer. I was curious to hear the angle. My wife and mom and very much rubber bands in the sense that I can’t believe how much they can take on for their families where I clearly would have broke. Wonderful video. Can’t wait for his video response 😂😂😂
Beyond outstanding and full of perfect imagery (“the rubber band” and “music box” were gold). Schopenhauer failed to see how the Nietzschean Child is more feminine (final phrase of the metamorphosis), while the male tends to get stuck in camel or lion phrase (or rabble before either). Perhaps the male is more socially conditioned to expect the camel and lion phrases, but this proves to be a ditch if it is not moved beyond into the Child. Your response, Sam, is rare combination of excellent insight and eloquence, which is a very high achievement.
The only reason I thought of a rubber band was because there was one on my desk at the time haha. And yes! Though I only know the basics about the camel, Lion and child I think you make a very sound point here! Children are the necessary hope to keep turning the world and this, the woman understands. It is beautiful to see today, men and women working together as one, though there are still problems, great ideas have emerged to keep both together.
Yeah, that's totally what I was going to say 😼. Seriously though I'm so glad there are people smarter than me out there who can actually have these discussions. I thought the rubber band and music box were brilliant too.
I really appreciate this response. Schopenhauer was clearly a formidable intellect -- but his writings on this subject reveal profound shortsightedness -- as you say. Like others, I really like your rubber-band and water metaphors to describe women’s strength and adaptability. And I think it speaks perfectly to the essay’s central error. Indeed he ranks women against his yardstick of male maturity -- as though that were the gold standard for human development. But that’s absurd -- Like somebody claiming Mother Terresa was inferior because she couldn’t bench press as much as Schwarzenegger.. That Schopenhauer fails to recognize the strength and genius of women, is perhaps only a reflection of an underdeveloped feminine side -- maybe due to strained relationships as others have suggested.. Supposedly, his views changed by the end of his life, and certainly Nietzsche carried the torch further on this subject.. Anyway, I appreciate your insights!
It will appear to be shortsightedness to those who are naive, easily manipulated and don’t live in reality. The truth is a hard pill to swallow for many
Says it all really. Not to discount everything he said, but do we seriously think a sexually frustrated man with a bad relationship to his mother would express anything less than loathing for the opposite sex? It's like those feminists that say "all men are trash". These extreme statements are mostly born of personal experience rather than objective observation. But alas, that's only human...
Writing to a dead man and waiting for a response is not exactly the pinnacle of rationality.
LMAO 🤣🤣 tell me about it
Lmao
His words are rightfully true, now there might be few exceptions but overall it is factually correct.
Schopenhauer was based asf! Man was a g, straight spittin fax cuh!

Thank you for such a beautiful comment and for sharing your story Mason! Your kindness is always appreciated. Keep being amazing! 😊😊
Women endorse gender norms.

He was right so as Aristotle Plato Marcus Aurelius etc.

I’m so glad you liked this! You can bet in the afterlife that Schopenhauer’s going to be annoyed with me. 😂

Goodness...I don't know what to say. Think I'll go bury my head in the sand.😫 A video about the pros of abstinence? I DON'T KNOW!😵😵😵
Schopenhauer is a good man and very intelligent man. Wish he was my dad

Schopenhauer was unmarried and childless.
he was a man
